Kesalahan Penggunaan Kata Kerja “Juyou” dan “Yongyou” dalam Karangan Mahasiswa STBA-PIA Medan Semester VII T.A. 2020/2021

The aim of this research is to describe the types of language errors and the factors that cause them in the use of the verbs jùyǒu and yōngyǒu in Mandarin essays in the seventh semester of STBA-PIA T.A. 2020/2021. This research uses a qualitative descriptive research design to achieve the research objectives. The subjects of this research were 40 students. The data collection techniques used are documentation techniques to determine the types of language errors and interview techniques to determine the factors that cause these language errors. This research obtained results showing that there were four types of errors made by students of the fourth year Chinese literature study program STBA-PIA Medan semester VII, namely subtraction errors of 1 sentence (1.2%), addition errors of 7 sentences (8 .2%), replacement errors were 74 sentences (87.1%) and sequencing errors were 3 sentences (3.5%), where replacement errors were the highest type of error among the four types of errors. Apart from that, the factors causing errors in using the verbs jùyǒu and yōngyǒu can be divided into two, namely interlingual factors as many as 3 people (30%) and intralingual factors as many as 7 people (70%).

On C-E Translation of Fantasy Novels from the Perspective of Transknowletology: A Case Study of Coiling Dragon

With the boom in spreading Chinese net literature abroad, it is imperative to enhance the quality of translation for network novels. As a cornerstone of network novels disseminated in international markets, fantasy novels not only incorporate original fictional knowledge but also Chinese cultural knowledge, both of which are the secrets to attracting foreign readers and the focal points requiring special attention in translation. The translation standards of pursuing “Truth, Virtue, and Beauty” proposed by Transknowletology provide guidance for addressing the challenges in translating fantasy novels. Taking Coiling Dragon as an example, this paper explores how the translator conveys his genuine comprehension of the source text to the target readers, caters to them and aligns with their aesthetic standards when translating the fantasy novel. This paper aims to summarize translation methods for the English translation of fantasy novels so as to provide valuable references for improving the translation quality of network novels which are published and popular on internet.

Language-attached Transfer Restrictions in Neural Machine Translation: An Analysis of Tao Te Ching

This study focuses on the language-attached transfer restrictions in Chinese to English neural machine translation (NMT) of Tao Te Ching, an ancient Chinese philosophical text, which aims to identify and analyze the specific challenges and limitations encountered by NMT systems when translating linguistic features that are unique to the source language and how these challenges impact the accuracy and quality of the translated text in English. It contributes to the understanding of the complexities involved in machine translation of ancient Chinese texts and proposes strategies to mitigate the identified transfer restrictions, ultimately aiming to bridge the gap between machine translation capabilities and the richness of Chinese philosophical literature.

Systematic review and meta-analysis of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for activities of daily living in Alzheimer's disease.

This systematic review of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) was conducted to assess the effect of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) on activities of daily living (ADLs) in Alzheimer's disease (AD) patients. Ten databases were retrieved for pertinent Chinese and English literatures published up until January 2024. All RCTs of rTMS for ADLs in AD were included in this meta-analysis. Two researchers independently selected the literatures, retrieved the data of included literatures, accessed risk-of-bias of literatures with the Cochrane Collaboration's quality criteria and then cross-checked. Meta-analysis was carried out with Cochrane's Review Manager (RevMan, version 5.4). The PRISMA guidelines were followed in this systematic review. The 37 literatures involving 2461 patients with AD were included in this study. Compared with the control groups received the interventions such as routine pharmacotherapy, cognitive training, ect., with/without sham-rTMS, the experiment groups received the interventions of the control groups and rTMS. The findings were as follows: ADL scale [mean difference (MD) = -3.92, 95%CI (-4.93, -2.91), P < 0.00001]; Barthel Index (BI) [MD = 9.75, 95% CI (6.66, 12.85), P < 0.00001]; Modified Barthel Index (MBI) [MD = 5.43, 95% CI (3.13, 7.73), P < 0.00001]. The differences were statistically significant for all indicators. In 29 studies, rTMS stimulation sites were located in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC). The rTMS could improve the ADLs in AD patients, and the DLPFC was a frequently used stimulation site of the rTMS for AD treatment.

