Fishery Resources, Ecological Environment Carrying Capacity Evaluation and Coupling Coordination Analysis: The Case of the Dachen Islands, East China Sea

Impacts of human activity on the sustainable development of marine fisheries have been greatly concerned, and the carrying capacity with theoretic and practical meanings has become a focused area over the past two decades. More importantly, there are few studies on the fishery resources and environment compound system. In this study, based on the investigation data in Dachen Islands during 2019–2021, we proposed the evaluation method of fishery resources and ecological environment carrying capacity (FRCC & MEECC) and analyzed the coupling coordination degree between the fishery resources and environment. The results showed that (1) the MEECC of Dachen Islands was in the critical overload state and fluctuated significantly among seasons and the winter voyage of 2021 was the worst. (2) The nekton index of Dachen Islands was basically stable, the fish eggs and juvenile index dropped markedly, and the FRCC was also critically overloaded. (3) The fishery resources and marine environment were moderately balanced. Further, the development was relatively synchronized in autumn of 2019 and 2020, while the fishery resources in spring of 2021 lagged behind the marine environment.

Research on water resources carrying capacity evaluation based on innovative RCC method

Scientific assessment of water resources carrying capacity (WRCC) is the basis for implementing water resources protection measures. To make the evaluation more objective and reasonable, this study created a WRCC evaluation method based on R-clustering-variance coefficient method coupled with cloud model (RCC) for the state study of WRCC in a specific region. The study collected and summarized the available indicators through the review of existing studies to build a database of extensively selected indicators, and also combined with the characteristics of the study area to construct the initial indicators database. Then the indicators were categorized into 12 factor layers under the concept of water resources carrying subjects and objects, and the R clustering-variance coefficient method was introduced to screen the indicators to construct a concise and effective evaluation index system. Finally, combined with the cloud model to identify the comprehensive state of WRCC, the quantitative expression of WRCC was realized. Taking Henan Province of China as the research area, a total of 81 available indicators were collected, and an evaluation index system composed of 30 indicators was constructed after screening. During the evaluation years of 2005–2017, the WRCC level in Henan Province gradually raised from level IV (overload) to level II (weakly bearable), and the results of the study were stable and consistent with the changing trend of existing studies. The study can provide new ideas for the evaluation indicators selection and quantitative evaluation of water resources carrying capacity or other carrying capacity for a specific county, city, or provincial study area.

Evaluation of resource and environmental carrying capacity in rare earth mining areas in China

Rare earth elements are a nonrenewable and important strategic resource, and China is rich in these elements. However, the substantial exploitation of these resources has caused the migration, diffusion, transformation and accumulation of pollution sources, which in turn has a profound impact on the ecological environment of mining areas. Accurate evaluations of resource and environmental carrying capacity (RECC) are important for the green development of mining areas. In this paper, the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method based on the combination of the AHP (Analytic Hierarchy Process) and entropy methods is used to study the RECC of mine areas in terms of both support capacity and pressure. The Bayan Obo mine in Inner Mongolia, the Longnan mine in Jiangxi, the Weishan mine in Shandong, the Mianning mine in Sichuan, the Pingyuan mine in Guangdong, and the Chongzuo mine in Guangxi, which are typical representative mines, were selected for a horizontal comparison. The results show that, with the exception of the Bayan Obo mine, the support index was greater than the pressure index in terms of mining and human activities in all mining areas. The RECC index ranked order for the mining areas was Bayan Obo > Longnan > Mianning > Pingyuan > Weishan > Chongzuo. In addition, an obstacle degree model was used to identify and extract the main factors affecting the ecological quality of the mine sites. The ratio of investment in environmental pollution control to GDP was the most important factor, of all factors, which limited the improvement in the mine support index. Through the above research, we identified the main factors affecting the ecological carrying capacity of each mining area, providing a scientific basis for formulating corresponding environmental regulations and reducing the environmental pollution caused by rare earth mining.

