Social and Spiritual Transformation in the Leadership of Prophet Yusuf: Sociological and Spiritual Analysis in Egypt in 16 BC
  • Jan 10, 2025
  • JUSPI (Jurnal Sejarah Peradaban Islam)
  • Rudi Salam + 2 more

<em>This research examines the social and spiritual transformation in the story of the Prophet Yusuf from a sociological perspective. The story of the Prophet Yusuf in the Koran is known to have a deep message and universal learning value. Prophet Yusuf inspired social and spiritual change with his empathetic actions towards the people around him. This research focuses on the final stage of social change implemented by the Prophet Yusuf after becoming the leader of Egypt. The research method used is content analysis with a phenomenological approach. This research shows that Prophet Yusuf as an agent of social change had strong leadership integrity. He inspires change by maintaining personal integrity, being a role model in honesty, forgiveness, and patience, and interacting with various levels of society. The process of social change carried out by Prophet Yusuf includes centrifugal methods (changing oneself first and influencing the people around him) and cultural diffusion (changing the culture of Egyptian society). This research concludes that the story of Prophet Yusuf provides insight into how social change can occur, namely through leadership integrity and cultural change. This story shows that social change can start from individuals who have strong vision and integrity, who then influence the community around them and spread the values of change through culture.</em>

  • Jan 1, 2025
  • NEYA Global Journal of Non-Profit Studies
  • Anna Neya Kazanskaia

This article examines the central role of ethics in non-profit consulting, highlighting integrity, transparency, accountability, and respect as guiding principles for practice and organizational sustainability. It explores how consultants manage ethical tensions such as conflicts of interest, confidentiality, and cultural diversity, and how these challenges shape trust, credibility, and long-term impact. The discussion emphasizes the importance of professional standards, continuous self-assessment, and practical tools—ethics checklists, monitoring systems, and training—in embedding ethics across consulting practice. Case-based illustrations demonstrate how inclusive, culturally competent, and transparent approaches strengthen organizational legitimacy and stakeholder trust. Looking to the future, the article considers how digital innovation, global collaboration, and the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles are reshaping the field. Consultants must balance technological adaptation with ethical safeguards while maintaining accountability and inclusivity across global contexts. The analysis concludes that ethics in non-profit consulting is not limited to compliance but represents a philosophy of responsibility and respect. By embedding ethical practices into daily operations, consultants act as stewards of trust and agents of social change, ensuring long-term impact and sustainable development.

Empowering Through Education: A Savitribai Phule Perspective on Women’s Roles in the New Education Policy (NEP)
  • Jan 1, 2025
  • International Journal of Research and Scientific Innovation
  • Dr Amarnath Paswan + 1 more

The new education policy introduced by the government has rolled out various programs aimed at uplifting the situation of women. While these initiatives are commendable, there is a glaring gap when it comes to addressing the unique challenges faced by Dalit women. These women, who belong to the most marginalized sections of society, are often left out of the broader discourse on women’s empowerment. The policies designed for their upliftment are few and far between, reflecting a systemic oversight. Even when such policies exist, Dalit women remain largely uninformed due to the lack of effective communication and outreach strategies. Their limited awareness is compounded by the daily struggles of managing household chores and enduring caste-class oppression, which further restrict their access to educational and employment opportunities. Moreover, the focus of the existing programs often leans towards low-skilled jobs, which, while providing some economic relief, fail to impart the true essence of education. Education, in its most powerful form, is a tool for empowerment and social transformation. However, the current approach reduces it to a mere means of economic survival. As a result, Dalit women, even if they manage to acquire some form of education or skill, are not equipped to challenge the socio-cultural norms that oppress them. This perpetuates a cycle where they remain disempowered, unable to break free from the shackles of caste and gender discrimination. Savitri Bai Phule, a pioneering social reformer and educator, understood the transformative power of education. She consistently emphasized that education should not only be about literacy but should also empower women to become agents of social change. Phule believed that true education would enable women to question and dismantle the structures of oppression that held them back. This paper will critically analyze the status of women in India, particularly Dalit women, through the lens of Savitri Bai Phule’s teachings. By utilizing secondary data, this study will explore how current policies fall short in realizing Phule’s vision of an empowered and socially conscious female populace, highlighting the need for a more inclusive and transformative approach to education for Dalit women.

