Abstract

Moral dilemmas are ethical quandaries that present challenges as to which decision to make at any given moment. For the electronic classroom, the moral dilemma could very well involve other students. Having uncompromising values, being mindful of the reasons for meeting the goal, and eliminating some of the excuses that could stifle the goal process are ideal strategies to reduce moral dilemmas. Students are introduced to the concept of self-efficacy, which includes having a sense of the variables and decisions that they can control in their lives. If there is a strong sense of self-efficacy, moral dilemmas in the electronic classroom will not be a huge factor. If there is a wavering or poor disposition of self-efficacy, moral dilemmas can be overwhelming. Students will assess moral dilemmas that could occur in the online environment and decide on possible actions due to their sense of self-efficacy by completing activities. This chapter concludes with a review of students’ perspectives about ethics, moral dilemmas, and reasons for missed work (excuses) in the online classroom.
