A Hybrid Model for Analysis of Laser Beam Distortions Using Monte Carlo and Shack–Hartmann Techniques: Numerical Study and Experimental Results

The hybrid model for analyzing distortions of a laser beam passed through a moderately scattering medium with the number of scattering events up to 10 is developed and investigated. The model implemented the Monte Carlo technique to simulate the beam propagation through a scattering layer, a ray-tracing technique to propagate the scattered beam to the measurements plane, and the Shack–Hartmann technique to calculate the scattered laser beam distortions. The results obtained from the developed model were confirmed during the laboratory experiment. Both the numerical model and laboratory experiment showed that with an increase of the concentration value of scattering particles in the range from 105 to 106 mm−3, the amplitude of distortions of laser beam propagated through the layer of the scattering medium increases exponentially.

Numerical and Experimental Study on the Process of Filling Water in Pressurized Water Pipeline

As an important working condition in water conveyance projects, the water filling process of pipelines is a complex hydraulic transition process involving water–air two-phase flow with sharp pressure changes that can easily cause pipeline damage. In light of the complex water–air two-phase flow during pipeline water filling, this study explores the water filling process of right-angle elbow pressure pipelines using CFD numerical simulations and physical model experiments, analyzing changes in water phase volume fraction, water-gas two-phase flow patterns, and hydraulic parameters in the pipeline under low flow rate conditions of 0.6 m/s and high flow rate conditions of 1.5 m/s. Results show that under low flow rate conditions, there is more local trapped gas at the top of the pipeline, causing negative pressure at local high points in the pipeline and forming a vacuum. Under high velocity conditions, water-gas two-phase flow changes more frequently in the pipeline, with a large number of bubbles collapsing at the top, resulting in large fluctuations in pipeline pressure. Finally, through physical experiments, the main flow patterns during water filling in right-angle elbows are verified and analyzed. These results have certain reference significance for formulating safe and efficient water filling velocity schemes for pressurized pipelines.

Adipose-Derived Stem Cells Enhance Graft Incorporation and Mineralization in a Murine Model of Irradiated Mandibular Nonvascularized Bone Grafting.

Nonvascularized bone grafting represents a practical method of mandibular reconstruction. However, the destructive effects of radiotherapy on native bone preclude the use of nonvascularized bone grafts in head and neck cancer patients. Adipose-derived stem cells have been shown to enhance bone healing and regeneration in numerous experimental models. The purpose of this study was to determine the impact of adipose-derived stem cells on nonvascularized bone graft incorporation in a murine model of irradiated mandibular reconstruction. Thirty isogenic rats were randomly divided into 3 groups: nonvascularized bone graft (control), radiation with nonvascularized bone graft (XRT), and radiation with nonvascularized bone graft and adipose-derived stem cells (ASC). Excluding the control group, all rats received a human-equivalent dose of radiation. All groups underwent mandibular reconstruction of a critical-sized defect with a nonvascularized bone graft from the contralateral hemimandible. After a 60-day recovery period, graft incorporation and bone mineralization were compared between groups. Compared with the control group, the XRT group demonstrated significantly decreased graft incorporation (P = 0.011), bone mineral density (P = 0.005), and bone volume fraction (P = 0.001). Compared with the XRT group, the ASC group achieved a significantly increased graft incorporation (P = 0.006), bone mineral density (P = 0.005), and bone volume fraction (P = 0.013). No significant differences were identified between the control and ASC groups. Adipose-derived stem cells enhance nonvascularized bone graft incorporation in the setting of human-equivalent radiation.

Delayed Response of the Onset of the Summer Monsoon over the Bay of Bengal to Land–Sea Thermal Contrast

