Abstract

This chapter presents the analyses of the study. The first analysis concerns the growth from populations 1 to 2 and from populations 2 to 3 in the different countries. Comber and Keeves presented growth data and their figures from the first science study became one of the most quoted figures in international educational research. The second analysis concerns sex differences in science achievement, to the extent that they exist, and whether the differences increase from population level to population level. The third analysis concerns relationships between curriculum indices and achievement. The fourth analysis involves relationships between achievement at the terminal grades of secondary school and the percentage of the grade cohort in school. The word “growth” is used in this context to denote the increase in achievement from one level in a school system to another.
