Action learning and public health pedagogy: Student reflections from an experiential public health course.

Applied practice experiences are essential components of the Masters of Public Health (MPH) curriculum. The objective of this study was to examine students' perspectives on the skills and expertise they developed in an MPH course offering applied practice opportunities. Of 236 students who took the course from 2008 to 2018, email addresses were obtained for 212 and 104 completed the consent form. Following consent, reflection essays were de-identified and analyzed using a rapid qualitative analysis approach. The essays addressed students' learning experiences and application of the competencies for MPH programs set by the Council for Education in Public Health (CEPH). Deductive and inductive analytical lenses were used to identify the key lessons learned by each cohort of students. Semi-structured guides and matrixes for essay analysis were created using assignment instructions and CEPH competencies. Although the reflection paper assignment varied across the years, commonalities were observed in the student reflections. Key themes included turning theory into practice, navigating the complex environment of public health practice, skill building, critical self-reflection, challenges encountered, and elements that facilitated project success. Students reported developing practical skills, such as planning for independent research (e.g., preparing for institutional review board (IRB) submission, consulting with faculty and other experts), identifying realistic approaches for data extraction during chart reviews and analyses of electronic medical records, and disseminating findings for diverse stakeholders and audiences. Students also reported strengthening cross-cutting skills such as communication, teamwork, and problem-solving that were useful for navigating power dynamics and balancing competing interests and expectations. Students explored their identity as public health professionals as they navigated the dynamics of public health practice. The applied practice experience served as a valuable tool for knowledge and skills acquisition. Moreover, it served as an opportunity for students to engage with the unique organizational cultures of their respective community partners and to deepen their understanding the complexities of conducting meaningful community-engaged research. This study demonstrates the utility of analyzing students' critical self-reflections as a tool for exploring learning experiences when training future public health professionals. The findings can help educators design future applied practice experiences.

Enhancing adaptive learning: leveraging interactive exercises through the LearningApps service

The article explores the potential of adaptive learning systems in promoting optimal intellectual development for individual students based on their natural abilities and inclinations. It examines the key benefits of incorporating interactive exercises into educational activities through the utilization of the LearningApps service’s technical capabilities. The paper showcases how this service can be effectively employed to implement a personalized approach to education. Furthermore, it presents the empirical findings from a study that investigated the integration of the LearningApps service in the educational process of first-year students studying psychological disciplines. The statistical data obtained from the study demonstrates the effectiveness and relevance of using the LearningApps service in enhancing the motivational component of professional training for future professionals within the context of adaptive learning.

The Interest Shown by Potential Young Entrepreneurs in Romania Regarding Feasible Funding Sources, in the Context of a Sustainable Entrepreneurial Education

Among the most important factors that favor the development of a sustainable business environment are the sources of financing and the skills developed by the higher education system, according to recent studies. To align with these, several universities have started providing entrepreneurship knowledge. Are these sufficiently well-known by the students in Romania? The current paper aims to carry out an in-depth analysis of concepts. The primary objective of this study is to explore the most relevant sources of entrepreneurial financing in the context of a sustainable entrepreneurial higher education. For such an endeavor, quantitative research was conducted, being designed and distributed through a questionnaire. Data were collected from a sample of 285 students of Transilvania University in Brasov interested in entrepreneurship. Results indicate that the main sources of entrepreneurial financing are retained earnings/profit, personal sources, supplier credits, European funds, loans (bank credits), leasing, and business angels. Evidence shows that most respondents assert great confidence in European funds. Notably, the entrepreneurial qualities of the founder are one of the enablers of a successful and sustainable business. Additionally, this research opens new ways of collaboration between the academic and the business environment to better train future professionals in the economic field.

Anticipating Future Needs in Key Competences for Sustainability in Two Distance Learning Universities of Spain and Portugal

The current eco-social crisis includes global challenges such as climate change, environmental degradation and demographic shifts that call for a global response. The European Environment Agency claims that over the next decade, very different answers will be needed to the world’s challenges than the ones provided over the past 40 years to confront the foreseeable global changes. Higher Education Institutions have their own responsibility in training future professionals in cross-cutting key competences for sustainability, which are defined through different frameworks. Considering that current students will need to overcome global challenges, this research aims to identify the ways in which Higher Education Institutions are anticipating the introduction of key competences for sustainability into the curricula of their programs. Specifically, it aims to detect the perception of the heads of three departments and three faculties of two universities in Spain and Portugal about the presence of key competences for sustainability in the selected degrees. For this study, a qualitative research approach was employed. The methodology used involved the application of interviews to departments and faculties heads. The results showed there is a growing interest in sustainability at Higher Education Institutions, but key competences for sustainability were not yet sufficiently valued as competences needed for the students in the future, in particular those linked with the professional world. Further similar research could be conducted at other levels (master’s degree, doctorate).

