Temporal determinants are the most widely spread in the group of background determinants. Expressed in prepositional-nominal word forms, they are characterized by syncretism of semantics, since they are implicit exponents of additional predicativeness within the sentence composition. The difficulty of defining their secondary predicativeness is due to their special semantics, which is a linguistic embodiment of a complex spatio-temporal sphere, covering all phenomena of objective reality without exception. Space is naturally linked with time, and this unity is manifested in movement - the way of existence of matter, which lies in the continuous change of everything that exists in objective reality. We can separate space from time and from matter only in abstraction. Time is a form of phenomena and state of matter successive changing. Word forms with a time meaning occupy a leading place among the determinant members of a sentence. They belong to the semantic type of background extending definitive. Determinants with a temporal meaning create a time-correlated background for the event determined by the rest of the statement's syntactic composition. They indicate the place of existence, the development of the main event, named by the predicate base. The purpose of research is to analyze the features of temporal determinants in modern Ukrainian literary language. Results of research. In modern Ukrainian literary language, time relations, depending on the semantics, are divided into several groups, which indicate to: 1) defined simultaneity; 2) indefinite simultaneity; 3) precedence in time; 4) time continuity; 5) combination of precedence in time and time continuity; 6) the time point for the beginning of the action; 7) the time point for the completion of the action etc. Quite often temporal and local determinants are combined, and the temporal determinant often occupies the first position, while the local determinant fills the position of the second component. The first position of the temporal determinant can be explained by the universal meaning of the time characteristic, since any event always takes place on the time axis : Ночами довкола гуртожитку відбувалось якесь життя (Ю. Андрухович). Prepositional-nominal word forms are the main means of expressing temporal semantics. Adverbs are a typical way of expressing the determinants of temporal semantics. The most productive among them are adverbs denoting parts of a day, a specific time of the year . (улітку, восени, вдень, вночі, вчора, сьогодні, завтра etc.), for example.: Улітку Сарон вирощував усі свої приправи на городі, взимку заставляв підвіконня вазонками базиліку (Н. Сняданко); Вночі вона прокинулася від раптового усвідомлення (Н. Сняданко). Determinants with a temporal meaning can also be expressed in single verbal adverbs or verbal adverb phrases, with the meaning of time precedence or time continuity: Відповівши хлопцеві, Мирон Данилович відчув: справді, страх нападає через той дим, що відучора непокоїть (В. Барка); Не відповівши , Можейко зник за дверима (О. Волков). Therefore, the category of temporal relations in texts of various functional styles has a system of special morphological and non-morphological means: 1) prepositional-nominal forms (preposition + N2, preposition + N4, preposition + N5, preposition + N6); 2) nominal word forms (N2, N4, N5); 3) adverbs of time circumstances (Adv); 4) single verbal adverbs or verbal adverb phrases serving to indicate time aspect. The possibility of classification of the determinants’ expression means within the statement structure, the study of the secondary members of the sentence in the languages having different systems in a comparable aspect looks promising.