Comprehensive evaluation on water resources carrying capacity based on improved AGA-AHP method

The combined weight method (CWM) for comprehensive water resources carrying capacity evaluation is proposed in this paper to evaluate the regional water resources carrying capacity. Firstly, the accelerating genetic algorithm based on analytic hierarchy process (AGA-AHP) method is improved to optimize the expert evaluation matrix and determine the subjective weight, in which entropy weight method is used to determine objective weight, and the combined weight formula is put forward to get the combined weight of evaluation index. Secondly, the certainty degree is calculated by using the multi-dimensional normal cloud model. The obstacle factors of evaluation index are diagnosed. Finally, taking Henan Province as an example, the regional water resources carrying capacity is evaluated by using CWM method. The comparison between single cloud model, AHP-TOPSIS and CWM is made. It is proved that CWM method takes the fuzziness and randomness into account in the evaluation process, and the efficient and intuitive results can be obtained through evaluation. The obstacle degree and the time changing pattern of the index can be clearly diagnosed, which can provide a new idea for the evaluation method of water resources carrying capacity.

Quantitative Evaluation and Diagnosis of Water Resources Carrying Capacity (WRCC) Based on Dynamic Difference Degree Coefficient in the Yellow River Irrigation District

In order to effectively deal with the uncertainty between evaluation samples and evaluation criteria, and quantitatively identify the water resources carrying capacity (WRCC) and its obstacle factors in the Yellow River irrigation district, a calculation method of dynamic difference degree coefficient varying with evaluation sample was proposed, and then an evaluation and diagnosis model of WRCC was established. The results applied to the Dagong irrigation district showed that the overall WRCC of five counties in the irrigation district were improved from 2010 to 2017, especially since 2013. The improvement magnitudes of Changyuan County, Fengqiu County, and Hua County were significantly higher than those of Xun County and Neihuang County. In 2017, Fengqiu County, Changyuan County, Hua County, Xun County, and Neihuang County were in water resources critical overloaded status, and the connection number values were 0.231, 0.163, 0.120, −0.293, and −0.331, respectively, which is consistent with the fact that their distances become farther from the main stream of the Yellow River. In addition, the utilization ratio of water resources, available water resources amount per capita, GDP per capita, and water deficient ratio in each county belonged to the middle or strong obstacle index over a long period of time. They were the crucial obstacle factors of WRCC in the Dagong irrigation district, as well as the core and difficult points of water resources management. In some counties, the effective irrigation area ratio, effective utilization coefficient of irrigation water, and water consumption ratio of the ecological environment gradually developed from strong obstacle to weak or strong promotion index. These were important reasons for the improvement of their carrying situation, reflecting their control of agricultural and ecological water consumption. In short, the results of the case study suggest that the model established in this study is conducive to the identification of water resources’ carrying status and its key obstacle factors in the Yellow River irrigation district, and can be applied to the evaluation and regulation of resources and environment carrying capacity.

Evaluation of Rural Tourism Carrying Capacity Based on Ecological Footprint Model

The evaluation of the environmental carrying capacity of tourism resources has important guiding significance for the sustainable development of tourism. This study uses the ecological footprint index to construct the evaluation model of rural tourism environmental carrying capacity and quantitatively analyzes the impact of rural tourism ecological footprint on the environment, ecological pressure, and the maximum carrying capacity of tourists in Nanyang City (China) from 2011 to 2020, so as to provide a reference basis for local rural tourism planning and ecological environment management. The empirical analysis results show that (1) during the decade 2011–2020, the overall ecological footprint increased by 31.47%; however, the per capita ecological footprint showed a downward trend year by year; (2) in the ten years from 2011 to 2020, although the environmental carrying capacity was in surplus, it showed a downward trend year by year, and the ecological pressure index initially appeared; (3) taking the number of tourists in 2020 as the reference value, the prediction of the ecological pressure of rural tourism environment and the carrying capacity of tourists shows that although the ecological pressure is in a relatively safe state, it will show an unsafe state with the increase of the number of tourists. Based on the above results, it is suggested that local governments and tourism planning and management departments should pay full attention to the adverse impact of tourism development on the environment, strengthen the construction of green transportation, balance the development of tourism resources, scientifically control the number of tourists, improve tourists’ awareness of environmental protection, protect the ecological environment of Nanyang City, and realize the sustainable development of rural tourism.