Implementation of Green Health Care in Realizing Environmental Social Governance (ESG) in Health Services (Case Study at PHC Hospital Surabaya)
  • Jan 1, 2025
  • E3S Web of Conferences
  • Sri Roekminiati + 4 more

In the era of sustainability and corporate social responsibility, the implementation of the Environmental Social Governance (ESG) concept is becoming increasingly important for healthcare institutions, including hospitals. Hospitals have a significant impact on the environment through energy consumption, large water use, and medical waste generated. Therefore, the implementation of Green Healthcare (GHC) principles as part of the ESG framework is a strategic solution to reduce these ecological impacts while improving public health and social sustainability. This research focuses on a case study of the implementation of GHC at PHC Hospital Surabaya which involves a coastal reforestation program as an effort to conserve the environment and improve the quality of life of the surrounding community. The method used in this research is a qualitative approach through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis to gain a deep understanding of the implementation process, challenges, and outcomes of the reforestation program. The results show that the success of the program is greatly influenced by internal and external policy support, resource readiness, and effective communication between stakeholders. The coastal greening program not only improves air quality and the environmental conditions around the hospital, but also raises public awareness regarding the importance of environmental conservation and sustainable health. The implementation of GHC at PHC Hospital Surabaya shows that environmentally friendly practices such as safe medical waste management, water conservation, the use of renewable energy sources, and planting green vegetation can support the sustainability of hospital operations. In addition to the ecological aspect, this program also strengthens the social aspect by improving the comfort and quality of life of the surrounding community and building a positive image of the institution. The application of ESG principles through GHC creates a hospital ecosystem that is not only focused on medical services, but also as an agent of social change and environmental conservation that can provide long-term benefits. In conclusion, the integration of GHC and ESG in hospitals is a strategic step that can improve operational efficiency and sustainability, strengthen social positions, and raise awareness of the importance of environmental sustainability in the healthcare sector. The success of the case study at PHC Hospital Surabaya is the best model in integrating environmental and social aspects in healthcare services, and makes a positive contribution to sustainable development.

Designing and Validating a Comprehensive Institution-Wide DEI Needs Assessment
  • Jan 1, 2025
  • Issues in Informing Science and Information Technology
  • Nicole A Buzzetto-Hollywood + 1 more

Aim/Purpose Institutions with a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) must evaluate their praxes for equity, recognizing that campuses must be inclusive communities that celebrate diversity. Further, teaching and learning experiences should provide mirrors, windows, and doors, have cultural validity, afford multiple mechanisms for student success, be centered around the assets of students, build knowledge, extend perspectives, and foster empathy. Background A state university system, located in the mid-Atlantic region of the United States, has a strategic plan that prioritizes diversity, equity, and inclusion with goals that include the conduct of research on DEI, promoting best practices to enhance inclusion and endorse equity, and nurturing DEI education that encourages students to be informed and engaged citizens and social change agents in our democracy. A minority-serving institution located in this system has also prioritized justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) with activities that include evaluating and assessing current programming and services; introducing a JEDI institutional learning goal and supporting general education requirement; using surveys to measure faculty, student, and staff perceptions; and exploring culturally responsive practices throughout teaching and learning. Accordingly, in 2024, a quality improvement project was proposed that involves the development, delivery, and reporting of a comprehensive JEDI needs assessment of the community using a mixed methods approach. Methodology This paper outlines the process by which a mid-Atlantic HBCU has engaged in a comprehensive JEDI needs assessment. More specifically, thirteen specific steps are discussed: 1. Identification of goals 2. Establishment of research questions 3. Review of literature and existing tools 4. Consultation with experts 5. Identification of Methodology 6. Preparation of draft instruments 7. Check of readability and face validity 8. Expert panel review 9. Institutional Review Board review and approval 10. Pilot study 11. Distribution and data collection 12. Analysis and reporting of findings 13. Internal validity testing and use of results Contribution The instruments prepared as a result of this endeavor are shared in this paper and are available for adoption and customization with approval and attribution. Findings The surveys were closed in December of 2024. Internal validity testing was conducted via the application of Cronbach’s alpha. The Cronbach’s alpha analysis results indicated high internal consistency and reliability. Recommendations for Researchers It is hoped that by sharing processes and instrumentation, more institutions will decide to engage in similar comprehensive climate studies. Impact on Society It is the goal of the authors that this paper contributes to the body of literature on DEI in higher education. Future Research The survey results will be reported and included in a future paper, and the information gathered will be used to inform qualitative assessment measures.

