TOWARDS THE VARIANTS OF THE ARMENIAN NAMES OF THE BALTIC LANGUAGES The word լեթթերեն (German: Lettisch, French: letton) is found in the Armenian linguistic literature in the first half of the 20th century, in particular in the etymological dictionary and in other works of R. Acharyan. It is an archaism, recorded only in terminological dictionaries. The variant լատիշերեն "Latvian", the lexical base of which is directly related to the Latvian self-name latvieš, was formed in Soviet times under the influence of the Russian language. It is found in university and school textbooks, and is registered in explanatory dictionaries. It has a high frequency of use compared to other variants. The lexical basis of the լատվերեն "Latvian"is the name of the country - Լատվիա (Latvia), from which the particle -իա dropped out. It is used in scientific literature, the second variant most frequently used after լատիշերեն "Latvian". The word-formation base of the word լատվիերեն "Latvian" is the name of the Latvian people - լատվիացի, the suffix of which has dropped out. It is registered in academic dictionaries (explanatory and Armenian-Russian) and in various translation dictionaries of the Eastern Armenian and the Western Armenian languages. In this formation, the connection with the name of the country and the ethnonym is obvious. In the first half of the 20th century, R. Acharyan used the word լիթվաներեն (English: Lithuanian language), which is a spelling variant of the currently used լիտվաներեն "Lithuanian" (French: Lituanien), but the lexical base of լիտվան is already outdated, giving way to լիտվացի "Lithuanian person". Variant լիտվերեն was formed from the word լիտվացի "Lithuanian person". Since the second half of the 20th century, it is often used in linguistic literature, and in translation dictionaries it appears as the only name for the Lithuanian language. The variant լիտավերեն (German: Litauisch) is based on the toponym Litava. It is found only in the "Linguistic Dictionary", and լիտովցերեն (< լիտովցի "Lithuanian person") is not a recommended variant, although other variants refer to it in the academic explanatory dictionary. Variant լիտովերեն is formed on the lexical basis լիտով (cf. with the Russian литовский). These variants are not used currently. Taking into account the word-formation tradition, frequency of use in the present period, dictionary records and other factors, with the aim of maintaining consistency in the field of names of languages, it is proposed to adopt a single name for each Baltic language: լատվերեն "Latvian" and լիտվերեն "Lithuanian".

ДИСКУРС ГІБРИДНОЇ ВІЙНИ: ВІД ІСТОРІЇ ДО СЬОГОДЕННЯ

The article comprehensively explores the historical aspect of the phenomenon of “hybrid war”: from its first manifestations in ancient times to the present – the period of formation of Ukrainian statehood. The works are analyzed and the main views of domestic, Russian and American scientists on the essence and the concep of “Hybrid war” are highlighted. It was determined that the phenomenon of hybrid warfare was also traced in the history of domestic state formation at the beginning of the last century. To seize power in Ukraine, the Russian Bolsheviks used many tricks and political maneuvers that had a hybrid component. In particular, one of such methods was the formation of quasi-state formations, such as: Donetsk-Kryvyi Rih Soviet Republic (1918) and others. In addition, the methods used by the Bolsheviks to spread misinformation were analyzed, such as the distribution of free leaflets at the front, which carried a propaganda content. Special attention is paid to the hybrid aggression of the Russian Federation in the XXI century, in particular against Ukraine. The main views of Russian researchers on hybrid warfare are highlighted. They emphasize that the main components of a hybrid war are information warfare, as well as covert involvement of outside armed groups and organizations to solve the problems of interstate confrontation. Also, various definitions of “hybrid war” in terminological dictionaries were analyzed, such as: Dictionary of the Ukrainian language, Cambridge Dictionary, Collins Dictionary. Thanks to a comprehensive study of views on the concept of “hybrid war”, its basic definition was formed, which comprehensively characterizes both historical and contemporary aspects of this phenomenon.