Rough Set Construction and Entropy Weight Evaluation of Urban Higher Education Resource Carrying Capacity Based on Big Data

With the popularization of higher education, the scale of urban higher education continues to expand, and the contradiction between the supply and demand of educational resources becomes increasingly prominent, which restricts the steady development of urban higher education. Based on the rough set theory, this paper constructs a rough set of big data of urban higher education resource carrying capacity from the three levels of higher education core resources, urban economic resources and urban basic resources, and evaluates the entropy weight of the city where the university is located. According to the theoretical knowledge of higher education resource carrying capacity, the system deconstructs and expounds the balance mechanism of higher education resource carrying capacity, which provides solid theoretical support for the development of the paper. The research shows that the agglomeration development of higher education resources can improve the carrying capacity of urban higher education resources. The second section performed well on the whole, and the index distribution was more uniform. The third interval index structure distribution is complex and uneven, and the overall performance is general. The fourth section belongs to the poor section of educational carrying capacity with a low overall index. It can be seen that the carrying capacity of higher education resources varies significantly, which provides a scientific basis for improving the carrying capacity of higher education resources and theoretical and policy basis for realizing rational allocation and sustainable carrying capacity of higher education resources.

Water Carrying Capacity Evaluation Method Based on Cloud Model Theory and an Evidential Reasoning Approach

The scientific and reasonable evaluation of the carrying capacity of water resources is of guiding significance for solving the issues of water resource shortages and pollution control. It is also an important method for realizing the sustainable development of water resources. Aiming at an evaluation of the carrying capacity of water resources, an evaluation model based on the cloud model theory and evidential reasoning approach is studied. First, based on the existing indicators, a water resources evaluation index system based on the pressure-state-response (PSR) model is constructed, and a classification method of carrying capacity grade is designed. The cloud model theory is used to realize the transformation between the measured value of indicators and the degree of correlation. Second, to obtain the weight of the evaluation index, the weight method of the index weights model based on the entropy weight method and evidential reasoning approach is proposed. Then, the reliability distribution function of the evaluation index and the graded probability distribution of the carrying capacity of water resources are obtained by an evidential reasoning approach. Finally, the evaluation method of the carrying capacity of water resources is constructed, and specific steps are provided. The proposed method is applied to the evaluation of water resources carrying capacity for Hunan Province, which verifies the feasibility and effectiveness of the method proposed in the present study. This paper applies this method of the evaluation of the water resources carrying capacity of Hunan Province from 2010 to 2019. It is concluded that the water resources carrying capacity of Hunan Province belongs to III~V, which is between the critical state and the strong carrying capacity state. The carrying capacity of the province’s water resources is basically on the rise. This shows that the carrying capacity of water resources in Hunan Province is in good condition, and corresponding protective measures should be taken to continue the current state.

Elaboration of a Promising Design of the HTS Conductor for the Central Solenoid of a Compact Thermonuclear Reactor TRT

The results of the preliminary development of the HTS conductor based on the VS-type design and parallel stacks for the central solenoid of the compact thermonuclear reactor TRT are presented. One of the main problems that need to be solved for the successful implementation of such projects is the creation of high-current high-temperature superconducting (HTS) conductors for Toroidal Field coils (TF) and Central Solenoid (CS) sections. The conductor must have a high engineering current density of at least 90 A/mm2. The induction of the magnetic field in the central solenoid reaches 14 T, which leads to the occurrence of large mechanical stresses due to the influence of Lorentz forces. Like many large magnets, CS has a lot of stored energy. For the safe withdrawal of stored energy from the magnet, it requires the inclusion of elements in the conductor that provide an acceptable level of electrical voltage and heating of the conductor insulation. Thus, a sufficient amount of stabilizing and reinforcing materials should be placed in the conductor. In addition, the “cable-in-conduit” type of conductor must have channels for pumping the refrigerant. Two fundamentally different versions of the conductor based on radially arranged REBCO tapes and on the basis of pre-assembled tape packages are considered. Based on the analysis of the magnetic field distribution in the conductor by finite element method, the design characteristics of the proposed conductors under various operating modes of the electromagnetic system (EMS) of the tokamak TRT was evaluated. The results of the evaluation of the current carrying capacity of the conductor and the estimation of energy losses in a changing magnetic field in comparison with known methods are also presented.

