The Dynamic Effects of Competition on Investment: The Case of the European Mobile Communications Industry

ABSTRACT We evaluate the impact of competition on investments in Europe’s mobile communications market during the 2011 to 2021 period. There are stark and sustained differences in market outcomes between three- and four-player markets in Europe, and economic theory suggests these could be partly explained by the dynamic effects of competition on the ability and incentives to invest by market players. We find strong evidence that market concentration in Europe is below optimal levels that would maximize investments, especially in four-player markets. The dispersion of fixed costs and assets among a greater number of players can result in diseconomies of scale and a less efficient use of resources. We also find evidence that investment incentives to improve quality and innovate are lower in markets with lower concentration indices and profit margins.

Fifth Generation Non-Standalone to Standalone Wireless Architecture Reconstruction Solution and Implementation: South Africa Context

The wireless mobile communication industry has evolved immensely over the past five decades, starting from the voice-centric 1G technology to the current data-centric 5G technology because of the increasing data traffic and the need for higher data speed rates. To provide the initial experience of 5G technology, many network operators worldwide started their deployment with the Non-Standalone (NSA) solution to mainly reduce the cost and time. 5G NSA solution already provides lower latency, higher network capacity, and bandwidth compared to the legacy network, however, there is growing oncern about its reliance on the 4G core network, capability, and the long-term migration plan to 5G Standalone (SA) network solution. This paper discusses a brief review of 5G evolution, standardization formulation, deployment strategies, security enhancement, challenges, and presents the reconstruction of 5G NSA to SA solution implementation. Furthermore, a 5G field test will be performed to analyze the user experience under the NSA NR in South Africa, and key practical challenges facing the South African MNOs from the perspective of business and technical challenges will be discussed with recommendations.

How Does Socio-technical Landscape Affect the Formation of Technical Standards?

The formation of technical standards is a complex process that involves the integration of various technical resources and organizational resources. It is influenced by multiple factors. This paper focuses on four independent variables, namely market size, economic environment, infrastructure construction, and government support, which are regarded as different dimensions of the socio-technical landscape. Additionally, R&D investment is introduced as a mediator variable to construct a model that examines the role of the socio-technical landscape in the formation of technical standards. Empirical tests are conducted using relevant data from the 4G technology in China’s mobile communication industry. The study reveals that there is a positive causal relationship between market size, economic environment, infrastructure development, government support, and technology standards. Furthermore, it finds that R&D investment plays a significant mediating role between the economic environment and technology standards, infrastructure development and technology standards, and government support and technology standards. These findings provide valuable insights for enterprises and governments in promoting the formation of technical standards.

Assessment of Economic and Environmental Sustainable Issues in the Mobile Communications Industry in Pakistan

Sustainability concerns related to both the economy and the environment within the mobile communications industry can impact not only the corporation itself but also have repercussions across various sectors. Significantly reducing energy consumption in Telecommunication Power Systems is crucial in telecommunications technologies. This reduction facilitates substantial economic resource savings and aligns with initiatives for achieving sustainable development. Despite the industry's importance, limited scientific attention has been given to economic and environmental sustainability issues. This study employs an integrated framework for corporate sustainable management, encompassing Pakistan's rural and urban areas. The investigation delves into the environmental and economic challenges within the mobile communication industry. Furthermore, an institutional theory focusing on mobile network providers and an economic and environmental management analysis are explored. This study holds significant implications for economists, practitioners, and policymakers involved in the mobile communication industry. The hope is that these findings will serve as a valuable starting point for subsequent practices and research in the realm of sustainability management for telecommunications services.

Using LSTM Network for Predicting Radio Mobile Networks’ Behaviors

Breakthroughs in artificial intelligence, machine learning anddeep learning with great recent achievements have been strongly impacting the mobile communication industry. The traditional method ofmobile network management and operation has been shifting toward automation and proactive monitoring. Forecasting radio mobile networks’behaviors in coexisting multi-layer technology mobile networks for improving resource allocation efficiency and optimizing network’s key performance indicators becomes a critical task. This paper proposes usingLong-Short Term Memory (LSTM) network for predicting radio networks’ behaviors based on real statistical data from operational supportsystems. The promising results show the potential of our approach. Theprediction results can help mobile network operators leverage networks’operating performance.

Mobile Broadband Adoption, Performance Measurements and Methodology: A Review

Mobile broadband (MBB) penetration has deepened globally over the last twenty years. This is largely due to the adoption of smart devices, improved mobile communications network coverage, and the perpetual drive to develop ever faster mobile and wireless communication technologies. However, information on the quality of service (QoS) delivered by MBB operators to the end users remains an issue of concern. This has driven independent researchers and mobile communication industry regulators to develop methodologies for independent and unbiased evaluation of the QoS offered by MBB networks. This paper provides a detailed review of MBB adoption and penetration across several regions of the world. It also includes the existing methodologies for evaluating the performance of MBB systems as experienced by the end user. Specifically, methodologies such as the drive and walk tests, crowd-sourced mobile device-based methods and the software applications they employ, and the dedicated measurement testbeds are reviewed. Based on this, the challenges of adopting each of the methods are discussed in order to make a case for the development of more robust, partially autonomous and scalable MBB measurement platforms for the future.

