Preparation of the management staff of the Department of Internal Affairs for the elimination of the consequences of emergencies caused by forest fires

The subject of the study of this article is public relations in the field of organizing the training of personnel of internal affairs bodies for actions in emergency situations caused by forest fires. The object of the study is the organization and improvement of professional and service training in instilling competencies for conducting rescue and other urgent rescue operations in the aftermath of forest fires. The relevance of this work is related to improving the quality of professional training and retraining of police officers, and the execution of the Decree of the President of Russia V. V. Putin "On combating forest fires", which sets the task for senior officials of the subjects of the Russian Federation to ensure a reduction in the area of forest fires on forest fund lands in 2022-2030 by at least 50 percent relative to the level of 2021 of the year. The article provides a detailed analysis of the training of cadets and police officers to act in emergency situations. The issues of tactical training of police officers involved in extinguishing forest fires were raised. The methodology of the conducted research is based on the application of methods of included observation, analysis of the practical experience of the activities of ATS organizations and educational organizations, interdisciplinary analysis of literature and normative legal documents on the problem under consideration. The scientific novelty of the study is as follows: a) a detailed analysis was carried out on the training of police officers to eliminate the consequences of emergencies caused by forest fires; b) the need to pay special attention to the training of police officers to ensure personal safety when extinguishing forest fires is justified; c) the issues of tactics of preparing police units for emergency situations are highlighted. The main conclusions of the conducted research are the need to improve the tactics of preparing ATS units for action in the event of a threat and extinguishing forest fires. The above statistics and the considered example of the death of paratroopers during the extinguishing of a forest fire in Tyva indicate the importance of ongoing research in this area and the need to improve the quality of professional training.

Uvođenje kamera za uniformu u policijski rad - stvarna potreba ili iznuđeno rešenje

In the last ten years, police organizations in the USA and Europe have started to implement body worn cameras. The main purpose and goal of the implementation of these cameras is aimed at preventing unlawful and unprofessional actions and behavior of police officers and socially undesirable behavior of citizens. Miniature cameras on the body of police officers should deter police officers and citizens from committing illegal and socially unacceptable actions and procedures towards each other. Police organizations try to use body worn cameras to achieve the abovementioned goals as a substitute for other means of correcting unwanted behaviors, primarily training and education of police officers. This paper analyzes the reasons for the implementation of body worn cameras in the police organizations across the USA and in some European countries in order to reach a conclusion about the justification and the possibility to achieve complex and responsible goals only with the help of cameras.

Initial emergency training of traffic police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The subject of the study is the peculiarities of learning to drive a car. The object of the study is to train the initial actions of traffic police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the management of operational vehicles in extreme situations. Formation of practical skills in emergency training in the event of extreme situations. The authors consider in detail the location of the driver in the car, substantiate recommendations for the correct landing of the driver, which ensures his readiness for emergency actions. The authors give practical recommendations on the location of the hands on the steering wheel, so that, without losing control of the steering wheel, the driver can interact with the controls of the car. The authors pay special attention to the formation of the so-called "stability triangle" in the student of emergency driving, which includes (shoulders pressed against the back of the seat; the left foot in a resting place; the heel of the right foot, resting on the floor). Research methods: the dialectical method of scientific cognition, a systematic approach and analysis were used in the research process. Taking into account the complexity of the problem under consideration, general scientific and private scientific methods are used in the study: logical method, synthesis, structural and functional analysis and modeling methods. Implementation of the proposed recommendations in the practice of emergency training. The main conclusions of the study are the methodological recommendations proposed by the authors on training at the primary stage of emergency training for traffic police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The initial actions for the correct position of the body behind the driver's seat, methods of rotating the steering wheel with both two hands and one, as well as the development of practical skills in emergency training in the event of extreme situations are considered. A special contribution of the authors to the study of the topic is their proposed methodology for teaching emergency training to traffic police officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The authors consider the technique of driving a car with one hand to ensure full control of the steering wheel. The novelty of the study lies in the disclosure of the basic methodological techniques of initial training in emergency driving, which allows drivers to predict and prevent possible traffic accidents.