Towards Sustainable Fisheries Through Marine Ecological Carrying Capacity Index

Overexploitation and unsustainable fisheries activities will have an impact on environmental quality degradation. In the 4.0 era, technology can assist in monitoring and managing sustainable fisheries resources. Research on sustainable fisheries management activities guided by the marine ecological carrying capacity (MECC) evaluation index has been carried out. The purpose of this study was to determine changes in fishery activity to MECC as an evaluation material for sustainable development in the fisheries sector in the form of a website. This can provide convenience and effectiveness and can be used as a basis by stakeholders in monitoring and making policies in the sustainable development of the fisheries sector. MECC is composed of two components, namely carrying object (OI) and carrier resilience (RI). OI is obtained from changes in the value of changes in human activity (RI) and socio-economic development (SI). Fishery activities are a component of RI in the Nunukan Regency, Indonesia. The HI value decreased during 2015 - 2019 and affected the decline in the MECC index as a whole. This decrease was caused by the increase in fish catches, the number of fishing households, and boat activity in the waters of the Nunukan Regency. Based on the evaluation of the decline in the value of HI, it can be used as an evaluation material in developing integrated and sustainable development in the fisheries sector by mitigating bycatch by regulating fishing gear and methodologies, as well as establishing protected area management and fishing. To make this happen, it is necessary to build partnerships between public authorities, business, civil society, academia, and the financial sector within the framework of the Penta-helix model.

Ecological balance model of effective utilization of agricultural water resources based on fractional differential equations

Abstract Water is a key factor that controls the evolution of the ecosystem and restricts social and economic development. The rational allocation of water resources is the basis for the basin's sustainable use of water resources. The article uses fractional differential equations to discuss the increasingly prominent contradictions between supply and demand of agricultural water resources, serious pollution and overexploitation, the decline in groundwater level and water quality, low agricultural water efficiency, and serious waste from the perspective of sustainable development. Second, the article classifies the index system of the water resources carrying capacity evaluation model. Finally, model the resource balance of water supply and water demand in the irrigation area. The study found that the water quantity analysis and determination of the irrigation area will have important guiding significance for implementing the irrigation area's continued construction and water-saving transformation. The allocation and utilization of water resources in farmland irrigation areas will tend to be rationalized. This will greatly improve the water-saving efficiency of irrigation districts.

Analysis and Prediction of Land Resources’ Carrying Capacity in 31 Provinces of China from 2008 to 2016

The rapid development of urbanization, population growth, and unreasonable use of land resources have made the contradiction between human beings and land increasingly prominent, and the carrying capacity of land resources has become an important factor affecting the sustainable development of a city or even a country. Based on the carrying capacity of agricultural land, construction land, and ecological land in 31 provinces of China, this paper analyzed the spatiotemporal characteristics of the carrying capacity of land resources in 31 provinces of China from 2008 to 2016 by using single-factor carrying capacity evaluation and comprehensive carrying capacity evaluation methods. The evaluation results were divided into six levels (No pressure, Lower pressure, Low pressure, Medium pressure, High pressure, Higher pressure), and the ArcGIS10.2 software was used for visualization, and the carrying capacity prediction model was constructed to predict the development trend of the comprehensive carrying capacity of land resources in 2020 and 2025. The results showed that China’s land carrying capacity is extremely unbalanced. Whether from the evaluation results of single-factor carrying capacity or comprehensive carrying capacity, we showed the characteristics of high pressure in the east and low pressure in the west, and that the regional land resources have a deteriorating trend. Through the prediction of the future land resource carrying capacity index, it was found that the comprehensive carrying capacity index of land resources in 31 provinces of China will still show an upward trend in the future.

