Abstract

Tetradentate and octadentate sulfur containing macrocyclic polythiaethers 1,4,8,11-tetrathiacyclotetradecane (TTP) and 1,4,8,11,15,18,22,25-octathiacyclooctacosane (OTO) have been used for mercury(II) extraction from chloride and perchlorate solutions. HgCl 2L and ionic HgL 2+ complexes form in the organic phase (L = TTP or OTO respectively). The equilibrium constants which characterize the extraction were calculated. The complexes Hg(TTP)Cl 2, Hg 2(TTP)Cl 4·4 H 2O, [Hg(TTP)](ClO 4) 2·2 H 2O, [Hg(OTO)](ClO 4) 2·2 H 2O and Hg 4(OTO)Cl 8·4 H 2O have been prepared and characterized. IR and Raman spectra have been recorded, the characteristic frequencies of the vibrations ClHgCl, SHgS and CSC have been assigned.
