Coproducing recovery with people affected by substance use and criminalization

Abstract This study details the coproduction approach taken by Red Rose Recovery (RRR), a non-profit organization that coproduces recovery systems with people affected by substance use and criminalization. RRR is ‘lived-experience-led’ in that those who manage and work for the organization use their own experiences of recovery or desistance from crime to provide inspiration and hope to others. We explored people’s experiences of working with RRR using a ‘photovoice’ research design, where people use cameras to document their realities. Data were analysed collaboratively, offering a depth of insight into the perspectives of people involved. The images and words produced by photographers illustrate this article and indicate that, in contexts of pain, shame, exclusion, and disconnection, coproduced services can offer valued relationships, community, and a sense of belonging within built and natural environments.

The Narrative Function of “Soundscape” in Eileen Chang’s Novels in the Auditory Narrative Perspective——Taking Red Rose and White Rose as an Example

Auditory narrative is the expression and writing related auditory perception in narrative works. Eileen Chang’s Novels embody rich sensory narratives and take the auditory soundscape as a typical narrative. Scholar Fu Xiuyan believes that auscultating the soundscape with auditory narrative theory can “re-listen” to the classics and achieve the purpose of admonishing the “deafness” of literary research. Based on the theory of “auditory narrative” proposed by Fu Xiuyan, this paper selects the soundscape in Eileen Chang’s typical novel Red Rose and White Rose to analyze, and further explores the relationship between Soundscape Construction and Character Creation, Soundscape Cutting and Story Building, as well as Soundscape Contrast and Aesthetic Embodiment, in order to further supplement and enrich the new issues in the new field of Eileen Chang studies.

Isolation and identification of postharvest pathogenic bacteria of nectarine and antibacterial test of essential oils

With 'Rose Red' nectarine as the test subject，postharvest pathogenic bacteria were isolated，purified，and identified. Their pathogenicity was determined using Koch's postulates，and the antibacterial activity of 28 types of plant essential oils against highly pathogenic bacteria was assessed.The results showed that a highly pathogenic pathogenic fungus TBZ1-9 was isolated and identified from peach fruits and had a high genetic relationship with Fusarium oxysporum. Among the 28 essential oils, mustard and Achyranthes essential oil (1000 μl/L) had the most significant antibacterial effect on strain TBZ1-9, with an antibacterial rate of 100%.500 μl/L Achyranthes essential oil had the best inhibitory effect on the TBZ1-9 strain, and the antibacterial rate was still >85% after 12 days of treatment. In summary, it was determined that the pathogen causing postharvest diseases of nectarines is Fusarium oxysporum, which is highly pathogenic. 500 μl/L Achyranthes essential oil has the best inhibitory effect on F. oxysporum.

Effect of Pruning Heights on Vegetative and Reproductive Response of Rosa Gruss-an-teplitz

Rosa Gruss-an-teplitz, belongs to Rosaceae family, commonly known as ‘Desi Rose’, is one of the beautiful red roses of the old garden rose section and produces flowers almost throughout the year. Roses are pruned regularly every year for regulating growth and flowering. This enhances the number, size, and quality of the flowers. Therefore, response of Gruss-an-teplitz to pruning heights at (Control, 01, 1.5, 02, 2.5, 03, 3.5 ft.), was evaluated in an experimental field. Pruning at 2.5 ft. had significant effects on studied parameters, including vegetative and reproductive plant growth, flower yield and gaseous exchange. This experiment was laid out under Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) using three replications per treatment. Pruning at (2.5 ft.) significantly improved growth, in terms of higher leaf area (129.55 cm2), plant height (77.01 cm), number of flowers (658.02), flower weight (4.51 g) and flower diameter (7.86 cm) with respect to other treatments. Chlorophyll a (1.57 mg/g), Chlorophyll b (2.73 mg/g), stomatal conductance (gs) (68.62) and photosynthetic rate (3.06) were also increased by pruning at (2.5 ft.). Pruning application at 2.5 ft. improved biomass, water preservation, pigments, enzymatic activity, leaf gaseous exchange, and flower yield of Gruss-an-teplitz.