Abstract The mechanisms involved in the onset of the Bay of Bengal summer monsoon (BOBSM) were studied using reanalysis data and numerical model experiments. Results revealed that the weak meridional land–sea thermal contrast (LSTC) over the northern BOB in early spring enhances the lower-tropospheric easterly belt along 10°–15°N, which is unfavorable for the BOBSM onset. The BOBSM onset is driven by the cumulative impact of this LSTC along with the LSTC in the meridional direction across the equator and in the zonal direction across the tropics, together with air–sea interactions. While the LSTC intensifies over the northern BOB, a near-surface northward cross-equatorial flow develops south of India, inducing springtime zonal flow and surface sensible heating over the southern BOB and a pair of cyclones straddling the equator over the central Indian Ocean at 700 hPa. The zonal LSTC in the tropics generates near-surface cyclones over land and anticyclones over the sea. This induces a zonal SST warm pool around 10°N, which produces vertical westerly wind shear to the north and weakens the wintertime easterly aloft and the anticyclone to its north. As the cyclone over southern India develops eastward, the cyclone below 700 hPa develops northward over the eastern BOB in response to the enhancing tropical westerly and surface sensible heating. The wintertime anticyclonic belt and easterly belt split, and the southerly carries water vapor northward over the eastern BOB, heralding the onset of the BOBSM and presenting a delayed response to the springtime LSTC changes.

Mathematical modeling of experiments on the interaction of a high-power ultraviolet laser pulse with condensed targets

Objectives. The paper aimed to review and analyze the results of works devoted to numerical modeling of experiments on the interaction of high-power ultraviolet (UV) laser pulses with condensed targets. The experiments were carried out at GARPUN, the powerful KrF-laser facility at the P.N. Lebedev Physical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow). The relevance of the research is related to the use of excimer UV lasers as a driver for a thermonuclear reactor. Physical aspects of laser-plasma interaction, including those related to the possibility of using two-sided cone target in a fission-fusion reactor, are discussed.Methods. The research is based on physico-mathematical models, including Euler and Lagrange.Results. The mathematical modeling of three types of natural experiments is presented: (1) burning through different thicknesses of Al foils by high-power UV laser; (2) studying hydrodynamic instability development at the UV laser acceleration of thin polymer films and features of turbulent zone formation; (3) interaction of high-power UV laser pulses with two-layer targets (Al + Plexiglas) and study of fine structures. Numerical modeling showed that a hybrid reactor with UV laser driver can use targets in the form of two-sided counter cones.Conclusions. Physico-mathematical models are developed along with 2D codes in Lagrangian and Eulerian coordinates as confirmed in the results of natural experiments. The models can be used to describe the physics of high-power UV laser pulses interacting with various targets and forecast the results of reactor-scale experiments.

A Trans-Season Out-of-Phase Relationship of Tropical Cyclogenesis between the Western North Pacific and South China Sea

Abstract The present study investigates the relationship of tropical cyclone (TC) genesis between the western North Pacific (WNP) and South China Sea (SCS) from 1979 to 2020. A significantly out-of-phase variation is found between spring [March–May (MAM)] TC genesis over the WNP and the following summer–fall [June–November (JJASON)] TC genesis over the SCS. More TCs over the WNP in MAM are followed by fewer TCs over the SCS in the succeeding JJASON. Composite analysis and numerical model experiments show that negative sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies during MAM in the tropical central-eastern Pacific (CEP) and southeastern Indian Ocean work together to induce a lower-level cyclonic circulation over the WNP, with the latter more important. The positive specific humidity and ascending motion favor the TC genesis over the WNP in MAM. In the following JJASON, the SST anomalies are reversed in the tropical CEP. The positive precipitation anomalies over the western-central Pacific induced by positive SST anomalies further stimulate an anomalous zonal overturning circulation with anomalous descending motion and boundary layer divergence over the SCS. In addition, the persistent negative SST anomalies around the Maritime Continent (MC) induce an anomalous anticyclone to the west. Both processes lead to negative genesis potential index (GPI) anomalies and thus inhibit the TC genesis over the SCS. This out-of-phase relationship of TC genesis between the WNP and SCS also exists when the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) transition years are removed. This finding may be helpful to improve the seasonal prediction of the SCS TC activity over the peak TC season.

Generation of Cold Anticyclonic Eddies and Warm Cyclonic Eddies in the Tropical Oceans

Abstract Mesoscale eddies are ubiquitous features of the global ocean circulation. Traditionally, anticyclonic eddies are thought to be associated with positive temperature anomalies while cyclonic eddies are associated with negative temperature anomalies. However, our recent study found that about one-fifth of the eddies identified from global satellite observations are cold-core anticyclonic eddies (CAEs) and warm-core cyclonic eddies (WCEs). Here we show that in the tropical oceans where the probabilities of CAEs and WCEs are high, there are significantly more CAEs and WCEs in summer than in winter. We conduct a suite of idealized numerical model experiments initialized with composite eddy structures obtained from Argo profiles as well as a heat budget analysis. The results highlight the key role of relative wind-stress-induced Ekman pumping, surface mixed layer depth, and vertical entrainment in the formation and seasonal cycle of these unconventional eddies. The relative wind stress is found to be particularly effective in converting conventional eddies into CAEs or WCEs when the surface mixed layer is shallow. The abundance of CAEs and WCEs in the global ocean calls for further research on this topic.