Modeling Customer Satisfaction’s Impact on Loyalty: Insights for Customer-Centric Resource Allocation

This study explores the nonlinear modeling of customer satisfaction (CS) and loyalty for resource allocation strategies that promote efficient loyalty programs. We first introduce global models to reflect several important nonlinear characteristics, particularly (a) a saturation-attainable limit of effectiveness, (b) nonconstant marginal returns, and (c) asymmetric responses between satisfied and dissatisfied customers. In the proposed models, we put forth the joint use of two types of mixture models to deal with different levels of heterogeneity. Based on the model best supported among alternatives in the literature, we targeted customers using expected incremental loyalty, which is derived from the joint use of an estimated response curve of loyalty to satisfaction and an empirical distribution of CS scores. Then, we evaluate the efficiency of loyalty programs under the assumption of full and limited access to customers and subsequently derive managerial implications. For instance, through a counterfactual simulation of the models for the three industries, we find that improving the perceived quality in the mobile communication industry may have a greater effect on loyalty than in the hotel and convenience store industries because of its higher switching cost. Impact mechanism of technological innovation by Chinese companies on CSR in Africa mobile communication industry

Technological innovation has played a crucial role in national growth and development. This study explores the impact of the mechanism of technological innovation led by Chinese companies on CSR of the Africa mobile communication industry. Data was analysed quantitatively using 227 managers and retail owners of Chinese companies in Africa. We select three major theories: TD theory, CSP concept and AMO theory. The selected theories provide knowledge about innovative strategy development in mobile communication management along with CSR performance management of Chinese companies in Africa. Our findings have suggested a positive relationship between patent numbers, technology innovation, profitability, and CSR. Technology innovation has predicted a positive increase in the CSR association. We measured CSR policy and strategy adoption based on four primary constructs, such as technological innovation, new patent numbers, employee skill levels, and company performance. Our research showed that CSR and technology have a positive correlation (0.859). Similarly, a strong correlation exists between company performance and corporate social responsibility policy. Employee skills and the number of new patents each have a strong positive correlation with CSR strategy adoption rate (0.910 and 0.768).

Abstract: Recently, with the rapid spread of smart devices including smartphones, the paradigm of the mobile communication industry is shifting from 'voice call' to 'application', and consumers' perception of information is a process of "development, sharing, participation, and diffusion" I started to pay a lot of attention to the use for personalization and lifestyle change through In particular, due to the recent rise of the Internet of Things (IoT), through interworking with IoT (Internet of Things) and smart devices, we are providing an individual-centered, life-friendly sensor app service that directly processes or controls information collected from nearby sensors. Various attempts are being made to provide it. In this paper, we will look at domestic and international trends in convergence technology with IoT, along with examples of interworking and application of sensors in smart devices.

Influence of Social Media on Corporate Communication Social Responsibility Under Entrepreneurial Psychology.

The research intends to improve the optimization of social media’s nature of corporate social responsibility (CSR) and standardize the influence mechanism of social media. First, the research analyzes the concepts of social media, CSR, and corporate reputation from the perspective of entrepreneurial psychology and expounds on the influencing factors of CSR scores from a macro perspective. Second, the mechanism of social media’s role in CSR is briefly discussed. On this basis, it is found that the most intuitive manifestation of social media platforms affecting the communication of CSR is the impact on the score of CSR. Three hypotheses are proposed, namely, (1) social media platforms, such as “WeChat,” have a greater impact on the communication of CSR; (2) social media is positively correlated with the increase in CSR scores; and (3) user reading and liking are positively correlated with the increase in CSR scores. Finally, 78 listed companies related to the mobile communication industry are selected as samples for the questionnaire survey and statistical analysis, and the hypothesis is demonstrated. The results demonstrate that the hypothesis that the social media platform “WeChat” has an impact on the communication of CSR is valid, and the hypothesis that the open state of “social media” is positively correlated with the increase in CSR scores is not valid. It is assumed that the number of user readings and likes is positively correlated with the increase in CSR score, which is valid under a limited sample. It is concluded that the WeChat platform has the best effect on the communication of CSR and can provide the impetus for the improvement of corporate reputation. The opening of “social media” is not directly related to the improvement of CSR scores. The correct operation of “social media” will have an impact on the communication of CSR. The correlation between the number of users reading and liking on “social media” and the increase in CSR score is not significant, as only the number of “likes” on social media related to shareholders is significantly associated with an increase in CSR score. The linear regression coefficient between the number of likes and the increase in CSR score is less than 0.05. There is a positive correlation between user reads, likes, and increases in CSR scores. This research helps enterprises to effectively fulfill their social responsibilities and improve the efficiency of CSR. This makes up for the lack of social media’s influence mechanism on the nature of CSR. It innovatively explores the impact of social media on CSR from the perspective of entrepreneurial psychology and provides some ideas for entrepreneurs and enterprises to create CSR and CSR value.