DEVELOPMENT OF PEDAGOGICAL CULTURE IN THE PREPARATION OF A FUTURE SPECIALIST IN BANKING SERVICES

The purpose of the study is to determine the key ways of developing a pedagogical culture in the preparation of a future specialist in banking services. The object of research is pedagogical culture. The importance of studying the problems of the development of pedagogical culture in the preparation of a future specialist in banking services is proved. The main focus is on training future banking professionals. The main objective of the article is to model the stages of the development of pedagogical culture in the preparation of a future specialist in banking services. The basis of the methodology is modelling methods. Thus, the proposed multi-stage functional model of pedagogical culture in the preparation of a future specialist in banking services should be considered a novelty. Presented own representation of the main stages of development of pedagogical culture in the preparation of a future specialist in banking services. In the final case, it was found that the key stage in the development of pedagogical culture in the preparation of a future specialist in banking services is the expansion of practical aspects. It has been determined that one of the best methods for the development of pedagogical culture in the preparation of a future specialist in banking services can be the involvement of banking institutions in the educational process to expand the cultural aspects of pedagogy. The limitations of the study are that it does not take into account all aspects of pedagogical culture.

Bonding experiences in times of pandemic

The university bonding is very important within the integration of education and society, since it allows interaction between science and the common citizen, in addition to training future professionals with civic awareness, entering them into the social experience as workers. On the other hand, the role of virtual tutorials has come to occupy an important role within the modalities of education and an indispensable tool that allows knowledge to be built through participant leader interaction with the support of information technologies. The objective of this research is to identify the incidence of virtual math tutorials on the calcifications average of public education students in high school. One of the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic was the fact that not all students had the tools to access their virtual classes, and those who did have access were not adapted to this modality; this led to the creation of knowledge gaps, especially in practical subjects such as mathematics. The results indicate that there was a positive impact on the grade point averages showing an increase in them, so it is concluded that it is very important to identify those subjects that merit accompaniment, and through the implementation of virtual tutors, guide students in the process teaching and learning, especially in practical subjects to improve school performance.

The pandemic as an opportunity for learning and improving the students' reflective learning strategies in the field of social work. Reflections based on an Italian case study

ABSTRACT The Covid-19 pandemic has been an important challenge for the training of students of university social service courses, especially with regard to internship activities. The need to define quality training projects, even during a pandemic, has given rise to numerous forms of experimentation and innovation in universities around the world, many of which have proved useful and effective in ensuring high levels of training during the health emergency. Now that the most critical phase of the pandemic seems to be behind us, it is important to reflect on how the new, reflective attitude toward the practical training of future professionals and the activities of the last two years, can become part of the knowledge in the field of practical training of future social workers, even in a non-emergency scenario. This article offers some reflections on the critical issues, resources, and new opportunities that arose concerning practical training, in particular on how the students’ reflective learning strategies in their approach to social work during the Covid-19 pandemic could be improved, starting with the results of research carried out in Italy, during the Degree Course in Social Sciences and Social Services at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. The research, conducted through the combination of a survey and some qualitative research tools, involved university internship tutors, supervising social workers at social service institutions in the area, and students who were confronted with the need for practical training during the pandemic.

Implementation of a digital health module for undergraduate medical students: A comparative study on knowledge and attitudes.

Digital competencies are more and more required in everyday work, and training future healthcare professionals in digital health is highly important. Aim of this study was to assess medical students' gain of knowledge by participation in a teaching module "Digital Health", and to evaluate their attitudes towards digital health and its role in medical education. Students of the module were asked to complete a questionnaire and a multiple-choice-test before and after completing the classes. Students of the same educational level in different modules served as reference group. 34 students took part (n= 17 "Digital Health group"; n= 17 "reference group"). There was no significant difference in pre-existing knowledge between the groups. After having completed the module, participants reached significantly higher scores, compared to their preexisting knowledge (p< 0.05) and the reference group (p< 0.05). Most students found that digital medicine is not sufficiently represented in undergraduate medical education, but will influence everyday work of physicians in the next five years. Students showed a high awareness for the impact of digital health on physicians' work. The results suggest that the format can sufficiently transfer knowledge about digital health. Teaching of digital knowledge and competencies should be firmly implemented into medical education to form digitally competent future doctors.