Parametric study of retrofitted reinforced concrete columns with steel cages and predicting load distribution and compressive stress in columns using machine learning algorithms

Abstract Recently, the use of reinforced concrete (RC) structures is becoming very common worldwide. Because of earthquakes or poor design, some of these structures need to be retrofitted. Among different methods of retrofitting a structure, we have utilized a steel cage to support a column under axial load. The numerical modeling of a retrofitted column with a steel cage is carried out by the finite-element method in ABAQUS, and the effectiveness of the number of strips, size of strips, size of angles, RC head, the strips’ thickness, and the steel cage’s mechanical properties are studied on 15 different case studies by the single factorial method. These parameters proved to be very effective on the load distribution of the column because by choosing the optimum case, lower amounts of force are born by the column. By increasing the number of strips, the steel cage would reach 52% of the total load. This value for the size of strips and angles’ size is 48 and 50%, respectively. However, the thickness of the strips does not have a significant effect on the load bearing of the column. In order to fully predict the load distribution of the retrofitted columns, the data of the present study are utilized to propose a predictive model for N c/P FEM and N c/P FEM using artificial neural networks. The model had an error of 1.56 (MAE), and the coefficient of determination was 0.97. This model proved to be so accurate that it could replace time-consuming numerical modeling and tedious experiments.

The Therapeutic Potential of Novel Carnosine Formulations: Perspectives for Drug Development.

Carnosine (beta-alanyl-L-histidine) is an endogenous dipeptide synthesized via the activity of the ATP-dependent enzyme carnosine synthetase 1 and can be found at a very high concentration in tissues with a high metabolic rate, including muscles (up to 20 mM) and brain (up to 5 mM). Because of its well-demonstrated multimodal pharmacodynamic profile, which includes anti-aggregant, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities, as well as its ability to modulate the energy metabolism status in immune cells, this dipeptide has been investigated in numerous experimental models of diseases, including Alzheimer's disease, and at a clinical level. The main limit for the therapeutic use of carnosine is related to its rapid hydrolysis exerted by carnosinases, especially at the plasma level, reason why the development of new strategies, including the chemical modification of carnosine or its vehiculation into innovative drug delivery systems (DDS), aiming at increasing its bioavailability and/or at facilitating the site-specific transport to different tissues, is of utmost importance. In the present review, after a description of carnosine structure, biological activities, administration routes, and metabolism, we focused on different DDS, including vesicular systems and metallic nanoparticles, as well as on possible chemical derivatization strategies related to carnosine. In particular, a basic description of the DDS employed or the derivatization/conjugation applied to obtain carnosine formulations, followed by the possible mechanism of action, is given. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first review that includes all the new formulations of carnosine (DDS and derivatives), allowing a decrease or complete prevention of the hydrolysis of this dipeptide exerted by carnosinases, the simultaneous blood-brain barrier crossing, the maintenance or enhancement of carnosine biological activity, and the site-specific transport to different tissues, which then offers perspectives for the development of new drugs.

The Effect of Scaling Building Configuration Blast Experiments on Positive Phase Blast Wave Parameters

Explosions in an urban setting can have a significant negative impact. There is a need to further understand the loading effects caused by the blast’s interaction with structures. In conjunction with this, the effects of scaling and understanding the limitations of laboratory experiments are equally important given the cost incurred for full-scale experiments. The aim of this study was to determine the scaling effects on blast wave parameters found for reduced-scale urban blast scenario laboratory experiments. This paper presents the results of numerical modelling and physical experiments on detonating cuboidal PE-4 charges and measuring the pressure in direct line of sight and at three distinct positions around the corner of a small-scale “building” parallel to the rear wall. Two scales were used, namely 75% and 100%. Inter-scaling between 75% and 100% worked fairly well for positions shielded by the corner of the wall. Additionally, the lab-scale results were compared to similar (but not identical) field trials at an equivalent scale of 250%. The comparison between lab-scale idealised testing and the larger-scale field trials published by Gajewksi and Sielicki in 2020, indicated sensitivity to factors such as detonator positioning, explosive material, charge confinement/mounting, building surface roughness, and environment.

