The histochemical findings of various dehydrogenases in the defatted paraffin sections of the normal adrenal cortex and damaged liver of rat were observed. The adrenal cortex maintained much activity of DPN- and TPN- diaphorases through cold acetone fixation and paraffin embedding. The reactions of glucose-6-phosphate, malate and lactate were also sufficiently positive. Their distribution pattern, however, at three layers of cortex not always coincided with that of fresh frozen sections, and, therefore, one must be much cautious for practical use. In the present procedure, it is most important to incubate the sections without deparaffination.
