Objective To investigate the effects of clinical nursing pathway (CNP) on patients with deep vein catheterization after cardiothoracic operation. Methods A total of 950 patients with deep vein catheterization post cardiothoracic operation from January 2013 to December 2014 in Shandong Heze Municipal Hospital were evenly divided into experimental group and control group by admission time. Under the same basis of surgical therapy, the clinical nursing pathway and normal nursing were respectively adopted in experimental and control group. Postoperative recovery, complications and satisfaction of patients were compared between two groups. Results The total effective rate was 90.95% in experimental group and 77.26% in control group (P<0.05). Incidences of complications were 9.68% in experimental group and 28.00% in control group (P<0.05). Satisfaction of patients was 92.42% in experimental group and 78.32% in control group (P<0.05). Conclusions Adoption of CNP for post cardiothoracic operation patients improves effectiveness of surgery. In addition, CNP can reduce recovery time and complications. CNP, which increases satisfaction of patients and their relatives, is worth popularization. Key words: Cardiothoracic surgery; Perioperative nursing; Deep vein catheterization; Clinical nursing pathway