Reconstruction of Knowledge and Medical Images in the Convergence of Chinese and Western Medicine ——Taking “Sweet Meat” as an Example

Abstract: The pancreas is neither part of the five Zang organs (五脏) nor the six Fu organs (六腑). Thus, it has received little attention in Chinese medical literature. In the late 19th century, medical missionaries in China started translating and introducing anatomical and physiological knowledge about the pancreas. As for the word pancreas, an early and influential translation was “sweet meat” (甜肉), proposed by Benjamin Hobson (合信). The translation “sweet meat” is not faithful to the original meaning of “pancreas”, but is a term coined by Hobson based on his personal habits, and the word “sweet” appeared by chance. However, in the decades since the term “sweet meat” became popular, Chinese medicine practitioners, such as Tang Zonghai (唐宗海), reinterpreted it by drawing new medical illustrations for “sweet meat” and giving new connotations to the word “sweet”. This discussion and interpretation of “sweet meat” in modern China, particularly among Chinese medicine professionals, is not only a dissemination and interpretation of the knowledge of “pancreas”, but also a construction of knowledge around the term “sweet meat”.

Differentiated Instruction in Chinese Primary and Secondary Schools: A Systematic Literature Review

Purpose This study explores the current status of differentiated instruction (DI) in Chinese mainland primary and secondary schools. Design/Approach/Methods This study comprises a systematic review of the Chinese literature. Forty-five articles, published between 2000 and 2022, were reviewed and the results are presented as a thematic overview. Findings Chinese characteristics have contributed to the distinctive development of Chinese DI. Chinese researchers have defined DI as both a teaching concept and a practice. Chinese scholars have suggested strategies for teachers to use, including flexible grouping, tiered instruction, and multiple forms of evaluation, along with the use of non-graded classes and artificial intelligence. This study identifies barriers to teachers’ adoption of DI including large class size and China's examination-oriented culture. However, Confucian belief was effectively a forerunner of DI. Originality/Value This study offers insights and practical suggestions for those seeking to promote DI in Chinese mainland; for example, class sizes should be reduced, and teachers should receive relevant professional training. This study identifies a pressing need for empirical research of DI implementation in schools in Chinese mainland.

Framing Chinese Youth in the Aftermath of the Cultural Revolution

Abstract The launching of the reform program in 1978 went hand in hand with praising Chinese youth as the vanguard of the new struggle for modernising China. Yet, the official rhetoric projected the ideal youth, while being at odds with the complex reality of the early post-Mao era, when the experience of the Cultural Revolution (CR) turned out to be the main reason for the so-called ‘youth problem’. Both international and Chinese literature have highlighted that in the reform era, youth, intended as a social and cultural category or construct, came to be associated with less positive values, and the traditional discourse of ‘youth as hope’ proliferated along and intertwined with a negative discourse of ‘youth as trouble’. This paper looks at the re-emergence of the Communist Youth League (CYL) as a key institutional actor in setting the stage for the construction of a new social discourse on youth in the transitional period 1978–1981, when the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) leadership confronted with the need to deal with the tumultuous upheaval of the CR and its impact on youth on the one hand, and to push forward the reformist agenda on the other. By mainly relying on CYL sources (documents, internal publications and the official youth press), a part of which has been largely unexplored so far, it shows how the discourse on youth became complex and multifaceted in those historical circumstances, reflecting not just different views within the élite but also and most importantly the very tensions involved in the reform project. While the existence of the ‘youth problem’ led to establishing a causal nexus with the now condemned ultra-leftist tendencies associated with Lin Biao and the Gang of Four, the need to make sense of the complexity of youth boosted a heated debate on youth characteristics, with a number of cadres and adult experts affiliated to the CYL defining, describing and prescribing what Chinese youth were in ways that, by ensuring they had not been guilty as former Red Guards and recognising them as both victims and increasingly emancipated actors, eventually pushed forward a new idea of youth that conformed to the new modernization aims of the Party. Providing an assessment of the young generation and its inclinations in the aftermath of the CR eventually became the premise for facilitating the emergence of a new youth subjectivity, while envisioning the integration of the self within the broader collective and the coexistence of liberal values with traditional socialist ethics. The debate on youth characteristics reflected the complex changes taking place in China and was constitutive of a broader process that set the stage for rethinking the socialisation of youth in the post-Mao era.

Evaluation of traditional Chinese exercise for knee osteoarthritis (KOA): an overview of systematic reviews

BackgroundKnee osteoarthritis (KOA) has become a public health issue. Several systematic reviews (SRs) and meta-analyses (MAs) indicate that traditional Chinese exercise (TCE) may be an effective treatment for reducing pain and stiffness and improving physical function in people with knee osteoarthritis (KOA).ObjectivesTo evaluate the literature quality and evidence for the systematic reviews of TCE for KOA and provide evidence to support the clinical application of TCE for KOA.MethodsEight databases were searched from their inception to January 3, 2023, to retrieve relevant literature, including China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang, Chinese Scientific Journal Database (VIP), China Biology Medical literature database (CBM), PubMed, Embase, Web of Science and Cochrane Library, without restrictions on publication date or language. AMSTAR-2 and PRISMA 2020 assessed the methodological and reporting quality of included SRs/MAs. The Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) system was utilized to evaluate the quality of evidence.ResultsA total of 18 SRs/MAs were included. The methodological quality was “very low” based on AMSTAR-2. The overall reporting quality was deficient based on PRISMA 2020. The quality of Chinese and English literature differed, with English literature being superior in methodological and reporting quality. Among 93 pieces of evidence obtained, 46 (49.46%) were of very low quality, 34 (36.56%) were of low quality, 13 (13.98%) were of moderate quality, and none were of high quality. TCE was supported by 76 pieces of evidence (81.72%).ConclusionTCE appears beneficial and safe for managing KOA. However, due to the relatively low methodological and evidentiary quality of included SRs/MAs, clinicians should interpret these findings cautiously.