A critical discourse analysis of the role of influencers in driving social change through Indonesian Youtube content
  • Dec 31, 2024
  • International Journal of Communication and Society
  • Freddy Yusanto + 1 more

Communication mediated by social media presents content creators who have many followers who are then often called influencers. This study seeks to analyze the contributions of influencers who should act and be responsible as individuals who can convey public opinion through digital platforms. The researcher uses a qualitative research method with a critical discourse analysis approach to dismantle and reveal how influencers are strongly committed to spreading positive discourse as a form of responsibility as part of social change agents in the digital world. The object of the study is YouTube content from the accounts of Ria Ricis, Atta Halilintar, and Frost Diamond, which represent significant influencers in Indonesia. Researchers found that three significant influencers in Indonesia have not been able to carry out their duties as agents of social change. There are three reasons why influencers in this study are unable to carry out their duties and responsibilities as social change agents, namely the absence of a clear definition of the role of influencers as social change agents, the lack of understanding of influencers regarding their social responsibilities as social change agents, and the absence of an operational model that explains the concrete steps taken by influencers as effective social agents. This study provides recommendations on the duties and responsibilities of influencers as agents of social change in a model that the researcher calls the Content Development Model. This model consists of four main stages at the concept level (Input, Process, Output, and Outcome) and six execution stages at the technical level (Content Created, Interaction Distribution, Formation of Discourse, Change in Attitude and Behaviour, Collective Action and Social Change). This Content Development Model explains how influencers must produce content by considering positive social issues as agents of social change in society.

  • Dec 31, 2024
  • International Journal of Nusantara Islam
  • Muhammad Zulfikar Yusuf + 3 more

Indonesia is unique because of its pluralistic and diverse character. This uniqueness can certainly produce conflict between communities if not managed well. One cause of this is radicalism and intolerance. Moreover, there has been an increase in the number of digital media users in Indonesia, which has the potential to become an arena for contesting various ideologies, including extreme ones. Therefore, a country with religious and cultural diversity requires a religious moderation approach to overcome radicalism and intolerance. This study aims to provide an overview of the role of Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama in promoting religious moderation on social media. The research method used was descriptive qualitative with descriptive analysis that uses secondary data from various scientific literature sources such as journals, books, official reports, and social media content. Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama were chosen because they are the most prominent Islamic organisations in Indonesia and significantly influence religious life. Content analysis was used in this study. This research shows that religious organisations such as Muhammadiyah and Nahdlatul Ulama play an important role in efforts to ground the religious moderation movement in Indonesia, especially in the context of digital media. Islam Berkemajuan and Islam Nusantara are views initiated by these two organizations to foster religious moderation in society. These two organisations use digital platforms to spread religious messages that emphasise tolerance, harmony, and respect for diversity. The implication of this research is that the presence of Muhammadiyah and NU on social media is strategic in shaping public opinion and expanding the understanding of religion. By using digital media, these two organisations are disseminators of moderate religious teachings and agents of social change that can reduce extremism

Kiai, Religious Authority, and Dynamics of Ngumbah Keris Tradition in Java, Indonesia
  • Dec 31, 2024
  • Fikri : Jurnal Kajian Agama, Sosial dan Budaya
  • Faline Izza Nisa`U + 1 more

The ngumbah keris tradition is recognized as a practice aimed at warding off bad luck through a series of specific rituals that incorporate mantras and offerings. This study explores the responses of kiai langgar to the ngumbah keris ritual using ethnographic methodology. Data were collected through purposive sampling, in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation. The analysis adhered to Miles and Huberman's interactive model, which encompasses data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, supplemented by triangulation to ensure both validity and reliability. Max Weber's theory of charismatic authority provided the theoretical framework for this study, which is crucial for understanding how kiai langgar exercise their authority to mediate between traditional practices and religious principles. This framework highlights a dualistic response: kiai langgar aligned with Nahdlatul Ulama view the ritual as a means of seeking divine blessings, provided it is in accordance with Islamic teachings. In contrast, kiai langgar associated with Muhammadiyah classify the ritual as bid'ah (innovation) and superstition. The findings indicate that the negotiation of religious and cultural values is significantly shaped by the charismatic authority of the kiai langgar, influencing community perceptions and practices. This study deepens the understanding of the complex interplay between traditional rituals and Islamic teachings within rural Javanese communities, underscoring the role of kiai langgar as cultural brokers and agents of social change.

