Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explore the possibility of utilizing classical literature as a cultural archetype, focusing on the Chinese short-form animation series “A New Account of Tales of the World(世說新語).” To this end, the overall characteristics of representative Chinese cultural contents using classical literature were reviewed. In addition, we tried to find a trans-media storytelling method that can be applied in Korea by analyzing success stories through the narrative of “A New Account of Tales of the World” and media utilization strategies. In particular, Tencent's all-round multimedia platform strategy brought critical and public response to the short-form animation series. This work can be said to be an excellent success story in attempting various reinterpretations and recreations for a successful transition to a multimedia platform while inheriting and preserving the original value of classical literature.
