This study aims to conduct an integrated review of the basic concepts of sociology of education and the thoughts of key figures in sociology (Durkheim, Comte, Weber, Marx, Simmel) as a theoretical basis for understanding the function of education in contemporary society. The method used is a descriptive-analytical literature study with data collection from two main papers that are combined with supporting literature; the analysis is conducted through content analysis techniques to examine themes, similarities, and theoretical implications. The results of the study show that the basic concepts of educational sociology include the relationship between education and social institutions (family, economy, politics), social interactions in schools (teacher-student, student-student), the curriculum as a social construct including the hidden curriculum, and the dual role of education as an agent of reproduction and an agent of social change. The thoughts of these figures enrich the framework: Durkheim emphasizes integrative functions and norm formation, Marx highlights the reproduction of class inequality, Weber emphasizes social action and the bureaucratization of education, Comte provides a positivist methodological foundation, and Simmel highlights the dynamics of micro-interactions. In conclusion, the integration of basic concepts and the ideas of key figures produce a comprehensive theoretical framework for analyzing education policy, curriculum, and practice. The limitation of this research is that it is only based on literature, so the recommendation includes empirical field studies to test the relevance of the findings in the context of Indonesian educational practice.

Lawyers play a vital role in upholding justice and ensuring equality within society. As officers of the court, they act as a bridge between the public and the judicial system, defending the rights of individuals and promoting fair treatment for all, regardless of social, economic, or political status. By providing legal representation, offering pro bono services, and advocating for law reforms, lawyers contribute to a more equitable society. Their ethical duty requires them to fight against discrimination, corruption, and injustice while maintaining the integrity of the legal profession. In both criminal and civil matters, lawyers ensure that the rule of law prevails, protecting the weak from exploitation and holding the powerful accountable. Thus, the role of lawyers extends beyond courtroom advocacy; they are essential agents of social change who strive to create a balanced and fair justice system rooted in equality and human rights.

Strengthening Pancasila-based education at the University of Jember is a strategic step in facing the challenges of the national digitalization era. Through a learning approach that instills moral, social, and national values, students are guided to develop ethical, critical, and responsible digital literacy skills. This research employed qualitative methods, including literature review techniques and observations of educational programs at UNEJ. The results indicate that integrating Pancasila values into the learning process strengthens students' character as agents of social change who are adaptive to technological developments. The implementation of Pancasila-based education also encourages collaboration, mutual cooperation, and social awareness in the digital world. Therefore, strengthening Pancasila-based education is a crucial foundation for creating a young generation with character, digital literacy, and global competitiveness without losing their identity as Indonesians.

Purpose This study aims to explore initiatives to transform organizational and management processes to improve the Church of Naples’ response to various forms of poverty within the community. Design/methodology/approach The research investigates the change management process chosen and implemented in faith-based organizations (FBOs) through a qualitative approach based on action research. The strategic organizational dynamics are observed as they develop, and the information is documented in a research diary. Data is collected from various sources, including church documents and semistructured interviews. Findings Results emphasize the need to balance pastoral vocation and managerialism, requiring governance leaders to be both visionaries and skilled managers of organizational systems. It shows how concrete change can be achieved. The research further shows how environmental pressure can be a push for process innovation, through effective strategic rethinking. Practical implications These are related to how organizational change can be successfully introduced in organizations such as churches, merging the concepts of managerialism and professionalization in a sector where the spirit of charity has always been the primary managerial driver. Social implications The manuscript suggests a rethinking of the role of FBOs as social actors and agents of change in achieving sustainable development. Originality/value This research contributes to theoretical and empirical knowledge in a relatively explored area (poverty alleviation) in an equally under-investigated context (FBOs). The action research approach is original as it allows for the observation of change as it occurs, rather than analyzing it ex post.

Sport is a powerful cultural institution that not only reflects but also reinforces societal norms, especially those related to gender and ability. Traditional sport psychology focuses on individual performance and often overlooks broader socio-cultural contexts. This article advocates a critical shift toward a Cultural Sport Psychology (CSP) model grounded in cultural praxis to realize sport's potential as an agent of social change. Using an intersectional and deconstructive framework, we explore how CSP-informed interventions can actively challenge and dismantle deeply rooted cultural stereotypes about gender and disability. We illustrate how psychological strategies can decenter the 'feminine ideal' and redefine hegemonic masculinity, while also supporting Para-athletes in navigating the ableist gaze and fostering competence-based self-representations. Additionally, we highlight the essential role of interdisciplinary education and corporate responsibility, particularly within the framework of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), to enable cultural transformation. By positioning athletes as agents of cultural change and engaging in systemic transformation, sport psychology can transcend its traditional focus, becoming a key discipline in the global movement for inclusion and social justice.