Innovations Concerning Diversity Training and Organizational Development Interventions for Police Officers Using Reflection and Talking Circles

Abstract The paper explores a management consulting and organizational development intervention focused on employing new and innovative approaches to diversity training for police and law enforcement organizations through real-world interventions that explore human stories, connections, and dialogues as tools for understanding and change. The outcome of this approach is a more dynamic, productive, and constructive way to have more impactful and transformative organizational development and employee discussions, interventions, and training on diversity, inclusion, and cultural competence in law enforcement and all complex organizations. The intent of this discussion is not to reconstitute academic theory, but to influence the world of practice in a way that supports social change, because when applied, community-based research is important and relevant.

Legal Culture of a Police Offi cer: Essence, Features of Formation and Development

The article examines the essence of legal culture. Its constituent elements are reviewed and analyzed. Issues related to its formation and development are considered in detail. Legal education and self-education are key elements in the developmentof an employee both at a departmental university and after graduating from other educational institutions. The problems of legal education and training of police offi cers, as systemic and dynamic processes, are also touched upon. Particular attention is paid to the legal thinking and consciousness of the employee, as well as issues of legal epistemology.

IMPROVING THE PROFESSIONAL TRAINING OF MIA OF UKRAINE EMPLOYEES THROUGH THE IMPLEMENTATION OF JIU-JITSU TRAINING ELEMENTS

In contemporary times, training in various martial arts disciplines has become quite popular among the general population. The percentage of individuals with some degree of proficiency in martial arts is as high among lawbreakers as it is among the general population. Therefore, the demands on the level of professional training for police officers are increasing in response to the challenges they face. Currently, there is no unified system of training for law enforcement personnel in Ukraine, making it challenging to draw statistical conclusions about the overall effectiveness of any specific system. However, in Western law enforcement agencies, Jiu-Jitsu has long been recognized for its effectiveness, particularly in defending against strikes during its utilization in the context of so-called “No-Holds- Barred” fights in the early 1990s, which we now know as MMA (Mixed Martial Arts). The high sporting efficiency of Jiu-Jitsu, supported by years of statistical research in Western countries, suggests that its application in police work could be a pivotal factor in changing the professional training landscape for law enforcement personnel in Ukraine. Research objective. To evaluate the potential use of Jiu-Jitsu methods to enhance the effectiveness of police officers during detainment procedures and further refine their skills in the application of hand-to-hand combat techniques. Research object. Professional training of police officers. Research subject. The level of professional training of police officers from the law enforcement agencies of MVS Ukraine. Research methods. The research methods employed include theoretical analysis, data systematization and generalization, conducting a pedagogical experiment, and mathematical processing of the obtained results. Initial indicators of the police officers’ proficiency in executing hand-to-hand combat techniques were relatively low. The research results indicate a positive and statistically significant improvement in the indicators for the group that incorporated Jiu-Jitsu methods compared to the control group. The inclusion of Jiu- Jitsu into the training process for police officers has demonstrated its effectiveness, as evidenced by the enhancement of relevant indicators.

Педагогическая модель формирования профессиональных компетенций молодых специалистов органов внутренних дел средствами наставничества

The aim of the study is to construct a pedagogical model for forming professional competencies among young specialists of the law enforcement agencies through mentoring. The paper discusses variable models aimed at achieving this pedagogical goal proposed and tested by modern scientists and specialists in the field of methodology and technology of vocational education, taking into account departmental specifics, analyses the structure and content of the models. The scientific novelty of the study lies in proposing a theoretical pedagogical model for forming professional competencies among young specialists of the law enforcement agencies through mentoring based on the author’s own pedagogical experience, the experience of other researchers in the context of regulatory requirements for the results of educational training of police officers, the requirements of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the organisation of mentoring and the potential of variability of mentoring models. In addition, the main components of the author’s model are characterised. As a result of the study, it has been found that in the scientific literature, there are reliable confirmations of the positive impact of mentoring on the formation of professional competencies among young specialists of the law enforcement agencies, therefore, the developed pedagogical model can be recommended for testing in practice to verify its effectiveness.