Qualification Analysis of Experimental Data for High-Temperature Oxidation of Russian Zirconium Alloys in Steam

The paper presents the results of qualification analysis of experimental data on high-temperature oxidation of the Russian zirconium alloys in steam, which include an assessment of the consistency of measurement results in tests, and numerical modeling of experiments with SOCRAT-V1/V2 code. Conclusions are provided on the possibility of using the SSC RIAR experimental programs for validation of severe accident codes, and the applicability of the SOCRAT-V1/V2 code for prediction of the high-temperature oxidation of the Russian zirconium claddings of fuel rods.

Numeričko modeliranje hidrodinamičke izvedbe na poroznom kosom tipu plutajućeg lukobrana

A breakwater is a coastal building that aims to break up or withstand wave energy that enters the beach so that the characteristics of the incoming waves are by calculations and can reduce abrasion on the shoreline. Designing a floating breakwater is very complicated because it depends on many aspects. These fundamental aspects depend on each other, so if one of these aspects changes, the integrity of the floating breakwater structure will also change. One of these aspects is the magnitude of the transmission and reflection coefficients generated by the floating breakwater. This research will study the hydrodynamic performance of floating breakwater due to variations in slope and porosity in reducing and reflecting waves with computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The slope-porous floating breakwater dimension is based on previous experimental data, including a constant water depth of 0.75 m, a wave height of 0.05 - 0.125 m, and a wave period of 1.1 - 2 sec on regular waves. The results of the numerical model validation and experiments on all variations of the floating breakwater model are quite good, which is less than 10% for both wave transmission and reflection. Analysis of the influence of changes in the mooring line angle, the simulation is carried out at an angle of 30 deg to 90 deg and produces an average transmission coefficient of 0.79 and a reflection of 0.21. While the effect of changes in water level elevation (0.85 m, 0.75 m, and 0.65 m) gives a reasonably significant average transmission coefficient of 0.85 and a reflection of 0.13. The mooring line angle will be gentler at high tide, and the transmission and reflection coefficients will be higher. However, the mooring line will loosen at low tide, causing the structure to move more freely and eliminating the function of the floating breakwater itself so that the tidal phenomenon becomes a challenge for coastal experts in designing structures to produce effective and efficient hydrodynamic performance.

Regression models for assessing the efficiency of vibratory separation of parsnip seeds taking into account air dynamics based on numerical simulation and field experiment

To reduce the complexity of research into designing promising vibratory machines while minimizing the harmful effect of the aerodynamic factor, it is convenient to use regression models. With their help, a quantitative assessment of the effectiveness of separation (cleaning) of seed mixtures is carried out, depending on the design parameters and the mode of operation of vibratory machines. This paper reports the results of research on the construction of regression models for parsnip seeds based on numerical modeling and full-scale experiment. Based on numerical modeling, a four-factor regression model of the second order was built, which takes into account the geometric characteristics of the aerodynamic screen, the design of the set of working surfaces, and the oscillation amplitude of a vibratory machine. Based on a full-scale experiment, a three-factor regression model of the second order was constructed for a constant gap between the working surfaces. A comparative analysis of the resulting regression models suggests that numerical modeling provides satisfactory accuracy in assessing the influence of the aerodynamic factor. This estimate, when using a regression model based on a numerical experiment, exaggerates the estimate determined by the full-scale experiment by 5–15 % (depending on the regressate variation area localization). Hence, the numerical model of the process of vibrational motion of light-weight seeds, taking into account the action of aerodynamic forces and moments, used to build a regression model of separation of parsnip seeds, can be considered adequate. Regression models (for parsnips and other plant crops), which are built on the basis of numerical modeling, should be used to solve problems of optimizing the parameters of vibratory machines according to the criterion of reducing the harmful effect of the aerodynamic factor.