Islamic organizations in the current digital and global era are not only focused on religious aspects but also actively involved in social issues, such as education, health, welfare, and human rights advocacy. This role is crucial because modern Islamic organizations often serve as a bridge between Islamic values and current social challenges, as well as assisting communities experiencing problems such as discrimination, poverty, or climate change. The capacity of modern Islamic organizations in social struggles can be strengthened through creative collaboration methods. This study has a novel qualitative descriptive approach that focuses on Islamic organizations in Indonesia. This research differs from previous studies that have focused on religious aspects or Islamic organizations globally. Instead, this study focuses on the local dynamics of modern Islamic organizations, which have unique characteristics in social struggles. This study also positions the role of organizations as agents of comprehensive social change in the modern era. This study uses a library research method, namely research conducted by examining, reading, and reviewing various literature sources relevant to the theme of the Role of Islamic Organizations in Social Struggle. The results of the discussion provide information that modern Islamic organizations have a big impact on Islamic boarding school education by using the methods they have.

The concept of S.A.N.T.R.I is a conceptual model in pesantren education that aims to develop the holistic intelligence and character of students through six main pillars, namely Scientific (science and holistic intelligence), Art (art as a path to beauty and closeness to Allah), Natural (awareness of nature and signs of Allah's greatness), Triple I (Islam, Iman, Ihsan), Result (self-evaluation and reflection), and Integrity (moral integrity and spiritual responsibility). This study uses a literature study method by examining verses of the Qur'an, Hadith, and academic references related to the value of Islamic education and pesantren traditions. The results show that the concept of S.A.N.T.R.I is able to strengthen the integration between knowledge, faith, and pious deeds, thereby giving birth to students who are not only knowledgeable but also possess noble character, love beauty, care about the environment, live based on faith values, and have high integrity, ready to become ethical agents of social change.

The research in the kiai visionary da'wah strategy is how to take an innovative approach in mobilizing and realizing students to become independent millennial farmers. The lack of studies that examine the integration of da'wah with agricultural economic empowerment among students is one of the gaps in this study. There have been few studies that have explored the role of kiai as an agent of change in addressing the challenges of modern agribusiness today. This research is important for providing an applicable strategic model. The concrete strategies carried out by kiai in realizing millennial farmer students include: first, through the integration of the pesantren curriculum with skills. Second, vocational training programs. Third, partnership programs with external parties. In addition, kiai also implements a learning by doing model so that students are able to implement agricultural science practically. Theoretically, this research contributes to the development of contemporary da'wah theory that integrates spiritual values with agribusiness-based economic empowerment. This study can broaden the understanding that kiai are not only spiritual guides, but also agents of social and economic change. On the other hand, this research also enriches the literature on the visionary da'wah of kiai by emphasizing the aspect of economic independence of students to the needs of the millennial generation in the modern era. Meanwhile, this research can serve as a reference for Islamic boarding schools in designing agriculture-based student empowerment programs aimed at promoting economic independence

This article examines the role of the mobilization of relatives of the disappeared in advancing transitional justice through a case study of Turkey’s Saturday Mothers – a group of relatives of the disappeared who have persistently demanded truth, justice and remembrance since 1995. A close examination of their pivotal role expands our understanding of the potential of grassroots organizations in achieving their goals in repressive settings across the world. Despite the ongoing repression and denial by the Turkish state, the Saturday Mothers have effectively contributed to the truth, justice, guarantees of non-recurrence and memorialization pillars of transitional justice. By challenging the silence and impunity surrounding enforced disappearances, they have created an alternative space for truth telling and public memory. The article argues that even in ongoing conflict and repressive regimes where denial and silence are prominent in the state’s approach to enforced disappearances, relatives of the disappeared have the potential to create change, although this change may not be reflected in official mechanisms Ultimately, the article reframes relatives of the disappeared as active agents of justice and social change. The Saturday Mothers provide a powerful example of how relatives of the disappeared can challenge impunity, foster collective memory and promote a more inclusive understanding of justice, even in the absence of formal state recognition or support.