Testing for visual deficits by the police among road users in Germany

The Professional Association of Ophthalmologists (BVA) estimates that at least 100,000s of traffic accidents with 10,000s of injuries and fatalities are caused by known and unknown visual disorders on German roads every year. Until now, however, the police have not had the opportunity to check for potential visual disorders on the spot in cases of conspicuous driving. In apilot project of the police with the Eye Hospital of the Hannover Medical School (MHH), the aim was for the first time to extend the existing tests of the police by adapted "car-side" vision tests. On-site evaluation of eye motility, pupil size and light reaction of car drivers as well as an orienting visual acuity test and an orienting confrontation visual field was performed. The practical performance of all examination modalities was previously coordinated and trained. The scope and type of individual examinations for estimating visual ability of car drivers were described and standardized. In addition to the visual characteristics, more familiar neurological tests, such as walking along astraight line were also recorded. The combined test evaluation results in an objective basis for the official decision of an immediate temporary withdrawal of the driving license, if necessary, and the initiation of further measures, such as an ophthalmological examination. With these innovations, the Lower Saxony police have revised their training concept for checking driving ability and issued it for implementation at the beginning of 2022, including the vision tests recommended by ophthalmologists. In the meantime, around 150 officers have been trained in Lower Saxony and are now authorized to carry out qualified driving ability tests. In this respect, alarge number of corresponding traffic examinations have already been carried out and the continued driving of road users with significant visual deficits has been prevented. In this pilot project, the aim was for the first time to expand the common testing procedures of the traffic police for the detection of drivers who are dangerous to traffic, in addition to screening for alcohol, drugs and neurological deficits, to include specific tests for the detection of visual deficits. The corresponding training of police officers has been carried out across the board in Lower Saxony and Hamburg, and the measures are currently being applied as needed during traffic controls. In the future, the tested characteristics will be evaluated in aweighted score and will provide an objective basis for the police to decide whether to stop the driver in cases of deficits.

Participation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in Enhancing African Police Personnel Peacekeeping Capacity

The peacekeeping became actual agenda of international relations due to increased number of internal conflicts with mass human rights violations in different regions of the world including Africa. The problems of ensuring peace and security have become priority for United Nations (UN) and regional organizations involved in constant search of conflict resolution best practices. Peacekeeping actors admitted the key role of law-enforcement agencies, and first of all the police, in ensuring security in conflict or post-conflict reconstruction. Therefore, the UN actively developing the strategy of police methods usage in peacekeeping operations. Because of this process, the number of member states contributing police contingents to the UN including formed police units increased. Joint activity of police officers from different countries with different education, professional experience and specialization requires high-quality training of candidates for peacekeeping operations. The purpose of this article is to analyze the needs of African police officers in professional development and the capabilities of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation in training of African police officers for the UN peacekeeping operations. The study is based on insights from non-participant observation, interviews and analyses of the UN official documents, policies and training materials. Actual Russian and foreign scientific publications were used. Results confirmed that Russian Federation has many years of experience in African policemen training for the UN peacekeeping operations. The promising areas of Russian Federation participation in the development of the peacekeeping potential of African police, along with the provision of standardized pre-deployment training based on the UN certified programs, can be training in the crime investigation methodology and the training of special police units of the UN member states.

해양경찰관 직무 교육훈련의 효과성 분석 및 개선방안에 관한 연구

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effectiveness of marine police officers’ job training based on Kirkpatrick's evaluation model of training effectiveness and to contribute to the development of marine police officer training by making policy suggestions based on the analysis results. In order to achieve this research purpose, the four levels of Kirkpatrick's evaluation model of training effectiveness were examined, prior studies were analyzed based on Kirkpatrick's evaluation model, and the effectiveness of job training was empirically tested using the data from 856 police officers.
 Multiple regression analyses showed that the factors affecting the effectiveness of job training for marine police officers were the training curriculum, training method, learning effect, and learning transfer. Therefore, in order to improve the effectiveness of job training, the department in charge of marine police training needs to develop the training curriculum that meets the internal and external needs of coast guard, implement the training methods suitable for the characteristics of the training subject, and as a result, facilitate learning effect and learning transfer more.

Нормативы специальной профессиональной подготовки сотрудников полиции в обеспечении практико-ориентированного содержания профессиональных образовательных программ