Obstetric simulation as a tool in the training of Family and Community Nursing residents

Introduction: The unplanned and out of hospital labor (birthing) is an obstetric emergency that causes a stressful situation and that can entail significant risks to the health of the mother and the newborn. Scientific evidence shows us that the effectiveness on the learning and the acquisition of skills are better performed when high-fidelity simulators are integrated into the training of future professionals. This activity requires knowledge and training from the instructors themselves who carry it out, and therefore represents a challenge for instructors in the training of this specialized nursing: the acquisition of a type of family and community nursing for emergency births outside the hospital. The main aim: to incorporate in the teachings of family and community nurses a specific learning process with a high-tech simulator for the care of unplanned family out-of-hospital births. Methodology: A simulation activity was performed in five scenarios outside of hospital with ten resident students in their second year using an obstetric simulator Victoria S2200. Two professionals undergoing training were involved in the scenarios during which the check list created for the activity is completed. An evaluation activity of the debriefing is performed in health (EDSS). Results and Discussion: 100% of the participants were satisfied with the activity. The performing instructor’s evaluation gives us feedback for the improvement of other future learning activities. As numerous studies show, the acquisition of the procedure via a simulator allows to the novel professional a high range of achievement and an improvement of competences.

Розвиток професійної компетентності майбутніх фахівців транспортних технологій на морському та річковому транспорті через професіогенез

The purpose of the article is to conduct research and analyze the issue of forming the social and psychological competence of future specialists in transportation technologies in the maritime and river transport industry. The overall goal of the study is to identify key aspects and factors that influence the process of applicants’ professional development and their readiness to perform professional duties in the modern conditions of transportation industry development. The article explores important aspects of training future specialists who will work in the field of transport technologies, in particular, in maritime and river transport. The author of the article analyzes the theoretical foundations of the formation of professionogenesis and socio-psychological competence of applicants aimed at creating a basis for the professional development of future specialists. In order to achieve this goal, the scholars have developed a methodology for organizing an experimental study that allowed to determine the level of readiness of applicants of higher and vocational education institutions to obtain technical education and form competencies for further professional growth in the transport industry. The study identified the key components that affect the readiness of applicants to work in the transport industry, in particular in the field of maritime and river transport. Practical recommendations for the implementation and improvement of the professional qualities of applicants in the field of preparation for professional activities in the transport industry, in particular in the water transport sector, are elaborated. The practical significance of the study lies in the fact that through this research, the scientific community has the opportunity to obtain new data regarding the formation of professionogenesis and professional growth of applicants specializing in transportation fields, particularly in maritime and river transport. The research findings can be used to improve educational programs and teaching methods aimed at providing more effective training for future professionals in the transportation industry. Overall, this article represents a significant contribution to the development of scientific thought in the field of professional preparation for future specialists in transportation technologies, and it also provides practical recommendations for their successful professional development in the transportation sector, fostering the further growth and enhancement of this industry.

Analysis of the feasibility of the axiomatic principles of statistical physics

Analyzing scientific works and researches in this article, we were convinced that today, in accordance with modern requirements, there is still a need to find a solution to the methodological features of teaching statistical physics in higher educational institutions, the methods and ways of organizing educational activities that form the interest of students. In order to realize the possibilities of statistical physics in higher educational institutions, the purpose, methods and content of teaching it as a subject should be interdisciplinary in accordance with the knowledge and skills of the student in special subjects. Therefore, in the creation of a methodological system of teaching statistical physics in a professional direction in higher education organizations, it is important to create opportunities for the development of visual intuitive foundations and practical orientation, to accept concepts, conclusions and problems related to the future profession of the learner with ways of thinking, while implementing interdisciplinary communication with special subjects. Thus, the contradiction between the need to teach statistical physics in a professional direction and its unsatisfactory solution in practice has become the reason for the relevance of the research topic. In order to train future professionals, the content of the statistical physics course should be selected in the direction of forming the methodological skills necessary for the future professional activities of the students. All of the above was the basis for choosing the research topic "Creating the interest of students by using innovative methods in the teaching of the statistical physics course" and determining its importance. The purpose of the work: to improve the teaching management system at different stages of the lesson, to strengthen the motivation to study, to increase the quality of education and training, to increase the level of preparation of students in the subject of statistical physics.

Is the SCRIPT an useful tool to assess clinical reasoning ability in medical students?