Терминография языка саха: формирование и становление

The paper, following the modern theory of terminography, considers the formation and composition of the terminology of the Sakha language selection and quality of vocabulary dictionaries, and their composition (inventory and interpretation) parameters. Yakut terminography has dictionaries for all branches of knowledge: nine - in natural sciences, six - in social (humanitarian) sciences, one - in technical sciences, with there being also four macro-compositional (multi-field) dictionaries. The authors provide a classification analysis of terminological dictionaries for typologies and compositional parameters. According to compositional parameters, there are multi-field and single-field dictionaries in Sakha terminology. An inventory of terms is a collection and description of all words-terms belonging to the selected field of knowledge or its thematic fragment. Inventory dictionaries are Russian-Sakha, once again confirming the leading role of the Russian terminological school. New concepts with their designations come to us through the Russian language. The defining type includes dictionaries with the head vocabulary provided with definitions (brief interpretations). The definition should be accurate, concise, but sufficient and should not contain redundant information. The definition is an excellent technique for highlighting the terminological meaning of a polysemantic word and a word with an undifferentiated meaning. With terminological dictionaries intersecting in some way, the faceted principle of dividing them was subsequently adopted. Faceted typology is convenient for sorting varieties of dictionaries by their parallel bases. Sakha terminography, comprising multi-field and mixed dictionaries, needs a faceted typology. Faceted typology involves the identification of specific lexicographic parameters serving as the basis for the classification of dictionaries.

НОВЕЙШИЕ ЗАИМСТВОВАНИЯ В РУССКОЙ СТРОИТЕЛЬНОЙ ТЕРМИНОЛОГИИ XXI в.

The article deals with the latest foreign naming units for construction technologies within the construction terminology in modern Russian. The article aims to identify and analyze the latest foreign naming units in Russian construction terminology and to create a typology of these lexical units. The research objectives involve selecting the material, determining the sources and period of the borrowings, the semantics of the lexical units, and creating the typology of the borrowings. The material for the research is the latest foreign-language vocabulary of the construction sphere, borrowed into Russian from the 1990s till the present. The sources for the analysis are dictionaries of construction terminology, encyclopedias, textbooks, commercial catalogues, internet resources data both in Russian and foreign languages, as well as professional standards (GOSTs), scientific papers, etc. The linguistic comparative and contrastive methods serve as the methodological basis of the article. More than 210 naming units functioning in the scientific and internet discourse were selected for the analysis. The authors identified the following foreign lexical units denoting construction technologies that are not fixed either in the terminological dictionaries for construction or the Russian National Corpus: lexical, morphemic, syntactic, semantic (calques and semi-calques), and combined borrowings. The comparative analysis of the lexical units in Russian and in the source language is made, the definitional analysis of lexical units is presented, and the examples of functioning of these naming units in professional internet discourse are provided. The analysis has shown that more than 76% of the total number of the analyzed naming units were borrowed from English. Moreover, lexical borrowings are widely represented in the typology of the borrowings, among which the most numerous ones are transliterated and mixed lexical borrowings; structural derivational and syntactic calques, and semi-calques. Cases of word-forming affixes borrowing, i.e. morphemic borrowing, are found. Examples of foreign language inclusions denoting modern construction technologies as well as occasional examples of combined borrowing are also found. A case of lexical lacunarity among the newest lexical units of construction vocabulary is observed. The analysis data indicate an intensive penetration of foreign-language lexical units into the terminology of the sublanguage of construction. Although many of the analyzed names (about 62 %) are not yet fixed in terminological dictionaries, they widely occur in professional discourse and are fixed in standards and commercial catalogues.