Production of Anthocyanin-Rich Red Rose Petal Extract by Enzymatic Maceration

The use of enzymes to hydrolyze the plant cell matrix is a method known for extracting bioactive substances. The current work used this strategy to produce a rose petal extract rich in anthocyanins that is stable in the presence of marine polysaccharides and has a high antioxidant activity. The process evaluation was carried out sequentially, initially comparing water, ethanol, and their mixtures to anthocyanins extracted in the presence or absence of enzymes. Then, a multi-objective desirability function optimized experimental conditions such as solvent and enzyme concentrations. This study is the first report describing the use of a statistical tool, the central composite rotatable design (CCRD), to optimize anthocyanin extraction from rose petals. This method obtained a maximum extraction of 9.99 mg/g of phenols. The stability of the rose petal extract when using marine polysaccharides retained 60% of the anthocyanins over 28 days without deterioration when protected from sunlight but was practically degraded upon exposure to sunlight. The rose petal extract demonstrated a very high antioxidant capacity of 3.19 μg/mL, close to the literature data for citrus compounds, known to be high in antioxidant compounds for cosmetic food purposes.

Metaphor of Disease and Its Psychopathological Analysis in Eileen Chang's Novels

In modern Chinese novels, disease is a common theme, and different works also show different flavors. This paper mainly studies the metaphors behind the characters' diseases and the characters' morbid psychology in Eileen Chang's three representative works Flowers Wither, Golden Lock and Red Rose and White Roses. Through the research, the author can find that Eileen Chang's disease writing is related to her personal loveless family life experience, her love for tragic aesthetics and the aesthetic tendency of morbid things, and the popularity of medical treatment in society at that time. At the same time, this paper analyzes the cruel living situation of women revealed in the female diseases in his works. Whether it is arranged marriage or new-style marriage, women have lost the right to choice and autonomy in marriage, so the unhappiness of their marriage life is also the main reason for the disease. Finally, through the analysis of specific characters' diseases, the article shows the pathological psychological state of the characters' hearts under the disease in detail, and analyzes the relationship between them. Through the study, the author can find that the disease in Eileen Chang's works is not only as simple as the disease itself, but also shows a social style and the pathological state and psychology of the characters living in it.

Western Characters in Eileen Chang's 1940s Novels

The 1940s was the early stage of Eileen Changs creative career. During this period, she created many Western characters in her novels, especially seven works, namely Shame, Amah!, Cycle of Traps, When I was Young, Aloeswood Incense: The First Brazier, Aloeswood Incense: The Second Brazier,, Red Rose, White Rose, and The Creation of a Century. Adopting the theory of comparative literary figurativism and post-colonialism, this paper is based on these seven fictional texts involving Western characters and analyses them in terms of writing tendency, generative mechanism and double entailment. The study reveals that the Western characters in Eileen Changs novels show the characteristics of de-familiarisation and decolonisation in terms of writing tendency and are generated under the influence of Eileen Changs personal experience and collective imagination, of which the personal experience includes the living environment and reading experience. These exotic images have the double connotation of speaking of self and other, which can reflect the homogeneity of self and other and the dissimilarity with some post-colonial characteristics.

Formulation and Physical Quality Testing of Candles Combining Essential Oils of Red Roses (Rose Hybrid) and White Roses (Rose Alba) as Aromatherapy

Background: There are many aromatherapy options on the market, one of which is in the form of aromatherapy candles. Aromatherapy candles are made using several ingredients and use essential oils that have an aromatherapy scent, a combination of red rose and white rose essential oils. These essential oils are used not only for the treatment and prevention of disease, but also for their effects on mood, emotions, and a sense of well-being.
 Method: In this experimental study, a comparative test was carried out between 5 concentration variations of red rose and white rose essential oils with F1 = 1%:5% ; F2= 2%:4% ; F3= 3%:3% ; F4= 4%:2% ; and F5= 5%:1%, using the same basis. Then an evaluation was carried out by testing the physical quality of the candle aromatherapy preparations which included organoleptic tests, melting point tests, burn time tests, and hedonic tests. 
 Result: The organoleptic test on formulas 1 and 5 produced an even color, no cracks and a characteristic odor, but in formulas 2,3 and 4 the color was uneven and there were depressions. In the melting point test, all formulas are within the standard candle time range, namely 540C, the average burn time test is not more than 2 hours and the preference test is on formula 5.
 Conclusion: The final result is a formula that meets all testing standards, namely 5%:1% formula 5, in which the ratio of essential oils of red roses and white roses is and the ratio of paraffin and stearic acid is 54%:40%.

