Abstract

Population 3 is split into two groups: (1) the group of students who are studying biology, chemistry, or physics—these sub groups are known as populations 3B, 3C, and 3P respectively; and (2) population 3N consisting of the students who are not studying science in the terminal grade. This chapter presents data that includes: the achievement scores of each of the four sub groups on the core test, the only test that was taken by all groups. It also includes the test scores on the biology test for the students who are studying biology, on the chemistry test for the students who are studying chemistry, on the physics test for the students who are studying physics, and on a special non-science test for the students who are not studying science. In the science students' results, there are considerable differences. Several countries have high proportions of schools scoring lower than the lowest scoring schools in the highest scoring countries.
