A Study of the Current Status and Future Directions of Korean Popular Culture Education in Korean Textbooks

Abstract

본고에서는 한국어 교재를 분석하여 국내 대중문화 교육의 현황을 파악하고 향 후 대중문화 교육이 나아갈 방향성을 귀납적으로 검토하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 네 개 대학의 한국어 교육 교재를 선정하여 대중문화 교육 내용을 분석하였고, 다음과 같은 결과를 발견할 수 있었다. 첫째로, 문화 항목으로 제시된 대중문화 내용은 극히 일부에 불과하다. 둘째, 문화 항목으로 다루어진 대중문화 내용과 방식이 언어 교육을 위한 자료로 활용된 경우보다 미흡하다. 셋째, 대중문화와 관련된 내용은 대체로 중급 이상의 단계에서 제시되기 시작한다. 넷째, 몇 가지의 대중문화 분야가 다른 분야에 비해 더 많이 활용된다. 다섯째, 다양한 실제 콘텐츠의 활용 및 콘텐츠와 학습 활동의 연관성이 유의미할 것이다. 선행 연구와 교재 분석의 결과를 바탕으로 본고에서 제시한 대중문화 교육의 방향성을 정리하면 다음과 같다. 먼저, 대중문화를 교육적으로 다루는 방식에 대한 본격적 연구가 시작되어야 할 것이다. 둘째로, 대중문화를 언어 교육에 종속시키지 않고, 대중문화 자체를 교육 대상으로 삼는 독립된 대중문화 교육 과정이 필요할 것이다. 셋째, 교육 자료로서의 대중문화 콘텐츠를 기준을 가지고 선별해야 할 것이다. 본고에서는 교재 분석을 통해 현행되는 대중문화 교육의 모습을 면밀히 검토하고자 하였다. 향후 계속적인 연구를 통해 바람직한 대중문화 교육의 모습을 찾아가야 할 것이다.The purpose of this study is to analyze Korean language textbooks, to grasp the current status of Korean popular culture education, and to inductively examine future directions for popular culture education. Korean textbooks from four universities were selected to analyze popular culture education contents, with the following results. First, there is a lack of popular culture content presented as cultural education. Second, a lower level of popular culture content and methods is addressed in cultural education, compared to materials used in language education. Third, contents related to popular culture generally begin to be presented at intermediate or higher levels. Fourth, some popular culture fields are employed more than others. Fifth, the relationship between content and learning activities is significant, as well as the use of various actual content. Based on the results of previous studies and textbook analysis, directions for popular culture education presented in this study are as follows. First, a full-fledged study of how to address popular culture in education should begin. Second, an independent popular culture curriculum that targets popular culture itself and does not subordinate it to language education is needed. Third, popular culture content as educational material should be selected based on set criteria. It is necessary to determine the desired form of popular culture education through continuous research in future.