Abstract: Introduction. The system of personnel training for internal affairs bodies of the Russian Federation has a task to implement professional educational programmes with a short period of training: to increase the recruitment for training in the specialty of secondary professional education 40.02.02 «Law enforcement» and to start the recruitment for training in the direction of higher education (bachelor’s degree) 40.03.02 «Ensuring law and order». Secondary professional education and practical oriented bachelor’s degree programmes should be filled with sets of professional competencies that can be measured and assessed. The authors propose to use control tasks (norms) of special professional training as measurable professional competences. There are no norms on special professional training (except for norms on physical and firearms training) for police officers. This fact determines the relevance of the research.
 Research methods: dialectical method of scientific cognition and closely related to it private-scientific and special methods.
 Results. The necessity of taking into account the experience of implementation of professional educational programmes of practical oriented bachelor’s degree and secondary professional education of the Federal project «Professionalism» is shown. The theoretical result of the research is the formulation of the definition of the normative of special professional training of police officers and the criteria of classification
 of these normatives. The methodology of validation and development of norms is proposed. An example of practical use of theoretical and methodological results of the research is given – a group of norms of service and combat training of police officers and their approximate list are presented.
 Conclusions. The use of standards of special professional training and control tasks developed on their basis in the educational process will ensure the practice-oriented content of professional educational programmes. Control tasks and standards should be developed on the basis of studying the most effective techniques and methods of actions of police officers in carrying out operational-service and service-combat tasks. One of the promising directions to reduce the adaptation period of graduates of educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation to duty activities is the implementation of professional educational programmes in a network form with the organisation of educational and practical centres (clusters) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation. The means of assessing the professional competencies of graduates of educational organisations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the means of testing the special professional preparedness of police officers of the corresponding categories should be identical. Prospects for further research include the development of control tasks (standards) for academic disciplines (modules), designed to assess the formation of professional competencies of graduates of educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, based on the areas of training, mastered by students of professional educational programmes.

Introduction. In the current economic and political realities, the modern activity of a policeman requires from him not only professional theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills, endurance, stress resistance and strong psychological skills. The relevance of this issue is explained by the need for solving staffing problems in view of growing threats and the rise in crime, as well as for increasing the level of practical training of police officers in emergency situations, which begins at the internship stage, and is the basic form of training future specialists of Internal Affairs Bodies. Theoretical analysis. The purpose of the article is to reveal the distinctive features and organizational problems of practical training of police officers in the course of educational and quasi – professional activities. Empirical analysis allowed us to confirm the theoretical positions obtained during the survey on the basis of the Netherlands Institute for the Study of Crime and Law Enforcement, and Moscow University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia named after V. Ya. Kikot. Conclusion. As a result of the conducted research, a general conclusion is formulated about the relevance of the problem of police officers' professional training and the need for finding approaches to its organization and developing a comprehensive model of training practices.

The purpose of this study is to present policy suggestions on desirable attitudes toward North Korean defectors through empirical research on the level of familiarity and interest in North Korean defectors, image of North Korea, and image-shaping influence media for new police officers trained at the National Central Police Academy. In order to conduct empirical research, a survey was conducted on 300 adult men and women in their 20s and older who were educated at the National Central Police Academy through the self-evaluation method. From October 1 to October 10, 2021, 300 people responded to a randomized sampling survey with a response rate of 100%, using 300 surveys and analyzed using the IBM SPSS program. As a result of the analysis, the frequency of contact with North Korean defectors in terms of demographic characteristics showed a static correlation with affinity for North Korean defectors, and a talisman correlation with the image of North Korea. Attitudinal traits showed a statistically significant correlation between the three variables of friendliness, interest, and image with North Korean defectors. As for the affinity for North Korean defectors, it can be seen that the more frequent contact there is, the higher the affinity for North Korean defectors. In terms of interest in North Korean defectors, women were more interested in North Korean defectors than men, a statistically significant difference. The image of North Korea showed an inappropriate correlation with the frequency of contact with North Korean defectors. In other words, the more North Korean defectors meet, the more negative images of North Korea accumulate. When we checked the media that influenced the formation of North Korea's image, the media (TV and media media) accounted for more than half of the media (56.0%), followed by the Internet (including SNS) and education. This study seeks to make the following policy recommendations. First, it is the gradual resolution of the “South-South conflict” in Korean society. Second, strengthen multicultural education and publicity activities for the people. Third, the development of various policies. Fourth, comprehensive network construction. Fifth, it is necessary to limit the spread of negative images of North Korean defectors in the mass media. Sixth, strengthen training for new police officers.

