Immigrant origin youth are among the largest growing population in the United States of America (U.S.), and are important political agents for social change. This study examines how these youth engage in interracial solidarity, particularly in digital spaces. This study used reflexive thematic analysis to analyze the Twitter posts of 36 immigrant origin youth (ages 18–23; 62.5% women) from African/Afro-Latine, Latine, and Asian origins. We examined their posts about the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement and racial justice for Black Americans in 2020. We found that immigrant origin youths’ identities as racial-ethnic minorities informed their support of BLM. Further, we found racial differences in digital action such that African-origin youth focused on celebrating Blackness and calling in peers of all races, while non-African origin youth strategically amplified the work of U.S.-origin Black Americans and called in allyship in their racial-ethnic communities. Lastly, we found that African-origin youth viewed their positionality within the BLM movement differently compared to their U.S.-born Black peers due to their different relationship to chattel slavery and anti-Blackness. This study suggests that scholars and practitioners can support immigrant origin youths’ sociopolitical development by incorporating an intersectional analysis of inequities to promote collective identification and mass mobilization.

This research explores the role of animated films as a medium for addressing social issues, particularly discrimination, with a focus on the film “Elemental” (2023). Using a qualitative approach, the study analyzes discriminatory actions and their impacts on the three main characters: Barnie, Cinder, and Ember. Drawing on Dovidio and Esses’ (2010) theory of discrimination and Ayón's (2015) concept of effects, the research highlights parts of the film depicting discrimination and its physical and non-physical consequences. The result of the current study shows that different types of discrimination were portrayed in the movie through explicit and implicit actions as well as institutional and cultural biases. These findings indicate that animated films can effectively convey information about discrimination to various audiences, especially children, in a creative and easily understandable manner. This reaffirms that animated films serve not only as tools for ideological communication but also as agents of social change. The study also dissects the negative impacts of discrimination on the mental health and family functions experienced by the main characters. Through the analysis of discriminatory actions presented in dialogue, settings, and actions in the film, the research provides a profound understanding of the main characters' experiences in facing discrimination. In conclusion, this research reinforces the importance of using animated films as a tool for voicing social issues.

Teachers frequently happen to be the most influential role models and social change agents in the eyes and minds of young people as well as the whole society in many cultures. Since they are closely involved in promoting the ideas for the goodness of communities and the whole world either as individuals or educators, teachers’ behaviours across all aspects of their life are correspondingly valuable. Therefore, what teachers do in and out of school for the benefit of nature, society or humanity is a crucial phenomenon worth studying. With this study, we aimed to identify the motives for and the predictors of PEBs (pro-environmental behaviours) that teachers follow in their personal, professional, or social spheres and specify whether those behaviours are the characteristics of a particular teacher group or not. Designed as a survey, the research was mainly a correlational study exploring the existing relationships between teachers’ tendency to adopt PEBs and certain socio-demographics along with internal factors. In this inquiry, we surveyed 330 Turkish in-service teachers representing different educational settings across the country through a cross-sectional online questionnaire and performed descriptive statistics and multiple regression analyses with the help of the software STATA. Based on the findings of the study, we presented suggestions for policy and practice in teacher education as well as implications for future research on pro-environmental practices and environmental education.

ABSTRACT This research delves into the dynamics of power within Danish society and its impact on marginalized communities. It addresses the issues associated with current policies in Denmark, with a particular focus on the Government's policy document titled ‘One Denmark without Parallel Societies – no Ghettos in 2030’, which was published in 2018. The study provides examples of how these policies contribute to a broader issue and how the labeling of an area can stigmatize the residents of these neighborhoods, perpetuate negative stereotypes, and contribute to social exclusion. The Danish Government's labeling of ‘parallel societies’ is not an isolated case but is seen across Europe. The paper explores the critical role of museums and how they can be agents of social change. Finally, the study provides first-hand experience of working in the community and collaborating with art museums to challenge racial structures in Danish society.

This research analyzes the role of priests in social dialogue related to the implementation of the Public Housing Savings Program (TAPERA) in Riam Batang Parish and its impact on the lives of the people. TAPERA, as an Indonesian government initiative, aims to facilitate livable house ownership for low-income people through savings and financing schemes. In Riam Batang Parish, priests not only function as spiritual leaders, but also as facilitators of social dialogue and agents of change. This research uses a qualitative approach with case studies, collecting data through in-depth interviews with priests and congregation. The research results show that imams play a key role in increasing people's awareness and understanding of TAPERA, as well as helping overcome bureaucratic and economic obstacles. The Imam plays an active role in providing education and outreach regarding this program, helping the congregation access its benefits, and being a mediator between the congregation and government agencies. However, several challenges such as lack of understanding of the people, complicated administrative processes, and economic limitations are still significant obstacles. This research highlights the importance of effective social dialogue built by priests in supporting the implementation of TAPERA, as well as the need for collaboration between the church, government and local communities to overcome these challenges. Thus, the role of the priest in a social and economic context becomes essential in improving the welfare of the people and achieving the goals of a more inclusive and sustainable public housing program.

Abstract This essay explores the evolution and resilience of the shlemiel, a central figure in two millennia of Jewish culture. Rooted in biblical narratives, the shlemiel transitions eventually into a symbol of Yiddish and Eastern European diasporic life, embodying both comedic and tragic elements. Tracing his journey through cultural history, from German to Yiddish and modern Hebrew and American literature, theater, and film, the essay delves into the complexities of his character, rooted in folklore and revolving around mistaken identity. Themes of gender and sexuality, along with interpretative acrobatics add layers of ambiguity and complexity, shaping the shlemiel’s narrative in various literary and cultural contexts. Through a detailed analysis of works by authors ranging from Heinrich Heine through Sholem Aleichem, Franz Kafka, Saul Bellow, Philip Roth, to Sammy Gronemann, the essay demonstrates the shlemiel’s versatility and enduring presence in Jewish comedy. Moreover, it examines his role as both a pariah and an agent for social change, reflecting on his significance in different cultural landscapes, as he lands eventually in America and Palestine/Israel in the 20th century. By exploring adaptations and interpretations across time and place, this essay highlights the shlemiel’s resilience amidst shifting societal norms across the globe, offering insights into the enduring relevance of this iconic figure in Jewish literature and culture.