This research delves into the study of a Qur'anic exegesis that marks a milestone in the renewal of interpretive traditions in early 20th-century Indonesia. Through a qualitative descriptive-analytical approach, this study examines A. Hassan's innovative methodology that integrates the concise and analytical methods of interpretation, with an emphasis on social context and rationality. The main focus of the research is to analyze the uniqueness of A. Hassan's approach in interpreting the Qur'an and to explore his role as a reformer in the Malay-Nusantara exegetical tradition. A literature study was used for data collection, while Fazlur Rahman's theory of modern Islamization was applied to understand the responsiveness to contemporary societal issues. This study also investigates the impact of using the Indonesian language and Latin script, which significantly increased the accessibility of Qur'anic interpretation in Indonesia. Furthermore, the study examines the work's contribution in stimulating the renewal of religious thought and fostering the spirit among Indonesian Muslims. The research findings reveal that is not merely a theological exegetical work, but also functions as a crucial agent of social and intellectual change in the Islamic reform movement in Indonesia at the beginning of the 20th century. This work bridges the gap between classical traditions and the demands of modernity, paving the way for a more contextual and relevant interpretation of the Qur'an for Indonesian society.

  • Dwi Nugroho + 2 more

Abstract In recent decades, young people's political participation has emerged as a significant topic of political debate, given their role as agents of future social and political change. Many political actors conduct practical politics in a variety of ways to mobilize young people's choices. This research intends to explore young people's interest in political ideas that can cater to future requirements. This study used a hybrid method (quantitative and qualitative), combining survey data from 130 respondents, (samples were determined using the Lemeshow formula) and in-depth interviews with 12 Muslim and 3 non-Muslim. This study focuses on the perspectives of vulnerable young students aged 17 to 20 as first-time voters in Metro-Lampung. This study reveal that education and gender issues had a positive and significant influence on political interest of young people more than economic issues which many politicians campaign for public. It has been qualitatively proven that youths, both Muslims and non-Muslims, have a proclivity for gender and educational issues in making political choices. These findings imply that political ideas that are in line with the needs of young people and are a response to problems developing in society can influence youth political interest.

Introduction: In the age of digital transformation, the role of vloggers in shaping and communicating cultural values has become increasingly significant. This paper explores how vloggers navigate the complexities of cultural representation in the era of disruption, characterized by rapid technological advancements, shifting social dynamics, and global interconnectedness. It emphasizes the role of vloggers as both creators and influencers, who, through their personal stories and interactions with their audiences, contribute to the evolving discourse on cultural values, particularly in relation to issues such as authenticity, diversity, and social change. Methods: The study utilized a constructivism paradigm with a phenomenological approach to popular vloggers in Indonesia. Data collection techniques: in-depth interviews, observation, literature studies, and triangulation of data sources. The validity of the qualitative research data was determined through credibility, transferability, dependability, and confirmability. Findings: Communicating the cultural values play a crucial role in intercultural communication, as they are deeply connected to personal beliefs and ways of living. Understanding and acknowledging these personal values are essential for successful communication, especially when individuals come from different cultural backgrounds. Failure to recognize and respect these differences in values can lead to significant challenges in communication and understanding. Originality: The study highlights the emerging role of vloggers as cultural architects, rather than merely content creators, they are not passive communicators but an active agent of social change. Many vloggers use their platforms to advocate for social justice, equality, demonstrating how vloggers contribute to societal shifts and cultural reimagination.