Stylistics Analysis of Robert Burns Poem A Red, Red Rose

In this study, researchers will stylistically analyze a well-known poem by Robert Burn A Red, Red Rose. This poem is considered a linguistic marvel, to examine this statement, the researcher analyses this poem to explore its linguistic importance. The objective of this study is to present a stylistic analysis of a poem that will be useful in deciphering the poem's underlying meanings. It unequivocally brings to light the poet's true message. The poem is analyzed in terms of stylistic foregrounding and by different levels of stylistic analyses proposed by Leech. Furthermore, it intends to investigate the effects that the use of figures of speech has on the minds of the readers. Robert Burn has used various literary devices and unique diction by incorporating the Scottish dialect and lexical deviation blending with the amazing theme of love and separation. The study is significant for students and literary critics interested in exploring Robert Burns works, highlighting the interdependence of literature and linguistics.

Transformational Games as a Tool for Developing Students' Effective Communication Skills

Purpose of the study. The skill of effective communication is not only the most important component in the activities of a qualified specialist, but also makes everyday communication more trusting, less aggressive and dependent. This is confirmed by the research of domestic and foreign scientists, business coach programs, and the practical work of coaching and consulting specialists. The purpose of our work is a theoretical and experimental study of the use of transformational games as a tool for developing students' effective communication skills. The article examines the skill of effective communication of students according to various criteria. The results of the application of the program for the development of effective communication skills of students using transformational games are shown. Methods. The methodology of «Diagnostics of communicative tolerance» by V. V. Boyko is designed to determine to what extent people are able to show tolerance to other people in business and interpersonal communication. The test «Communicative skills» of Mikhelson L. in the modification of Gilbukh Y.Z. we used to determine the level of communicative competence and the quality of formation of basic communicative skills. To study the ability to showempathy, the «Emotional Response Scale» technique is used (A. Mehrabyan, modification by N. Epstein). In the formative part of our work, we used transformational negotiation games «The Red Rose Effect. The best techniques of persuasion» and «Say NO». Results. it was revealed that a significant number of students have difficulties in managing emotions that negatively affect interpersonal communication. Testing showed that the majority of students have an average level of general communicative tolerance. Students use aggressive (oppressive behavior) and dependent (insecure behavior) positions in communication. A significant number of students demonstrate a low level of response with feelings, which makes it difficult to contact people around them. Conclusion. Thus, purposeful work is needed to develop students' communication skills. For this purpose, we have developed a program for developing students' effective communication skills using transformational games, the effectiveness of which has been proven in practice and statistically.

Evaluating Various Colors of Persistent Luminescent Powders on Rose Cut Flowers

Rose cut flowers are popular in everyday bouquets or for special occasions, and tinting of the flowers by means of color addition increases the flowers economical value and aesthetic appeal. This study evaluated red and white luminescent rose cut flowers, which was achieved by applying six persistent luminescent powders. Solutions of each color were prepared by mixing 6 g of powder and 240 ml of deionized water and sprayed four times around the flower head plus a control. Images were taken of the flowers before ultraviolet blacklight exposure and after exposure to be later analyzed with ImageJ software. Daily measurements were taken including vase weight, average floral diameter, and visual deterioration based on scale of 1 to 4. Overall measurements included mean brightness; red, green, and blue measured values; dominant wavelengths of emitted color; flower diameter change rate; relative water percent; solution uptake rate; and vase solution uptake rate. For luminescent brightness mean without ultraviolet, white rose with blue powder had the greatest value. For luminescent brightness after ultraviolet exposure, white rose with green powder had the greatest value. With ultraviolet exposure, white roses with green powder had the greatest value followed by blue, orange, and white. Red powder on white and red roses experienced little to no luminescence before or after ultraviolet exposure. Mean and mode varied in their calculated dominant wavelengths; therefore, it is recommended to use mean values because more similarities in matching of the powder color and the calculated dominant wavelength were reported. Ultimately, white roses are preferred because they seemed to have greater health and luminescence compared with red roses, and green and blue powder would be recommended for luminescent application for brightness.

