High-low junction 10.6 μm detectors are fabricated from p-type Ge. These detectors operate as room temperature photo-voltaic detectors. The d.c. bias-voltage dependence of their output voltage shows two different characteristics; one is a “μ-type” photoconductivity effect and other is a new phenomenon. An improvement of responsivity of more than 12dB was obtained by using the new effects.