This article elucidates a problem of restoring ideologically removed terminological units to modern technical terminology. �Russian-Ukrainian dictionary of scientific terminology. Mathematics. Physics. Earth and Space Sciences�, published in Kyiv in 1998, �Defining Russian-Ukrainian-English Dictionary of Energy� edited by A. Rudnik, published in Kharkiv in 1999 and �Russian-Ukrainian Dictionary of Engineering Technologies� from the terminographic series Word World, published in Lviv in 2013 were analyzed. �Repressed� terms have been found in all analyzed lexicographic works, prepared and published by various Ukrainian schools. Having analyzed the term material of these terminological works, it has been noted that all the authors of mentioned dictionaries reasonably continue to revive the authentic Ukrainian terms. The purpose of the article is to identify tendencies of standardization of Ukrainian technical terminology, common for domestic terminological schools, on the basis of the analysis of �repressed� terms recorded in modern lexicographical works. In the dictionary article they clearly put terms on the first place, that are recommended by the permanent scientific terminological seminar of the Technical Committee for Standardization of Scientific and Technical Terminology of Derzhspozhyvstandart and the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, as well as the requirements of the State Standard. It was discovered that lexicographers of Lviv Polytechnic consistently continue the traditions of Ukrainian terminologists of the 1920s, who were employees of the Institute of Scientific Language of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, and use methods of describing terminological material typical for the �golden decade� Ukrainian terminology. Descriptive-analytical and comparative methods are applied in the study, according to which the observation of the analyzed lexicographic material is generalized, in particular, the terms that were removed from the Ukrainian technical terminology in the 30s of the twentieth century by terminological bulletins are described. The structural method contributes to the description of word-forming affixes of the studied terms. Analytical and synthetic elaboration of terminographic sources is used to shed light on the historiography of this issue. Based on the analytical-synthetic elaboration of lexicographic works of three domestic terminological schools, the article reveals the following common tendencies of standardization of Ukrainian technical terminology: return to the terminology of unfairly forgotten or forcibly removed nominations; creation of new terms according to Ukrainian word-forming models, restoration of etymological writing and sounding of technical terms; arranging scientific and technical dictionaries by teams of authors � specialists in various technical fields and terminographs; the common position of domestic terminological schools is to focus on the native language soil, taking into account the achievements of previous generations.

This year, the dental community had a great honor to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the outstanding personality of Ukrainian dentistry — doctor, scientist, organizer of the medical industry, teacher Valentin Fedorovich Makeev. Valentin Fedorovich – representative of the first graduation of the Faculty of Dentistry of the Lviv State Medical Institute in 1963. During his many years of scientific activity, Professor V.F. Professor V. F. Makeev is the author of over 400 scientific and scientific-methodical works, incl. 16 monographs, 25 copyright certificates and 23 patents of Ukraine, 3 methodological recommendations and 15 innovations were published in the sectoral register of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine for practical health care, as well as a dictionary of dental terminology. Professor VF Makeev trained 2 doctors of medical sciences, 35 candidates of medical sciences, 35 masters of medicine in the specialty “orthopedic dentistry”.

THE MAIN STANDARDIZATION PROBLEMS OF UKRAINIAN TERMINOLOGY

The main article investigate the standartisation problems of modern Ukrainian terminology. The industry terms are evolving and new units to denote special concepts are introducing. While currently working with professional terminology, the issue of terminological dictionaries is motivated by lack of funding and fragmentary interest in research of this type. Therefore, today Ukraine needs to emphasize the relevance of studying industry terminological terms. The role of the English language as the main one for borrowing the term units of a number of branches of modern science and technology is determined. It is noted that today the process of attracting foreign-language special units is sometimes unmanageable, and this fact raises some concerns among experts. After all, in the times of the formation of a multicultural space and the dominance of the English language as the main one in the scientific sphere, the preservation of linguistic identity becomes time. A certain balance must be maintained for each terminological system. The example of terminological systems of economics and radiology issues that need to be addressed as a matter of priority have been identified; a sign of modern Ukrainian terminology is the observance of classical principles of term formation. When creating special units, the suffixal method of word formation is used mainly with a combination of the basis of a specific / borrowed word and the actual Ukrainian affix. Another feature of modern domestic terminology is the incomplete normalization of individual terminological systems. This situation can be explained by several factors. Thus, there are terminological systems that serve the branches of science, which are now developing rapidly and continuously (for example, the terminology of information technology), as a result of which the number of new terms is significant. Naturally, the rationing and standardization of terms is somewhat delayed compared to the oral use of special units by specialists. However, there are terminology systems that have been operating for a long time, but include terms that need improvement or replacement (eg, radiology terminology, radiation safety, dosimetry). The reason for such incomplete standardization of certain terminological systems is primarily in the non-linguistic sphere, as the above branches of science developed most actively during the stay of Ukraine in the USSR. Hence, we have such a state of affairs that the terms of the vast majority of industries were regulated exclusively in Russian. The article also describes the leading lexicographical publications that meet the regulatory requirements for works: Dictionary of Ukrainian biological terminology, ed. Grodzinsky D.M., Symonenko L.O. and Economic Dictionary (compilers Zavadsky J.S., Osovska T.V., Yushkevich O.O.).