Gaining practical skills in handling firearms in modern realities and under martial law

The article presents the results of a scientific study, namely, the analysis of police training in firearms handling in accordance with the guidelines developed in peacetime before the beginning of Russian aggression. The author identifies the aspects that directly contribute to the selection of candidates for service in the national police, taking into account their previous experience and knowledge of firearms handling before starting their studies at higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine with specific training conditions.
 The author identifies promising areas of work to improve the quality of knowledge in the discipline “Firearms Training”, which directly affects the readiness of a police officer to protect the country and who must have practical skills in the use of modern weapons. The importance of strengthening the country’s defense capabilities and preparing young people to defend the homeland, as well as martial law as a special legal regime in exceptional circumstances when there is a threat of an armed attack on the country, is considered. The issues of promoting patriotic education and the development of special educational institutions for training future police officers were highlighted, and the need to improve the material and technical base, in particular, the importance of developing computer technologies and other modern teaching methods that will maximize the effect of the educational process in the training of law enforcement officers, was emphasized. The article gives an example which, in our opinion, should be further developed and applied in higher educational institutions of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the course of firearms training, which will increase the motivation of students and cadets not only to obtain positive marks in the firearms training course, but also to achieve a high level of sports and professional skills.
 Namely, the regular holding of practical shooting competitions. All of these measures are aimed at strengthening the country’s defense capabilities and raising the level of professional training of police officers, which is important for ensuring national security and protecting Ukraine’s national interests.

Психологическая подготовка сотрудников полиции как мера предотвращения девиаций

In the article, the authors note not only the importance of the formation of professional competence, but also highlight the role of psychological training in the training of police officers. In particular, psychological factors contributing to deviation in police officers and preventive measures that can be implemented to reduce the effects of the identified factors are considered. The authors emphasize the importance of early identification of employees at risk and providing them with appropriate support and training to prevent escalation of their behavior. The article also highlights the need for police services to develop a culture of accountability and transparency to prevent misconduct and ensure public trust. In general, the article gives a practice-oriented view on the prevention of deviant states.

THE MAIN DIRECTIONS OF PSYCHOLOGICAL TRAINING OF EMPLOYEES OF THE OPERATIONAL AND INVESTIGATIVE ACTIVITIES

Significant changes in the market system of Kazakhstan, the formation of a rule of law state, and the need of society for a significant improvement in the activities of law enforcement agencies put forward the task of scientific development and practical implementation of personnel policy in the law enforcement system of employees of the Operative Investigative Service (hereafter OIS). For this purpose, it is necessary to comprehensively investigate the specifics of the professional activity of an OIS officer, determine the requirements that this activity imposes on the psyche and personality of an OIS officer, and distinguish clear criteria for his professional suitability or unsuitability for work in law enforcement agencies. In the process of scientific research, we concluded that: - psychological training of police officers is one of the activities of law enforcement agencies. It forms employees' psychological resistance to various stress factors, the ability to act calmly and confidently in psychologically difficult situations during acute respiratory infections, as well as development of stress resistance. That is quite important since not all Operative Investigative Activities (OSA) employees can cope with the volume of work and quickly burn out; - professional communication of the OSA employees depends on professional and non-professional forms which are based on the rules of speech behavior adopted in a particular social environment; - it is necessary to conduct a special «Operative Investigative Psychology» course for students and undergraduates in the majors of «Jurisprudence» (the study of Law) «Psychology» and cadets of special educational institutions who trained employees of the OSA, psychologists. During the course, it is relevant to conduct training courses on the development of cognitive mental processes (sensation, perception, representation, imagination, thinking, memory, attention, speech); on the ability to work with people (establishing psychological contact, exerting influence on them, etc.); establishing the truth and making the right decision.

О необходимости совершенствования психологической подготовки сотрудников органов внутренних дел к служебной деятельности в условиях информационно-психологического противодействия

The article deals with the problem of improving psychological training, reflecting the current requirements for the performance of law enforcement officers in the conditions of information and psychological counteraction in the provision of mass events. It is noted that these conditions are associated with an increased level of tension, have a manipulative, provocative nature, which directly affects the psycho-emotional and physical condition of employees. In order to optimize the psychological training of police officers and improve the efficiency of our activities, we have analyzed the methods and techniques of information and psychological impact of the opposing side. The results of a pilot study are presented, on the basis of which the actual needs of students of educational organizations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in the process of psychological preparation for service to ensure the protection of public order and public safety are identified. In conclusion, on the basis of the analysis, the structure of psychological training of police officers for the conditions under consideration is proposed, which includes three components of activity: emotional, behavioral and cognitive. The content of the components is disclosed, according to which a list of psychological work activities is presented.

