Se analiza la evaluación académica y científica universitaria a través de la teoría del valor marxista, como instrumento inscrito en la lógica del capitalismo cognitivo, el cual se define como una forma inédita de la economía, que ha puesto un mayor énfasis en la producción de bienes fundados en las disposiciones intelectuales, y que ha transformado las relaciones de los sujetos con el producto de su conocimiento. Retoma algunas aportaciones sobre el concepto de valor de Ernest Mandel, Antonio Negri y Bolívar Echeverría. Se consideran las categorías de valor de uso y valor de cambio del conocimiento, para diferenciar dos modos en los que esta condición se manifiesta en el ámbito universitario, así como algunas de sus implicaciones en la subjetividad de los docentes investigadores. Aborda críticamente las características sumativa, heterónoma, criterial, normativa, jerarquizadora y punitiva de la evaluación. Finalmente, se presentan de modo ilustrativo los modelos evaluativos del profesorado en la Universidad de Matanzas y la Universidad Autónoma de Ciudad Juárez.