The publication covers an obscure episode from the scientific biography of the great Russian philosopher Alexei Losev related to his work in the 1920s at the State Academy of Artistic Sciences (GAKhN). For the first time, Losev’s thirteen articles from Research Department of manuscripts of the Russian State Library [f. 81 (State Academy of art studies), inv. 26, item 1] are put into scientific circulation: “Antiquity”, “Apollinism”, “Harmony”, “Dionysism”, “Callistics”, “Calocagathia”, “Catharsis”, “Cosmic feeling”, “Cosmos”, “Logos”, “Mania”, “Mathematics and art”, “Melos”. This articles were written in the second half of the 1920s and were intended for a publishing project of the State Academy of Artistic Sciences – the first volume of the multi-volume “Encyclopedia of Artistic Sciences”, conceived in 1922 as a “Dictionary of Artistic Terminology”. The project was never realized. The topics of the articles reflect the range of the scientific problems that interested Losev in the 1920s as well as his special attention to the study of terminology, which found its full implementation in the 1970 – 1980s during the work on “The History of Classical Aesthetics”.

Особливості перекладу англомовної фінансової термінології крізь призму метафоризації

The article is devoted to the analysis of the peculiarities of the translation of English financial terminology. It is emphasized that professional terminology as the main source of replenishment of vocabulary of general literary language arouses non-accidental interest of foreign language teachers in the methods of teaching translation of special texts and, accordingly, terms within the course „Foreign language for specific purposes”. The necessity of searching for new methods of teaching students professional vocabulary, the purpose of which would not be memorizing a certain lexical minimum, but the formation of skills of understanding the mechanisms underlying the formation of terms, is substantiated. It is proved that within the framework of the problem-activity approach to teaching a foreign language for specific purposes, an effective method of translating economic terms is to study their etymology through the prism of metaphorization, which is one of the most effective methods of term formation in the financial sphere of English. Analysis of financial terms of metaphorical origin, which describes human activity in the stock market within the framework of the metaphor „a man is an animal”, led to the conclusion that the most used names of animals that act as term-forming components in the process of metaphorizing the financial terminology of the English language are the words such as bull, bear, rabbit / hare, turtle, pig, ostrich, sheep, dog, stag, wolf, lame duck, whale, shark. It is proved that the formation of foreign language terminological literacy of students provides for the presentation of the studied material in the form of a conceptual model and a visual description of economic concepts based on prototypical ideas about animals. The study of the main features of the functioning of zoomorphic terms in specific English-language texts was carried out using terminological and explanatory dictionaries, as well as analytical reviews of financial markets.

Headnote Prediction Using Machine Learning

Headnotes are the precise explanation and summary of legal points in an issued judgment. Law journals hire experienced lawyers to write these headnotes. These headnotes help the reader quickly determine the issue discussed in the case. Headnotes comprise two parts. The first part comprises the topic discussed in the judgment, and the second part contains a summary of that judgment. In this thesis, we design, develop and evaluate headnote prediction using machine learning, without involving human involvement. We divided this task into a two steps process. In the first step, we predict law points used in the judgment by using text classification algorithms. The second step generates a summary of the judgment using text summarization techniques. To achieve this task, we created a Databank by extracting data from different law sources in Pakistan. We labelled training data generated based on Pakistan law websites. We tested different feature extraction methods on judiciary data to improve our system. Using these feature extraction methods, we developed a dictionary of terminology for ease of reference and utility. Our approach achieves 65% accuracy by using Linear Support Vector Classification with tri-gram and without stemmer. Using active learning our system can continuously improve the accuracy with the increased labelled examples provided by the users of the system.