An Improved DCC Model Based on Large-Dimensional Covariance Matrices Estimation and Its Applications

The covariance matrix estimation plays an important role in portfolio optimization and risk management. It is well-known that portfolio is essentially a convex quadratic programming problem, which is also a special case of symmetric cone optimization. Accurate covariance matrix estimation will lead to more reasonable asset weight allocation. However, some existing methods do not consider the influence of time-varying factor on the covariance matrix estimations. To remedy this, in this article, we propose an improved dynamic conditional correlation model (DCC) by using nonconvex optimization model under smoothly clipped absolute deviation and hard-threshold penalty functions. We first construct a nonconvex optimization model to obtain the optimal covariance matrix estimation, and then we use this covariance matrix estimation to replace the unconditional covariance matrix in the DCC model. The result shows that the loss of the proposed estimator is smaller than other variants of the DCC model in numerical experiments. Finally, we apply our proposed model to the classic Markowitz portfolio. The results show that the improved dynamic conditional correlation model performs better than the current DCC models.

Assessment of predictability of the Loop Current in the Gulf of Mexico from observing system experiments and observing system simulation experiments

This study presents results from numerical model experiments with a high-resolution regional forecast system to evaluate model predictability of the Loop Current (LC) system and assess the added value of different types of observations. The experiments evaluate the impact of surface versus subsurface observations as well as different combinations and spatial coverage of observations on the forecasts of the LC variability. The experiments use real observations (observing system experiments) and synthetic observations derived from a high-resolution independent simulation (observing system simulation experiments). Model predictability is assessed based on a saturated error growth model. The forecast error is computed for the sea surface height fields and the LC frontal positions derived from the forecasts and control fields using two metrics. Estimated model predictability of the LC ranges from 2 to 3 months. Predictability limit depends on activity state of the LC, with shorter predictability limit during active LC configurations. Assimilation of subsurface temperature and salinity profiles in the LC area have notable impact on the medium-range forecasts (2–3 months), whereas the impact is less prominent on shorter scales. The forecast error depends on the uncertainty of the initial state; therefore, on the accuracy of the analysis providing the initial fields. Forecasts with the smallest initial error have the best predictive skills with reliable predictability beyond 2 months suggesting that the impact of the model error is less prominent than the initial error. Hence, substantial improvements in forecasts up to 3 months can be achieved with increased accuracy of initialization.

Hydrogen gas treatment improves survival in a rat model of crush syndrome by ameliorating rhabdomyolysis

Objectives Crush syndrome (CS) is characterized by a systemic manifestation of traumatic rhabdomyolysis, leading to multiple organ dysfunction and death. Ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury is commonly responsible for systemic response. Extending studies have shown that hydrogen gas treatment ameliorated IR injury in numerous experimental models; however, its effect on CS has not been well examined. This study aimed to investigate the effects of hydrogen gas inhalation following crush injury in an experimental model of CS. Methods Male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to experimental CS by applying a total of 3.0 kg weight to both hindlimb under general anesthesia for 6 h. Immediately after decompression, the animals were randomly placed in a gas chamber filled with either air or 1.3% hydrogen gas. Animals were sacrificed 18 h or 24 h following gas exposure for non-survival studies or for survival study, respectively. Results The rats with hydrogen treatment ( n = 6) had a higher 24-h survival than the rats with air treatment ( n = 9) (100% vs. 44%, p = 0.035). Lactate concentrations (2.9 ± 0.2 vs. 2.2 ± 0.2 mmol/L, p = 0.040) and creatine kinase (34,178 ± 13,580 vs. 5005 ± 842 IU/L, p = 0.016) were lower in the hydrogen group compared with the air group 18 h after decompression ( n = 4 in the air group, and n = 5 in the H2 group). Histological analysis revealed that the damage to the rectus femoris muscle and kidney appeared to be ameliorated by hydrogen treatment. Conclusion Hydrogen gas inhalation may be a promising therapeutic approach in the treatment of CS.