This study aims to analyze the strategic role of Islamic financial institutions (IFIs) in improving the economic capabilities of vulnerable women, particularly those in limited socioeconomic conditions. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach based on field studies, this research was conducted on several Islamic microfinance institutions such as Baitul Maal wat Tamwil (BMT) and Islamic cooperatives that actively channel financing to women microentrepreneurs. Data collection techniques included in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation of the empowerment activities carried out by these institutions. The results show that LKS have a significant contribution in opening access to business capital, building women's confidence, and expanding family economic participation. Financing schemes based on the values of fairness, empathy, and transparency are the main strengths in building relationships that are not only transactional but also transformational. However, challenges remain in the form of limited sustainable assistance, lack of integration with other social programs, and the lack of outcome-based evaluation instruments. This study confirms that LKS not only function as fund providers but also as agents of social change that can strengthen the economic position of vulnerable women in a sustainable manner within the framework of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah.

Social entrepreneurship has gained increasing prominence in addressing complex societal challenges through innovative, sustainable solutions. However, in Malaysia, the development of the social entrepreneurship sector remains limited, particularly among university students who are often viewed as potential agents of social change. This study examines the psychological and social factors that influence students’ intention to engage in social entrepreneurship, focusing on four key antecedents: empathy, moral obligation, self-efficacy, and social support. Grounded in the Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and the Entrepreneurial Event Model (EEM), the research employs a quantitative approach using a structured questionnaire distributed among Malaysian university students. Data were collected from 193 respondents and analysed using SPSS, applying correlation and regression techniques to test the proposed relationships. The findings demonstrate that all four constructs significantly influence Social Entrepreneurial Intention (SEI), with self-efficacy emerging as the most prominent predictor. The study contributes theoretically by validating an integrated cognitive–affective model of SEI and expanding its applicability within the context of Malaysian higher education. Practically, the results provide valuable insights for educators, institutional leaders, and policymakers to design targeted interventions that enhance students’ readiness to pursue social entrepreneurship. By identifying key motivational drivers, this study supports efforts to cultivate a new generation of socially conscious entrepreneurs equipped to drive inclusive and sustainable development.

Purpose – This study maps current evidence on religious moderation in Islamic Education in Indonesia to assess the effectiveness of policy, curriculum, pedagogy, and the institutional ecosystem—framed by Pancasila—as a counter-radicalization strategy and a shaper of inclusive character. Design/methods/approach – Systematic Literature Review (SLR) grounded in Kitchenham & Charters. Scopus search (February 12, 2025) using TITLE-ABS-KEY("religious" AND "moderation"), period 2018–2025, document type article. 754 articles found; 127 filtered as relevant; 72 fully reviewed; 2 excluded (review-based); 70 analyzed through qualitative content analysis (mechanical and interpretive stages) following the PRISMA scheme. Findings – Implementation of moderation is effective when wasathiyah values are integrated across subjects and practiced through dialogic methods (problem solving, inquiry, discussion), an integrative curriculum, and educator involvement. As a counter-radicalization strategy, effectiveness is supported by firm campus policies framed by Pancasila, the strengthening of national values (tawassuth, tawazun, i‘tidal, al-wathaniyah), and the role of madrasahs and universities as agents of social change. Key factors include school leadership, an inclusive curriculum, interfaith dialogue, and directed use of technology (Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge [TPACK]). These findings sequentially answer RQ1–RQ4 (curriculum implementation; counter-radicalization strategies; contributions of empirical approaches; the role of higher education). Research implications – Recommendations include the standardization of moderation competencies in the Islamic Religious Education (PAI)/higher-education curriculum; the design of dialogic pedagogy grounded in experiential learning and inclusive social projects; capacity building for educators and digital literacy (TPACK); and institutional policies that synergize mentoring, intra/extracurricular activities, anti-radicalization governance, and curation of the educational digital ecosystem.

Bullying is one of the issues that frequently occurs in elementary school environments and has serious impacts on children’s psychological, social, and academic development. Efforts to prevent and address bullying are essential through education involving students, teachers, and the surrounding community. This study aims to describe the role of Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata, KKN) students in providing anti-bullying education at UPT SDN 033915 Pasi. The research employed a descriptive qualitative method with a case study approach. Data were obtained through observation, simple interviews, and documentation of the anti-bullying seminar activities conducted by KKN students at the school. The results indicate that KKN students act as educators by explaining the definition, forms, and impacts of bullying; as facilitators by creating interactive discussion spaces with students; and as motivators encouraging students to respect one another and reject bullying behavior. Educational strategies were implemented through lectures, discussions, Q&A sessions, and the use of simple visual media. Students’ responses were very positive, demonstrated by their enthusiasm during activities and increased understanding of the dangers of bullying. The study concludes that KKN students play an important role in preventing bullying in elementary schools, while also serving as a tangible contribution of students as agents of social change.