Concept of the historical dictionary of the linguistic terms

This article outlines theoretical principles of composing a historical dictionary of linguistic terms for the period from 1600s to 1950s. The author intends to implement the idea of modern lexicography in the creation of active type dictionaries aimed not only to reflect the semantic content but also reflect the dynamics of a word in its functioning. Such a dictionary can undoubtedly pursue the integrated task of a language description in which the word appears as a lexical unit and an element associated with the spiritual and material culture of an ethnic group. The article discusses stages for compiling a diachronic corpus of linguistic texts, namely the ISTLING corpus. At the preparatory stage, a diachronic cognitive map of the linguistic term which represents formal and semantic conceptualization and categorization is modeled. At the first stage, the electronic linguistic text archive, i.e., array of 400 electronic, scanned, and manually dialed editions, is created. Later, it will be transformed it into an electronic library of linguistic texts including markup of texts by type of the importance for user’s information. It will allow for using the corpus as an information, reference, and research system. Text analysis presented in the ISTLING corpus provides various linguistic source profiles generalizing information about using the linguistic term in these sources. The historical and terminological dictionary register is going to represent a complete list of linguistic terms by selected time intervals. Diachronic study of Uzbek and English architectural construction terms.

New technologies demand on educational institutions call for innovative methods of language and content instruction. The aim of the paper is to present terminology and research in the field of architecture and construction. The crucial issues concerning unification, normalization, creation of terminological dictionaries which could satisfy completely the needs of experts working in various areas of science or architecture and construction are very important. The development of ways of term formation and terminology contributes to the active participation of experts in solving actual issues of modern science and technology, thereby increasing their informational awareness. The goal was to analyze terminology in architecture and construction.

The Semantic of Business Vocabulary and Business Rules: An Automatic Generation From Textual Statements

In the early phases of the software development process, specifications are mostly written in a natural language rather than formal models, which is not supported by the Model Driven Architecture (MDA). For this reason, the Semantic of Business Vocabulary and Rules (SBVR) is proposed by the Object Management Group to represent the textual specifications in a language comprehensible by both of humans and machines, to facilitate its integration in the MDA lifecycle. However, businesspeople are usually not familiar with SBVR standard. In this paper we present an approach to automatically transform textual business rules to an SBVR model, to facilitate its integration in nowadays information technology infrastructures. Our approach is distinguished from existing works in that it uses an in-depth Natural Language Processing to extract a more comprehensible SBVR model that includes the semantic formulation of each business rule statement, coupled with a Terminological Dictionary of extracted concepts, to which we have added further specifications such as definitions and synonyms. The evaluation of our approach shows that for three sets of business rules statements taken from different domains, we could generate the correct meaning with an average of F1-score exceeding 87%.

DISQUALIFICATION: BACKGROUND AND CURRENT STATUS OF THE TERM (inventory and codification sketch)

Modern Ukrainian legal terminology and nomenclature have their own distinguishing features, noticeable among them are disorder, inconsistency, non-normativity, which in turn cause functional inequality. Such features had a historical and contemporary basis: they are based on the achievements of the Soviet period (unfortunately, not always positive) and the achievements of modern times (often generated by language and legal illiteracy). A significant number of twists and disadvantages in legal terminology make a set (system?) of dangers and leads to a number of problems in both legislative and practices which use. Ukrainian scholars in the field of linguistics and law, practitioners, legislators have many tools and means in changing this situation. The task of this article is to illustrate one of the possible practical ways to avoid these and other problems – inventory and codification of terminology and nomenclature and means (ways) of their implementation. The article is concerned with the term disqualification, the history of the emergence and formation of which illustrates the processes and ways of Russification of Ukrainian legal terminology and language in general. Being unnatural, artificial, the word disqualification reveals a number of features that contradict the point of the term and terminology as a whole system: inconsistency of form and content, misinterpretation and lack of definition itself, lack of system-forming properties and, consequently, inability to be an element of hierarchy, inconsistency and incoherence of practical usage, polysemy, homonymy, generating adverse associativity, etc. The article presents the history of analyzed word emerging and ‘making’ it a term in lexicographic works (including terminological dictionaries), in legislative acts, in the practice of its usage. Taking into account the laws and rules of terms creation in the Ukrainian language, particularities of legal language and its functioning; the proper form and definition of the analyzed concept is offered, some consequences and results of consistent use of the offered term and its definition are named.

