Abstract

The low temperature (2–70 K) magnetic properties of polycrystalline Co(DPM) 2 (HDPM=2,2,6,6-tetramethylheptan-3,5-dione) and Fe(acac) 2 (Hacac = pentan-2,4-dione) are reported. The zero-field splitting parameter of the 4 A 2-ground state of Co(DPM) 2 is ± 16 cm −1. The temperature dependent magnetic moment of Fe(acac) 2 can be explained quite well using the T 2 g ligand field ground term model with λ= −79 cm −1 and Δ =−2300 cm −1. Any magnetic interaction between the iron atoms, which might be anticipated from the structure, is magnetically insignificant above 4 K.