The Logic of Imagination and Gender Paradox:On the Adaptation Research of Red Rose White Rose

Eileen Chang's novels are deeply loved by the big screen for their cinematic imaginative literary style, highly informative and intellectual literary charm, and desolate and colorful literary temperament. However, these characteristics also bring controversy to her adaptation of movies. This article does not focus on exploring the inevitable changes brought about by media transformation, but directly points to the narrative core of the text. Taking the adaptation film Red Rose White Rose directed by Stanley Kwan as an example, by comparing the core narrative themes of the novel and the film, this study explores the narrative adaptation strategies and underlying logic of the film.

Hematological parameters in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats and the effect of Rosa damascena Mills. extract

Introduction: Chronic inflammation is the primary factor contributing to the development of diabetes mellitus and its associated problems in affected patients. White blood cells are of significant importance in the degenerative mechanism of blood vessel walls in individuals with diabetes, ultimately leading to the development of atherosclerosis and initiating the rupture of unstable plaques, which subsequently causes thrombosis. Red roses contain anthocyanins, with cyanidin being the specific compound that demonstrates the greatest antioxidant action. The main aim of this study was to investigate the impact of various doses of ethanol extract derived from Rosa Damascena on hematological markers in rats with diabetes. Methods: This study used an experimental design with a randomized post-test-only control group. A total of twenty male Wistar rats were allocated into five distinct groups for the purpose of this study. The groups were categorized as follows: Healthy Control Group (HCG), Diabetes Group (DG), and Extract Group, which was further separated into three subgroups denoted as P1 (250 mg/kgBW), P2 (500 mg/kgBW), and P3 (1,000 mg/kgBW). The experimental groups received a single injection of streptozotocin at a dosage of 50 mg/kgBW to induce diabetes. Additionally, they were administered oral treatment of Rosa Damascena ethanolic extract for a duration of 2 weeks. Results: The group denoted as P2 has the lowest NLR, as seen by a mean value of 0.06. In contrast, the group administered with Metformin exhibited the lowest leukocyte value, with a mean of 7.98±6.0. Nevertheless, there are no substantial disparities in the remaining variables. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that the ethanol extract obtained from Rosa Damascena did not have a statistically significant effect on the hematological parameters of rats with streptozotocin-induced diabetes.

Liver Protection Effect of Red Rose Petal Methanol Extract in Copper-Induced Liver Injury in Male Wistar Rats

The human body requires low amounts of copper to maintain homeostasis, but high copper intake can cause various health problems. Many previous studies have been performed to look for natural products that can neutralize the excessive copper effect; one such natural product is a rose petal. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the liver protection effect of rose petals in copper-induced liver injury in male Wistar rats. This experimental study used thirty male Wistar rats that were grouped into five groups, including control, standard (quercetin), Rose Petal Methanol Extract-1 (400 mg/kg BW), 2 (800 mg/kg BW), and 3 (1,200 mg/kg BW). All groups were treated for 14 days, and all rats were given copper (II) sulfate suspension for the last three days. On the fifteenth day, all rats were sacrificed to obtain blood and liver tissue SGOT, SGPT, and liver histology study. The results showed that rose petal methanol extract significantly decreased SGOT and SGPT levels compared to the control group (P-value <0.05). The reduced area of ballooning degeneration and necrosis were in line with the increased dose of rose petal extract supported the liver protection effect of rose petal extract. Therefore, it can be concluded that rose petal methanol extract protects the liver against copper impacts.

Antioxidant Activity of Rose Tea (Rosa damascene) with Various Types of Sugar and Rose Tea Concentration

Kombucha tea is a traditional beverages product manufactured from fermented tea and sugar solutions. Using Acetobacter xylinum sa starter. Kombucha tea has a refreshing sour taste, but the distinctives aroma make kombucha tea less attractives to consumers. Red roses (Rosa damascene) are a source of anthocyanin pigments that have not been widely used. In addition, to increase the economic value of roses. Based on research that has been done, red roses contain antioxidants in the form of purplish red anthocyanins. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the type of sugar and the concentration of rose extract on the characteristics of rose kombucha produced. This study used Completely Randomized Design (CRD). The factors used were the concentration of rose tea (1g/250ml, 2g/250ml, 3g/250ml) and variations in the type of sugar (palm, sand, fine). The best chemical and organoleptic analysis based on the highest antioxidant activity was the addition of palm sugar and the concentration of the addition of rose tea 1g/250ml with a total phenolic of 10.17mg GAE/L, total dissolved solids (TPT) 11.10%, acidity (pH) 3.86, antioxidant activity 48.28%, vitamin C 11.41%, 13.63% for total sugar, sour taste score 3.06, rose flavor 2.15 and 1.10 for overall preference the addition of palm sugar and the concentration of the addition of rose tea 1g/250ml. Kombucha made from rose extract can be an alternative functional food.

