Abstract

Electronic communication, the language, tones, and word usage, can be curt and impersonal. When communicating heavily by correspondence, misinterpreted or unintentional emails might result in conflict. In addition, individuals exhibiting introversion, extraversion, sensing, or other types of personality trait, impact group dynamics and engagement. Online classes are the instructional strategy for transforming written communication. Text messages, emails, and instant messages are not the most formal ways of communication in the technical era. The abbreviated responses and shortcuts to communication have an impact on academic and formal writing. This chapter explains the importance of students transforming their language to a more professional and academic quality, and has activities for students to engage in to transform their communication styles. Conflict styles are also introduced that usually manifest as a result of miscommunication. Students will review information about multicultural education in the online classroom. This chapter concludes with information about individual personality styles, providing insight into ethical behaviour.