Background: Numerous investigations indicate that the way of evaluating knowledge exerts a substantial influence on the change in the learning styles of students. Both the training of future professionals and their evaluation must be considered as one of the fundamental pillars on which the teaching-learning process must be based. The valid and reliable evaluation of clinical reasoning during the medical training process is essential. Determining which assessment method is the most useful for assessing clinical reasoning ability in medical students is not an easy task. Methods: An explanatory, observational, cross-sectional study with a prospective approach will be carried out. A SCRIPT test will be carried out on the students of the last year of the Medicine career, in order to measure the reliability, validity, educational impact and acceptability of said method. Results: Evaluations were carried out on a total of 81 students.59.3% were women and 40.7% were men. The general average of all those surveyed, taking into account deferrals, is 7.41. After having uploaded the data obtained and giving the corresponding score to each answer, according to the value designated by the experts, we have obtained a Cronbach's Alpha of 0.33. Conclusion: The results obtained in this study, although the authors propose a minimum of 20 clinical vignettes, were not the expected. Both the utility and the reliability of the SCRIPT tests are not sufficient by themselves to allow a correct evaluation of clinical analysis in medical students. We believe it is necessary that clinical reasoning be evaluated in an integrated, longitudinal, and coherent manner, using multiple evaluation methods and periodic and constructive feedback.

Formação de Futuros Especialistas para a Atividade Profissional no Campo do Turismo Social na Ucrânia

The purpose of the study is to improve the training of future professionals for activities in the field of social tourism in Ukraine, which involves the development and experimental verification of its content and the necessary conditions for implementation. Formation of readiness of future specialists for professional activity in the field of social tourism was carried out on the basis of the developed model which is presented by social-determined, theoretical-methodological, project-organizational and diagnostic-effective components and connections among them defining semantic structure of this pedagogical process. The effectiveness of the model implementation was ensured by a set of such organizational and pedagogical conditions as: updating the content of professional training on the basis of integrative and meta-subject approaches; the focus of practical training on the gaining by future professionals of primary professional experience in the field of social tourism; creation of an environment of active social interaction in higher education institutions.

THEORETICAL FUNDAMENTALS OF TRAINING AS A SPECIAL FORM OF TEACHING FUTURE PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHERS

In recent years, scientists have paid much attention to the introduction of active forms of education in the training of future professionals, among which special emphasis is on training, which is becoming an integral part of the educational process in higher education. Training is now a universal method for many scientific fields, as it allows practicing scientists to quickly find solutions to many problems that are relevant today. Its importance lies in the effectiveness of solving problems related to the training of communication skills, the ability to control their emotions, knowledge and perception of their inner world, personal and professional growth. It is proved that today in the psychological and pedagogical literature training is one of the group forms of work on personal development, so the very concept of "training» combines many methods based on different theoretical foundations. Today, the concept of training does not have a single universal definition. The article analyzes the essence of the concept of training, clarifies the concept of training, which is defined as a specially organized form of educational process and the appropriate way to develop individual abilities to the educational process, during which it is mastered various activities, including professional. Interpretation of the concept of training was conducted through several paradigms, namely: training as a kind of «training»; training as a process of training, the result of which is the formation of skills and abilities of effective behavior of the individual; training as a form of active learning of the individual, the purpose of which is the transfer of psychological and pedagogical knowledge, as well as the development of certain skills and abilities; training as a method of creating conditions for self-disclosure of participants and their independent search for ways to solve their own psychological problems.

Diagnosis of Features of Creativity Development of Future Psychologists: Gender Aspect

The article examines the gender characteristics of the development of creativity in students of psychology who study at a higher education institution. In the process of research, it has been found out that the concept of "creativity" means the ability of a person to produce new and unusual ideas, think unconventionally, solve problems creatively and quickly. It has been found that creativity has many definitions, each researcher considers this concept from a certain point of view, highlighting one or another aspect of creativity. The article finds that students' creativity includes various indicators: originality, uniqueness, curiosity, developed imagination, propensity to reasonable risks, interest in complex things and ideas and more. Therefore, the authors of the article emphasize the need to use in the educational process of higher education methods that promote comprehensive training of future professionals and the development of their creative thinking. To study the gender features of the development of creativity in future psychologists, the authors of the article conducted an empirical study among students of psychology studying at Khmelnytskyi National University. According to the results of the study, it is established that most students of psychology have average levels of development of personal traits of creativity, creative abilities and creative potential. But girls studying in Psychology have a slightly better level of development of creative potential and creative abilities than boys who also study in this specialty. Based on the results of the research, recommendations for students-psychologists on the development of creativity as an important component of their successful future professional activity have been developed.