Preserving the Dance: R. M. Rilke’s Concern for the Preservation of Objects and its Reflection in Lithuanian Poetry

The article examines the connection between Rainer Maria Rilke’s concern for the preservation of objects and the poetic-aesthetic concept, which he applied to the phenomenon of dance. The article treats the dance, which receives relatively little attention as a separate art form in Rilke’s work, as a kind of (non-material) object. Overall, Rilke’s conception of the object goes beyond the “ordinary” and direct materiality. However, the desire to preserve objects in texts presupposes a special transformation, which can be identified as a distinctive phenomenological process. In Rilke’s poetry, dance appears in a variety of contexts and is often dependent on the image rather than the movement. Here, the poet applies Sehen Lernen, or “Learning to see” program. The article discusses Rilke’s poems that are related to the phenomenon of dance, including “Spanische Tänzerin” [“The Spanish Dancer”], “Toten-Tanz” [“Death-Dance”], an excerpt from “Die fünfte Elegie” [“The Fifth Elegy”] and Sonnet XVIII from Part II of Die Sonette an Orpheus [The Sonnets to Orpheus]. The article also explores the poetic reception of Rilke’s dance in Lithuanian poetry, the poems of Salomėja Nėris (“The Red Rose”), Henrikas Nagys (a fragment from “The Psalm of Fulfillment”) and Jonas Juškaitis (“Ballet”).

Yuliy Meitus's Musical Ballads on Robert Burns's Lyrics as part of Soviet Musical Burnsiana of the 1940–50s

The article examines Yuliy Meitus's musical ballads on Robert Burns's lyrics as part of Soviet musical Burnsiana of the 1940–50s. Up to the present time the names of such Soviet composers as Dmitry Shostakovich, Tikhon Khrennikov, Georgy Sviridov, Yuri Levitin and Edison Denisov embody the perception of the national poet of Scotland's heritage by Soviet composers of the middle of the twentieth century. However, the musical compositions of such prominent Soviet composers as Dmitry Kabalevsky, Lucian Prigozhin and Yuliy Meitus on Samuil Marshak's translations of Robert Burns dating back to the same period have been neglected. The contribution of Yuliy Meitus deserves special attention as he was neither Shostakovich's pupil nor close friend, unlike the majority of the composers mentioned, and his ballads: ‘A small ballad’ on ‘There was a Bonny Lass’, ‘ Macpherson before execution’ after ‘McPherson's Farewell’ and ‘Love’ on ‘A Red, Red Rose’ were composed in less then a month. The aim of the article is to attract the attention of musicologists to encourage analysis of these musical pieces in comparison with other interpretations of the same songs by Robert Burns, e.g. Dmitry Shostakovich's ‘Macpherson before execution’ (‘McPherson's Farewell’), Yuri Levitin's ‘Love’ (‘A Red, Red Rose’) and Edison's Denisov's ‘A small ballad’ (‘There was a Bonny Lass’).

‘Between the Red Rose and the White’: Staging Vegetal Materiality in the First Tetralogy

ABSTRACT Focusing on 1 and 3 Henry VI, this essay analyzes the ‘vegetal’ performances of Shakespeare’s first history tetralogy, informed by insights about the more-than-human world from the fields of new materialism and critical plant studies. Specifically, I argue that the roses the original performers wore onstage should be viewed as vegetal co-stars in Shakespeare’s dramatisation of the wars that bear their name. In close proximity to the players who wore them and mobilised them, the roses are at once highly objectified symbols and agential co-participants in the meaning-making of the plays constructed by both the players and the audience during performances. These roses were plant-agents among Plantagenets, exerting their own volitions and idiosyncrasies onstage, amidst the actors who wore them on their person. Thus, this essay intervenes in conversations about the agency of objects such as props and costumes on the Elizabethan stage, asserting a special place for objects that really should be viewed as subjects, this plant material representing the staged appearances of once living biological entities whose bodily idiosyncrasies could assert a material presence and even resistance to the humans with whom they shared the theatrical space.