A Scoping Review of Ethical and Legal Issues in Behavioural Variant Frontotemporal Dementia

Behavioural variant frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) is a subtype of frontotemporal dementia characterized by changes in personality, social behaviour, and cognition. Although neural abnormalities cause bvFTD patients to struggle with inhibiting problematic behaviour, they are generally considered fully autonomous individuals. Subsequently, bvFTD patients demonstrate understanding of right and wrong but are unable to act in accordance with moral norms. To investigate the ethical, legal, and social issues associated with bvFTD, we conducted a scoping review of academic literature with inclusion & exclusion criteria and codes derived from our prior work. Among our final sample of fifty-six articles, four mentioned bvFTD patient-offenders as unfit to stand trial by insanity, and sixteen mentioned the use of dementia evidence in a court of law to better understand the autonomy of bvFTD patients. Additional emergent issues that were discovered include: training police officers to handle situations involving bvFTD patients and educating healthcare providers on how to help caregivers navigate bvFTD. The current literature highlights the inadequacy of traditional applications of medico-legal categories such as autonomy, capacity and competence, in informing cognitive capacity assessments in clinical and legal settings and deserves consideration by neuroethicists.

Perception de différentes dimensions de la psychiatrie par les agents de police : étude sur 191 policiers parisiens

IntroductionPsychiatric pathologies are widespread in the general population and rank third among the most frequent pathologies in the world, according to the World Health Organization, affecting nearly one in four people over their lifetime. Police officers in France are often required to intervene with people suffering from psychiatric disorders when they are involved in disturbances to public order. However, despite the frequency of these interventions in France, only a few specific training courses in psychiatry are made available to police officers. There has not been any research conducted in France on this subject. The objective of our study was to explore the perception of different dimensions of psychiatry (symptoms, treatments, prevalence, and dangerousness) by the Parisian police through an exploratory study. MethodA self-administered questionnaire was sent to Parisian police officers through an internal mailing list. The questionnaire was comprised of 25 questions divided into five sub-sections. The first section of the questionnaire concerned the demographic and professional characteristics of the participants (age, gender, rank, and years of experience). The second section explored the exposure (personal and professional) of police officers to psychiatry. The third and fourth sections were devoted to questions about training in psychiatry and their perception of the different dimensions of psychiatry. The last section of the questionnaire was dedicated to any comments regarding the questionnaire. ResultsOne hundred and ninety-one Parisian police officers – 106 men (56%) and 83 women (43%) – responded to the questionnaire and many of them reported frequent exposure to psychiatry (two-thirds say they are involved at least once a month with patients suffering from psychiatric disorders). The most frequently encountered problems were delusional ideas, agitation, suicide attempts or suicides, behavioral problems related to substance abuse, and hallucinations. We generally found benevolent attitudes on the part of the police. The police officers questioned evoked: mistrust (94.7%), empathy (46.8%), fear (37.4%), incomprehension (32.9%), and a negative judgment (8.4%), and 84% of the police officers reported an increased risk of using force during interventions involving people with psychiatric disorders. These results can be partly explained by the impairment of discernment found in people with decompensated psychiatric disorders, communication difficulties between police and patients, and the lack of training in the management or recognition of such symptoms. In addition, the majority of the participants reported feeling insufficiently trained in psychiatry and were in favor of the implementation of specific training courses either during their studies or as an element in their professional career: three-quarters of the police officers questioned never had any training in psychiatry during their studies or since taking up their post, and 80% of the police officers said they were inadequately trained to evaluate and deal with situations involving psychiatric disorders. The police officers largely favored specific training: 82.7% of them would like to be more trained in psychiatry during their studies or on the job, thus underlining a desire to be better prepared for these interventions. ConclusionThis study is, to our knowledge, the first of its kind in France on this subject. Several results are consistent with those of international scientific literature and highlight the frequent exposure of Parisian police officers to people with psychiatric disorders and the officers’ mostly benevolent, understanding, and non-stigmatizing attitudes. Nevertheless, police officers remain insufficiently trained in psychiatry, and this lack of training can be the source of communication difficulties, mistrust, or fear and thus increase the risk of the use of force. The majority of the study participants favor implementing these training courses, particularly with respect to the management of agitation and behavioral disorders, which are the symptoms most frequently encountered during these interventions. This study remains exploratory but could inform future work, mainly in implementing and evaluating specific psychiatric training for police officers.
