Abstract
The extraction of silver by sulfur containing macrocyclic compounds 1,4,8,11-tetrathiacyclotetradecane (TTP) and 1,4,8,11,15,18,22,25-octathiacyclooctacosane (OTO) dissolved in nitrobenzene, from chloride and perchlorate solutions has been studied. Thermodynamic data on complex formation by silver with polythiaethers, as well as ion pair formation in the organic phase, have been obtained. In the organic phase the ionic species AgL + and AgL 2 + (L = TTP; OTO) are proposed. Equilibrium constants have been calculated. Solid silver perchlorate complexes of the polythiaethers have been prepared and characterized. With TTP as a ligand two types of complexes have been isolated: [Ag(TTP)]ClO 4 and [Ag 2(TTP)][ClO 4] 2. With OTO as a ligand only [Ag(OTO)]ClO 4 has been prepared.