Numerical simulation and experimental study of vacuum arc remelting (VAR) process for large-size GH4742 superalloy

Numerical modeling and industrial experiment were used to study the entire vacuum arc remelting (VAR) process of 660 mm GH4742 superalloy. In order to calculate the electromagnetic field, flow field, temperature field, and melt pool shape change throughout the entire VAR process, a 2D axisymmetric model with coupled multi-physical fields matching industry trials was constructed. The microstructure and elemental distribution conditions in the large-size GH4742 ingot were analyzed in combination with the industrial ingot dissection experiment, and the most likely locations of freckle defects were predicted. According to the research, the melt pool has two clockwise flow fields that are affected by buoyancy and Lorentz forces. The melt pool depth deepens gradually as melting proceeds, with a maximum melt pool depth of 0.32 m and a paste zone width of 0.16 m. Although the ingot's elemental distribution is largely consistent, there is microsegregation between the dendrites. Where the freckle is most likely to appear, at (0.322, 0.075), the Rayleigh has a great value of 1.1. For melt pool form and dendritic spacing throughout the entire melting process, the results of the industrial ingot dissection experiment and the simulation results show good agreement, proving the accuracy of the thermal history and solidification microstructure calculation for the entire melting process. Furthermore, the prospect of combining numerical simulation with a special material database for accurate defect prediction is proposed.

Record-breaking 2020 summer marine heatwaves in the western North Pacific

Record-breaking marine heatwaves (MHWs) occurred in the western North Pacific during the summer of 2020. These unprecedented MHWs were consistent with favorable large-scale conditions that are linked to an anomalous western North Pacific subtropical high (WNPSH), resulting mainly from sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies across the tropical oceans. In addition, a moderate La Niña-like pattern was also conducive to transporting warm seawater to the western North Pacific. Mixed-layer heat budgets suggest that surface heat flux contributed to the SST anomaly in the western subtropical Pacific. In contrast, oceanic heat advection dominanted in the South China Sea and the western equatorial Pacific. Numerical model experiments indicated that the tropical Indian Ocean SST anomalies were responsible for the enhanced WNPSH. The increased zonal SST gradient across the tropical Pacific also played an important role. Inter-ocean interactions can modulate climate variability through ocean-atmospheric coupling and deserve more attention when predicting MHWs within the context of global warming. In addition, it is critical to consider MHWs as a powerful tool in detecting acute, intense thermal stress events in the coral bleaching pre-warning system.

Turbulent Kinetic Energy Production in a Far‐Field River Plume Under Upwelling‐Favorable Winds

AbstractAn idealized three‐dimensional numerical model is used to investigate turbulent kinetic energy (TKE) production in a far‐field river plume under upwelling‐favorable winds. TKE production decreases over longer length scales as the river plume thickens. Maximum TKE production appears in the surface layer and is mainly generated by the alongshore component of the velocity shear. The large velocity shear and weak stratification in the surface layer result in a gradient Richardson number (Ri) of <0.25, which corresponds to the locally high TKE production. We find that asymmetrical TKE production occurs at the two edges of the river plume, due to the opposite nonlinear interaction of the Ekman and geostrophic effects at the shoreward and seaward edges of the river plume. This asymmetrical TKE production combines with secondary upwelling circulation in the river plume under upwelling‐favorable winds, which may generate more intense biological activity at the shoreward edge of the river plume than at the seaward edge. Numerical model experiments are performed to examine the effects of wind, river discharge, and stratified conditions on TKE production in the river plume. Finally, we propose a conceptual model in which the depth‐averaged TKE production in the river plume is proportional to the alongshore wind stress () and inversely proportional to the cube of the surface boundary layer thickness (D3), which is consistent with the results of numerical experiments.

Universal global compact representation of head-related transfer functions with hemi-spherical harmonics and conformal mapping

The head-related transfer function(HRTF) is an essential part of spatial auditory display systems. In recent years, numerous HRTF databases are established to include human subjects' measurements, which enabled data-driven research projects such as HRTF prediction and personalization. However, in most cases, each HRTF database has its own unique measuring standard and source direction grid set. It's difficult to merge and efficiently represent the global HRTF information across multiple HRTF databases. Current presentation methods, such as principle component analysis (PCA) and spherical harmonics transform (SHT), are constrained by the source grid layout and regularization errors, which lays burdens for common feature extraction from different sets of HRTF measurements. In this work, we propose a novel approach for the global compact representation of HRTFs across different measuring standards, using hemispherical harmonics (HSH) and conformal mapping. The method takes into account the spatial domain covered by the typical HRTF measurements and proves to be less contained by the source direction grids. Both numerical and auditory model experiments are performed, to examine the representation error and consistency when including multiple HRTF databases with different measuring standards and grid layouts. In continuing work, we are using this method as a pre-processing approach for HRTF personalization utilizing multiple HRTF databases.