This panel will explore the intersection of Critical Race Theory and Library and Information Science unveiling the challenges, opportunities, and actionable steps for integrating CRT into library practices, education, and services. Emerging from legal studies in the 1970s, CRT has is considered the key framework for addressing systemic racism and understanding the role of power and race in shaping societal structures. In this session, panelists will discuss how CRT can be used to transform library practices and offer solutions for the evolving challenges faced by libraries and LIS educators. Panelists will explain how CRT’s core ideas can offer new perspectives on issues of access, representation, and equity within libraries helping attendees understand why CRT is crucial in reshaping how libraries address race and how library systems can either perpetuate or challenge racial inequalities. In addition, panelists will examine the tension between the field’s traditional commitment to neutrality and CRT’s call for activism and social justice unveiling how these competing values can sometimes create friction, especially when it comes to rethinking established practices like collection development, access to resources, and library services. Panelists will engage in a candid conversation centered on the difficulties of shifting these practices in ways that more actively promote racial justice and inclusivity. Another topic will be the gap in LIS education regarding CRT. Drawing from studies that reveal LIS students often receive little to no exposure to CRT during their graduate programs, the panel will highlight the urgent need for educational reform. Panelists will advocate for curricula that more comprehensively integrate CRT, preparing future librarians to understand and confront issues of racial power dynamics and inequities in their professional work. They will discuss the ways in which a CRT-infused education can equip future library leaders with the tools they need to challenge and dismantle systemic racism in their practices. Panelists will offer practical ways that CRT can be applied in libraries and real-world examples of how library services and collections can be reimagined through the lens of CRT. Noting the importance of diversifying collections, ensuring that libraries offer equitable access to resources, and creating inclusive spaces where all community members feel represented and heard. By focusing on action-oriented solutions to illustrate how libraries can move beyond theory and engage in concrete efforts to address racial inequities. A key theme of the panel will be the role of librarians as agents of social change. Finally, the panel will look ahead to the future of CRT in LIS with strategies for ensuring that CRT principles continue to be integrated into LIS practices and education in the long term. This will include ideas for advocating for policy changes within libraries, promoting diversity and inclusion within LIS education, and fostering an ongoing commitment to racial justice in library services and operations. Panelists will leave attendees with actionable steps they can take to incorporate CRT into their own professional practices and educational settings.

The Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata / KKN) is one of the main pillars of higher education’s Tri Dharma that emphasizes direct community engagement. The 5th KKN program of Muhammadiyah University of Mamuju was conducted in Lakahang Village, Tabulahan District, Mamasa Regency, focusing on three strategic issues: stunting prevention, drug abuse prevention, and environmental awareness campaigns. The primary objective was to provide practical solutions to health, social, and environmental problems faced by the community, while simultaneously enhancing students’ social sensitivity and problem-solving skills. The program was implemented through participatory, educational, and collaborative approaches involving field observation, health counseling, awareness campaigns, practical demonstrations, community clean-up activities, and mentoring. The results showed an increase in mothers’ knowledge of balanced nutrition and child care during the first 1,000 days of life, the establishment of the “Lakahang Youth Anti-Drug Community” as a platform for youth empowerment, and greater public awareness of environmental cleanliness through the creation of simple waste bins and routine “Friday Clean-Up” activities. These findings confirm that KKN-based community service can make a tangible contribution to improving community well-being, fostering collective awareness, and strengthening the role of students as agents of social change.

Tangerang Regency faces food security challenges due to high poverty rates and nutritional insecurity, particularly in rural areas such as Sodong Village, a pilot site for the Food Independent Village Program. Despite its considerable agricultural potential, the village encounters obstacles including limited resources, low community participation, and suboptimal communication strategies in the empowerment of Women Farmers Groups (Kelompok Wanita Tani or KWT in Bahasa Indonesia). This study aims to analyze the collaborative governance model in KWT empowerment, evaluate its impact on food security and village socio-economic welfare, and identify development communication strategies that can strengthen the participation and technical capacity of KWT members. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed, with data collection techniques including in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis. The study in Sodong Village, Tangerang Regency, shows that cross-actor involvement—including the village government, technical agencies, KWT, the community, and the private sector—plays a crucial role in shaping participatory and inclusive governance in the implementation of the Food Independent Village Program. In this context, KWT has transformed into an agent of social change, contributing to increased consumption of nutritious food, higher household income, and strengthened women's roles in local decision-making processes. Identified development communication strategies include interpersonal, digital, institutional, educational, and multi-sectoral communication, which collectively create a dialogical and collaborative ecosystem to foster active participation and enhance the technical capacity of KWT members.