Research on the Influencing Factors of Urban Ecological Carrying Capacity Based on a Multiscale Geographic Weighted Regression Model: Evidence from China

Based on the comprehensive evaluation method, a comprehensive urban ecological carrying capacity (UECC) evaluation system is established. It includes ecological support, ecological resilience, and ecological pressure. Multiscale geographically weighted regression (MGWR) was used to conduct a thorough examination of the spatial and temporal patterns, and the factors that influenced the UECC of 286 prefecture-level cities in China from 2010 to 2019. The results show that (1) China’s UECC index ranges from 0.0233 to 0.2811 in 2019, which is still at a low level. (2) The spatial distribution is relatively stable: high-value agglomerations of UECC are distributed primarily in the Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta, while low-value agglomerations are primarily distributed in the regions in the Central Plains. (3) All influencing factors have a positive effect on the improvement of UECC and are heterogeneous in spatial distribution. Lastly, this paper gives corresponding suggestions, so that governments can formulate differentiated policies and effectively improve UECC.

Sustainable development in marine economy: Assessing carrying capacity of Shandong province in China

The sustainable development of the marine economy has drawn increasing attention from all the countries of the world. This paper proposes a marine ecological carrying capacity framework that uses the AHP-entropy based TOPSIS method to carry out a multi-angle evaluation of marine ecological carrying capacity. Using the data from Shandong province in China between 2008 and 2017, the dynamic analysis is undertaken. The results showed that the carrying capacity in Shandong province presented a varying trend between 2008 and 2017. Specifically, it declined from 2008 to 2012, with the index value falling from 0.52 to 0.34. From 2013, the carrying capacity gradually increased; nonetheless, the overall value was still at a low level before 2015. The marine ecological carrying capacity increased rapidly in the last two years and reached its optimum (0.53) in 2017. Further investigation found that population growth, increased number of tourists, and industrial pollution were the leading causes of declining carrying capacity. These findings provide valuable insights into the study of carrying capacity and policy implications for achieving sustainable development in the marine sector.

Resources and Environment Carrying Capacity, Social Development and Their Decoupling Relationship: A Case Study of Hubei Province, China.

With the rapid urbanization in recent decades, resource shortage and environmental damage have hindered the process of urban sustainable development (SD). As a yardstick of sustainable development, the evaluation of resources and environment carrying capacity (RECC) and its decoupling relationship with social comprehensive development index (SCDI) are of great significance. In this paper, RECC and SCDI are taken as research objects to establish resource and environment system evaluation index system and social comprehensive development level evaluation index system, respectively. Then, the RECC and SCDI of 17 cities in Hubei province during 2009–2018 are calculated by the projection pursuit model based on genetic algorithm, and their spatial-temporal variance characteristics are analyzed. On this basis, the RECC-SCDI Tapio decoupling model is constructed to explore the decoupling relationship between RECC and SCDI. The result shows that: (1) The RECC of Hubei shows a V-shaped development trend during 2009–2018. The SCDI of Hubei rose steadily during 2009–2018. (2) RECC in western and eastern Hubei Province is higher than that in central Hubei Province. SCDI in eastern and central Hubei Province is higher than that in the west. (3) 11 of the 17 cities in Hubei Province have got rid of excessive dependence on resources environment for social development. The study could contribute to scientific and effective policies be formulated by government to promote urban sustainable development.

