Abstract

Macrocyclic polythiaethers 1,4,8,11-tetrathiacyclotetradecane (TTP) and 1,4,7,10,13,16-hexathiacyclooctadecane (HTO) have been used for mercury(II) and silver(I) picrate extraction and complex formation studies. The equilibrium constants which characterize the extraction and ionization of complexes have been calculated. The extraction mechanism has been discussed. The complexes Ag(TTP)Pic, Ag 2(TTP)Pic 2, Ag(HTO)Pic, Ag 2(HTO)Pic 2, Ag 3(HTO)Pic 3, Hg(TTP)Pic 2 and Hg(HTO)Pic 2 have been isolated and characterized. On the basis of the elemental analyses, conductivity measurements, equilibrium constants and IR spectra the mode of coordination has been proposed.
