Abstract

Several technologies are available for the fabrication of microneedles. These include laser micromachining, electro-drawing, thermal drawing, photolithography, magnetorheological drawing lithography, micromolding, micro-injection compression molding, droplet-born air blowing, drawing lithography, 3D printing and layer-by-layer assembly. The fabrication of microneedles is challenging because of the high aspect ratio as well as the three-dimensional (3D) conical geometry of these devices. However, several research groups have developed manufacturing methods to overcome these challenges. This chapter focuses on recent advances in microneedle fabrication technologies.