ОБУЧЕНИЕ ПЕРЕВОДУ С ЛИСТА КАК САМОСТОЯТЕЛЬНОМУ ВИДУ ДЕЯТЕЛЬНОСТИ В СФЕРЕ ПРОФЕССИОНАЛЬНОЙ КОММУНИКАЦИИ

The given article is devoted to the analysis of modern linguists and interpreters view on the classification of translation types on the whole, and the definition of sight translation as a specific type of professional activity in particular. Universal and specific characteristics of the sight translation with other types of interpretation are revealed. Special problems of authentic text translation, their reasons and the ways of their solving are considered. Complicated (minus) and facilitated (plus) factors performing sight translation are highlighted. The necessary skills for the students to perform visual-oral translation are determined. The authors present two types of sight translation: the training sight translation and the professional one, thus enabling to consider sight translation as a specific professional activity. Sight translation algorithm of actions is considered in the article: familiarization with the text, its «pre-translation analysis» with type, genre, stylistic features, topic identification and the further work on the translation-text creation. Additional sources of information are indicated in order to provide «background knowledge» about the authentic text, they are dictionaries, encyclopedias, instructions, various reference books and manuals. It is recommended to create a terminology dictionary for students’ specialties that help to overcome the lexical barrier and master the particular specialty vocabulary.

TERMINOLOGICAL REPRESENTATION OF THE «ВЛАДА» (“POWER”) CONCEPT: FRAME BASED ANALYSIS

The concept of power is absolutely central to any understanding of society and human relations. Most people have an intuitive notion of what it means. But what about scientists? How is the power defined in politology? What is the political term влада used for? What are the features of this concept? The present study is aimed to answer, how the concept of power is represented in the scientific language of politologists, which language means are used to represent this notion in the Ukrainian terminology. The research of the concept “power” is carried out from the standpoint of cognitive terminology. It is based on several complementary methods and theoretical approaches, including, but not limited to the frame semantic theory and the theory of conceptual metaphor. Extensive lexical material was used for the investigation. The linguistic data of the study has been obtained from multiple sources such as Ukrainian terminological dictionaries, encyclopedias and scientific texts (monographs, dissertations and scientific articles). The structure of the politological concept “power” is modeled with the help of the frame. It consists of the following basic components (slots): “getting / loosing”, “control”, “subject”, “object”, “instrument” and “result”. All of the slots are represented in the semantic structure of lexical units used to nominate or describe the concepts. The peculiarities of their verbal representation are described. The results obtained in the research may prove to be useful in a much broader context of studies – the inquiry into the principles of human categorization and conceptualization

Linguistic expertology and terminographic criticism are the areas of applied linguistics, but there is inequality as to qualification of their genres status – linguistic examination and review of a terminological dictionary. There is a need for the comparative and contrastive analysis of features and status of genres of linguistic examination and review of a terminological dictionary.

Scientific terminology: Issues, the search, and prospects

This article analyzes the direction of the Department of Scientific Terminology of the Institute of the Ukrainian Language of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine within the last 30 years. It reviews theoretical studies in systemic-structural terminology, the methodological dominant in scientific terminology for a long period. In particular, the authors focus on onomasiological, semasiological, and historical-genetic studies presented in monographs. The paper highlights cross-paradigmatic research done on the intersection of structural and functional branches of terminological studies. An excursus marks the scientific research areas in cognitive/epistemological terminology and shows the peculiarities of the applied branch in the field of terminography alongside background information and didactic work. There are different types of terminological dictionaries compiled and edited in the Department for various purposes. During 1991–2021, explanatory, translational, and nongraphic dictionaries were created in the Department. An important aspect of the applied terminology is writing references and educational books. It is emphasized that the previous terminological studies’ vector correlates with the vector of modern researches accomplished by the specialists of the Institute of the Ukrainian Language.
