With the rapidly increasing fossil fuel exhausts and limited sources of energy available today, green energy production has become the quintessential need of the hour. This paper presents a detailed analysis of a power generating speed breaker that aims at producing electrical power using the weight and the momentum of the vehicles passing over it, thus conserving the otherwise 'wasted' energy. The design employs a strut for restoring the bump to its original position, a slider-crank mechanism for the conversion of reciprocating motion to rotary motion and a gear drive to transmit power. The analysis shows that 64.25 W of energy is produced taking 27.54 Passenger Car Units (PCU) per minute. The versatile and economical design of the speed breaker also makes it a viable option to install under railway tracks with slight modifications.