Corporate social responsibility: the contribution of Ukrainian mobile operators to overcoming the consequences of the spread of COVID-19

Introduction. The business challenges posed by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic have prompted companies to respond immediately to the situation and implement new CSR projects to support the community. All companies act differently: they give preferences to doctors, allocate funds for the purchase of equipment, organize remote work et cetra. At the same time, the question of the peculiarities and differences between different industries and within one industry remains almost unsolved.The purpose of this study is to analyze the activities of mobile companies in Ukraine in the field of corporate social responsibility. The contribution of companies in overcoming the consequences of the pandemic, what actions were taken and in what directions is also studied.Methods. To achieve this goal, general and special methods were used, namely: theoretical generalization, systematization, analysis and synthesis, economic and statistical methods of collecting and processing information, as well as the method of logical generalization - to draw conclusions.Results. The current situation in the social and economic spheres of Ukraine is described. The analysis of the mobile communication industry in Ukraine as one of the key ones in remote work and self-isolation is carried out, the market capacity and consumer needs are studied. The practices and measures of corporate social responsibility, which were implemented by key companies in this industry both in the years before the coronary crisis and in 2020, were studied.Prospects. On the one hand, it is worth investigating how corporate social responsibility will develop in companies operating in the field of mobile communications. After all, their external environment is also changing, and the problems caused by the emergence of COVID-19 have not yet been overcome. On the other hand, a similar analysis of companies in other industries will reveal who is really ready to change and adapt to new circumstances, and who will gradually lose their market positions.

The model is adopted in a case study to analyze the leapfrogging development of technologies in China’s mobile communication industry. This paper enriches technological innovation theory and provides supports for policy making and guidance for industries/enterprises practices regarding technological innovation in emerging economies.

Enabled by these capabilities, the 6G communication systems are especially aiming at improving the user's experience greatly, or more ambitiously, to change the way of human's everyday life. So far, many new services with more stringent requirements, such as truly immersive extended reality (XR), high-fidelity mobile hologram, and digital replica, are expected to be satisfied by the 6G communication systems.

With the continuous acceleration of China’s socialist process, the development of society has made a great leap forward. Mobile Internet is an emerging product of the integration of traditional Internet and mobile communication industries. At present, the industry has not yet reached a unified consensus on the concept of mobile Internet. This research mainly discusses the application of Internet-based mobile information system in college physical education classroom teaching. In order to adapt to the pace of social development and cultivate more intelligent, healthy, and noble students, the education cause also carries out continuous reform and innovation. New educational ideas and new educational methods have been attracting people’s attention. More and more people are pursuing higher education level. School education should not only pay attention to the progress of students’ academic performance and the sound personality quality, but also pay attention to the implementation of physical education and help students carry out appropriate physical exercise, so as to exercise students’ physique and make them realize the importance of physical exercise. As an important link in school physical education teaching, classroom teaching design has a very important influence on teaching quality and classroom teaching effect. For the Internet mobile information system, it can not only improve the ability of physical education teachers to control the teaching process, but also make the teaching objectives and content, teaching strategies and methods, and teaching evaluation formulated by physical education teachers more systematic, thus improving the teaching quality and professional development of physical education teachers. The Internet mobile information system provides a variety of file sharing methods for teachers and students to share physical education resources. This study aims to study the problems of university physical education classroom teaching from the perspective of the Internet mobile information system, find the problems existing in university physical education classroom teaching, reasonably solve the educational problems of university physical education classroom teaching, help the development of college sports, and help college students to carry out physical exercise and maintain a strong constitution. The methods adopted in this paper are as follows: firstly, inductive method is used to analyze the survey data; secondly, the case analysis method is used to study the characteristics of curriculum in colleges and universities; finally, after finding the existing problems, comparative research method is used to compare the influence of students, teachers, and leaders in charge on the existing education problems. The conclusion is the lack of theoretical guidance and concept carding in college physical education makes students not form a good lifelong sports consciousness; the positive influence of physical exercise on a person greatly promotes the development of personal lifelong sports; there are unreasonable phenomena in the arrangement of physical education teaching in colleges and universities. The training mode of colleges and universities is mainly based on social practice, and extracurricular activities are mainly for it. In addition, there is a small amount of in-class teaching.