Matrix game-based approach for MADM with probabilistic triangular intuitionistic hesitant fuzzy information and its application

This paper develops a zero-sum matrix game-based methodology for multi-attribute decision making (MADM) problems, where the attribute information is described by the probabilistic triangular intuitionistic hesitant fuzzy set (PTIHFS), and their weights are unknown. Firstly, we propose a new comprehensive rank method to measure PTIHFSs based on the concepts of the centroid value and the ambiguity value. Then, in order to obtain the rational attribute weights strategies (solutions) with DM's preferences/parameters, the transformed parameterized PTIHFS bilinear programming models are proposed for the zero-sum matrix. Next, the alternatives are sorted by the aggregation scores of each alternative with different parameters. Finally, we apply the zero-sum matrix game-based models and approach in a carrying capacity evaluation, the feasibility and superiority are demonstrated by comparing them with other methods. The proposed simple measure method of PTIHFSs, and it is used for interactive decision-making, which can much significantly promote the application of MADM.

Integrated Evaluations of Resource and Environment Carrying Capacity of the Huaihe River Ecological and Economic Belt in China

The evaluations of resource and environment carrying capacity and territorial development suitability, also referred to as “double evaluations”, have been taken by China as an important direction in territorial space planning. Based on the evaluation of resource and environment carrying capacity, the double evaluations can contribute to protecting ecological safety and territorial safety and promoting regional sustainable development. The focus of this study was to integratedly evaluate the resource and environment carrying capacity of the Huaihe River Ecological and Economic Belt. First, the overall weights of the factors at the dimension level and the index level in the established integration evaluation system were calculated with the fuzzy analytical hierarchy process (FAHP) method; and then, using the linear weighted function, the overall resource and environment carrying capacities of 25 cities in the belt were calculated. On that basis, the resource and environment carrying capacity evaluation model was established. Through model analysis, this study comprehensively investigated the resource and environment carrying capacity of the Huaihe River Eco-economic Belt and provided a foundation for the future territorial space planning and layout of the Huaihe River Eco-economic Belt.

Comprehensive Evaluation of Water Carrying Capacity in Hebei Province, China on Principal Component Analysis

Water is an important basic resource for social and economic development and also a necessity for the life and produce of people. The unbalanced development of water resources in Hebei Province of China and the obvious contradiction between supply and demand, affected by geography and natural environment change, has seriously influenced the Hebei village renewal process. This paper presents a comprehensive evaluation method of water carrying capacity—principal component analysis (PCA)—and constructs the evaluation index system of water carrying capacity in Hebei Province from water resources, water management, industrial development, agricultural development, social development, environmental protection, and other aspects. Based on the economic and water statistical data of Hebei province from 2009 to 2018, this paper adopts principal component analysis as an evaluation method to comprehensively evaluate the carrying capacity of water resources in Hebei Province across time and space. The results show that principal component analysis is an effective method for the comprehensive evaluation of water carrying capacity, which can reflect the local water carrying capacity objectively and comprehensively.

Uncertain Analysis of Fuzzy Evaluation Model for Water Resources Carrying Capacity: A Case Study in Zanhuang County, North China Plain

The scientific and accurate evaluation of water resources carrying capacity has good social, environmental and resource benefits. Reasonable selection of evaluation parameters is the key step to realize efficient and sustainable development of water resources. Taking Zanhuang County in the North China Plain as the research area, this study selected fuzzy comprehensive evaluation models with different weights in the established evaluation index framework to explore the sources of uncertainty affecting the evaluation results of water resources carrying capacity. By using the sensitivity analysis method of index weight, the index with the biggest influence factor on the evaluation result is selected to reduce the uncertainty problems such as index redundancy and small correlation degree. The results show that the correlation and reliable of comprehensive evaluation value obtained by different weight methods is different. The evaluation result obtained by using the analytic hierarchy process is more relevant than the entropy weight method, and it is more consistent with the actual load-bearing situation. The study of sensitivity index shows that water area index is the biggest factor affecting the change of evaluation results, and water resources subsystem and socio-economic subsystem play a dominant role in the whole evaluation framework. The results show that strengthening the data quality control of index assignment and weight method is helpful to reduce the error of water resources carrying capacity evaluation. It can also provide scientific basis for the improvement of fuzzy evaluation model.