Expanding interprofessional teams: Training future health care professionals in screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment (SBIRT).

Substance misuse persists and is undertreated across the United States (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, 2021). Further enhancing the skill sets and capacity of interprofessional members of primary care teams to include proficiency in the Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) model could help to alleviate the "treatment gap" (those requiring treatment, but not receiving it) by enhancing interprofessional teams at the pregraduate level (e.g., health educators, health coaches) to expand capacity and meet the volume of patients with substance use-related needs. In this study, SBIRT knowledge, training satisfaction, and efficacy were evaluated among undergraduate and graduate health and behavioral health students before and after exposure to a series of online training modules. On completion of the training, there were positive percent increases in overall mean knowledge and self-efficacy when compared with pretraining. At posttraining, graduate level students, regardless of discipline, reported greater knowledge than undergraduate students; there were no differences in efficacy or satisfaction among the groups. Additional analysis at the graduate level evaluated differences between behavioral health and medical trainees. No differences were found in knowledge or efficacy between groups at posttest, despite medical trainees reporting significantly lower efficacy at pretest. The findings of this study reinforce the need and potential to incorporate SBIRT training into higher education curricula for interprofessional health care professions to begin expanding the integrated care team's knowledge and efficacy in the provision of SBIRT to address the treatment gap. Interprofessional Education and Research in the Health Professions: A Systematic Review and Supplementary Topic Modeling

Interprofessional education (IPE) has grown in popularity over the years because it is effective in training future health professionals and serves as the engine of productivity in healthcare-related research. The research team, consisting of higher education faculty in various health profession disciplines, conducted a systematic review of existent IPE literature targeting both graduate and under-graduate students. The main purpose of the systematic review was to categorize research and analyze IPE studies to determine sub-constructs that entail both barriers and facilitators often related to occurrences in primary provider, learner, and researcher IPE initiatives. If identified, IPE training and related curriculum plans were also analyzed in this review. The research team wanted to identify any/all potential instances of the use of research activities in coordination with IPE training to identify underlying constructs to support future college and program-specific andragogy initiatives. Review results demonstrate three categorical constructs related to IPE initiatives in higher education health professions programs (provider, learner, and researcher stakeholder perspectives). Results further demonstrate provider IPE challenges surrounding limited resources and a willingness to participate, while both patient experience and teamwork foci were identified as common IPE session themes. Further, the learners’ perspectives included a challenge related to a willingness to participate, as well as the patient experience focus. Review constructs were further validated using supplementary topic modeling. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study that combined systematic review with a supplementary topic modeling. Findings support ongoing pedagogy and research efforts related to IPE activities for health professions programs in higher education.

Attitude towards Older People According to Sociodemographic and Educational Variables in Students of a Chilean University.

Current evidence suggests that attitude towards older people may be associated with sociodemographic and educational variables; hence, a positive attitude towards older people is key when training new university professionals. However, there is little evidence of this association in Chilean university students. The objective was to analyze students from a Chilean university's attitudes towards older people, according to sociodemographic and educational variables. Analytical and cross-sectional study; 515 students from a Chilean university were consulted online about their attitude towards older people using Kogan's Attitudes towards Old People scale. Additionally, sociodemographic and educational variables were recorded. The average score for positive attitude was 70.8 (±9.7), while the negative attitude score was 68.3 (±11.6). The total score was 139.1 (±16.6). Mostly, university students perceive themselves with a low-level positive attitude (61.2%). Additionally, older university students (26-42 years old); women; Chileans; students of law, speech therapy, and occupational therapy; students in their final years of the programs; and those who had training in older people outside the university have a more positive attitude towards older people. In Conclusion, a profile of sociodemographic and educational characteristics of students with a lower and higher attitude towards older age was investigated. These results are relevant since the way of seeing the aging process could regulate the training of future professionals and consequently generate changes in dealing with older people. Young people's perception of ageing would affect the treatment and incorporation of the older people in society and the adaptation of policies in this age group.

The midwife's field of competence is related to women's sexual and reproductive health care from a holistic perspective, in which respect for women's autonomy is consubstantial to care and implies a deep involvement in the ethical and value-based training of future professionals. Likewise, achieving professional excellence implies the continuous evaluation of the training project, so that midwives acquire the necessary competencies to respond to the needs of a constantly changing society. In this sense, in recent years there have been voices critical of the current training model, initiating the necessary steps to implement the training of midwives as an independent University Degree.