Editorial: Critical Pedagogy in Literary Education: Reading the Word to read the World
  • Dec 30, 2024
  • Journal of Literary Education
  • Xavier Mínguez-López + 1 more

The current special issue of JLE embodies Freire’s goal of literacy/literary education: reading the word to read the world. The cornerstone of Critical Pedagogy lies undoubtedly in Paulo Freire’s seminal work, Pedagogy of the Oppressed. (Pedagogia do Oprimido, 1968). Freire critiques traditional education models, which he terms the "banking model," in which teachers deposit knowledge into passive students. He advocates for a dialogic approach that transforms education into a collaborative process of inquiry. Freire’s methods emphasize critical consciousness (conscientização), urging learners to question societal structures and their own roles within them. Aiming to empower minds through dialogue and reflection, Critical Pedagogy sees literature as more than an artistic endeavor; it is a medium through which societies interrogate their values, challenge injustices, and envision alternate realities. In the realm of education, how literature is taught can either reinforce systems of oppression or act as a transformative tool for liberation. Critical Pedagogy provides a compelling framework for rethinking literary education. This approach not only democratizes the classroom but also empowers students to become agents of social change.

  • Syenitesalonika H.C Boimau + 1 more

Structural poverty, which is a form of poverty due to social injustice, is currently a growing phenomenon in our lives. Social injustice in the form of oppression, colonization, and domination of stronger groups against weaker groups is an issue of concern. It is in this context that the church is present in the world, which means that it is also in the midst of this problem of structural poverty. As an institution with the mission of bringing peace to the Kingdom of God, the church must not ignore the phenomenon of poverty. The church must act and take an attitude in accordance with its mission to deal with this alarming situation. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the role of the church as an agent of social change in favor of poverty in order to achieve the welfare of the people. The tool used to demonstrate the church's role in overcoming this poverty is Jeremiah 29: 7. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method, with the approach of literature and exegesis of textual criticism of Jeremiah 29: 7. The conclusion of this study shows that with a true and deep understanding of Jeremiah 29: 7, the church can develop a real strategy to realize the welfare of the people, so that the church is always on the side of supporting poverty.

  • Chen Kung Huang

In an era of growing emphasis on sustainable development and the social responsibility of higher education, universities are increasingly seeking innovative ways to integrate learning with community engagement. This study aims to integrate University Social Responsibility (USR) with general education through micro-courses focused on Community-Based Tourism (CBT) within a Participatory Action Research (PAR) framework. A research team from National Chiayi University collaborated closely with the Haomei community in Taiwan over a two-year period to co-develop courses covering religious traditions, industrial culture, historical heritage, and ecological conservation. These courses provided students with immersive, hands-on learning experiences. A total of 78 students from 28 academic disciplines participated, enhancing their sense of social responsibility and community engagement. The findings reveal five key factors essential for successful university-community collaboration: trust building, shared objectives, continuous communication, resource sharing, and adaptability. The study demonstrates that integrating USR with innovative educational practices can drive universities to become agents of social change. This model not only strengthens student learning and engagement but also promotes sustainable community development, offering a valuable framework for higher education institutions worldwide. Keywords: university social responsibility, community-based tourism, participatory action research, general education, university-community collaboration

Understanding the influence of individual level factors of Anganwadi workers on service delivery under the Integrated Child Development Service scheme
  • Dec 30, 2024
  • International Journal Of Community Medicine And Public Health
  • Sajini B Nair + 1 more

Background: Anganwadi workers (AWW) of the Integrated Child Development Service (ICDS) Scheme are the agents of social change, mobilizing community support for better care and continuously addressing malnutrition among young children. The influence of individual background characteristics of AWWs on uptake of service delivery is rarely examined and forms the subject of inquiry. Methods: Data used pertain to information on 349 Anganwadi centres (AWCs) in 11 Indian states collected for a study on ICDS during 2021-22. Multivariate statistical methods were employed to derive the findings using SPSS version 20. Results: AWWs age, work experience, trainings received, residence in proximity to AWCs varies across districts under study. The mean number of services rendered of 11.9 out of the 14 types of services provided through AWCs indicate the overall competency of AWWs in rendering services. Sagar (MP), Solan (HP) and Dharwad (Karnataka) districts fall short of rendering complete services. Regression analysis indicate that presence of AWWs in their 50+ years in AWCs, greater experience of AWWs, increase in capacity building of AWWs and higher education levels strongly determine uptake of more services. Conclusions: ICT intervention entails digital literacy to implement programmes and web-based monitoring for better nutritional outcomes require better competency for AWWs. To cater to the changing needs perhaps a review of the guidelines on educational level of AWWs for recruitment and revamping the training programmes by focussing on skill-based training for AWWs to unlock the full potential of ICDS scheme workforce may be attempted.