Exploration of Ideological and Political Practice in Foreign Literature Courses in Universities in the New Era

In the Chinese language and literature major of ordinary universities, foreign literature is the degree course and core backbone course, as well as an important battlefield for carrying out ideological and political education in courses. In the teaching process, teachers must integrate ideological and political elements from both domestic and foreign perspectives, into the teaching process and content of foreign literature from a cross-cultural perspective, to achieve a diverse unity of value shaping, knowledge transmission, and ability cultivation, and fully appreciate the educational value of foreign literature courses. Based on this, this article first analyzes the necessity of ideological and political construction in foreign literature courses, and then based on the author’s practical experience, explores the path of ideological and political practice in foreign literature courses in universities in the new era from different perspectives, aiming to provide reference for the promotion of ideological and political education in courses and the implementation of foreign literature teaching.

Is internationalization abroad a prerequisite for university students' intercultural competence development?

PurposeThis study aims to examine how intercultural competence (IC) among university students can be enhanced through two streams of higher education internationalization: internationalization abroad and internationalization at home (IaH). By doing so, it aims to improve university students' IC through identifying which factors are more effective in fostering IC.Design/methodology/approachThe study is not solely a literature review, but rather a conceptual exploration based on a selective review of the literature. Due to the exploratory nature of this study, we employed a thematic analysis approach to reviewing English language literature while incorporating relevant Chinese literature to ensure a more balanced representation.FindingsWe found that international students’ IC is influenced by their overseas learning experiences, which are closely related to the duration of stay, language proficiency, intercultural contact, university management and teachers and administrative support. On the other hand, domestic students’ IC has been influenced by various IaH experiences primarily within their home university campus, such as foreign language learning, international curriculum, extracurricular activities, communication between domestic and international students, integrated management of international students, the use of Internet and communication technology and so forth. Although a direct and definitive comparison is lacking, some comparative analyses suggest that IaH experiences may yield better results in enhancing the IC of domestic students.Originality/valueThis article advances the understanding of IC development. We call for further research that values the importance of IaH in the increasingly uncertain globalization and delves into comparative analysis of the effects of two streams of higher education internationalization.

What factors affect teacher professional learning: a qualitative meta-analysis based on the Onion model

Purpose Current academic research on teacher learning is increasing in number and deepening in quality, but at the same time, the heterogeneity is growing significantly. Similar work is challenging to cross-check regarding conclusions due to the different research foci. This paper aims to provide a reliable theoretical framework and offers solid insights based on the existing research. Design/methodology/approach Based on the Onion model, 67 core literature in English and Chinese were coded through qualitative meta-analysis methods to explore environmental, behavioral, competence, belief, identity, mission and other factors that may impact teacher learning. Findings It was found that the quantitative structure of the current relevant studies was in an inverted triangular shape with three levels of steps, respectively, which can be summarized as structural environment, core behaviors and dominant mission. The heterogeneity between the findings mainly originated from two situations, oppositional and complementary and some structural adjustments were made to the Onion model according to the coding results to better represent the interaction of influences between the levels. It also analyzes current research trends and the centrality of learned behaviors based on the coding results. Social implications The design of teacher learning activities should combine theoretical, practical and inquiry learning to ensure that teachers are kept fresh and motivated by sustained and varied stimuli. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this study is the first to analyze teacher learning influences through qualitative meta-analysis and create node saturation to analyze the results, resulting in highly credible and valuable research findings.

Metrology analysis and thoughts of literatures on tinnitus associated with sudden deafness based on CiteSpace

Objective: To explore the incidence of sudden deafness accompanied with tinnitus, the selection of examination protocols and treatment, and to provide reference for the establishment of new guidelines for sudden deafness. Methods: CiteSpace software was used for analysis and data mining to analyze and summarize the computer-retrieved articles on diagnostic examination and treatment of sudden deafness accompanied with tinnitus collected from CNIC, Wanfang and Web of Science databases from 2011 to 2021. Results: A total of 207 randomized controlled studies were retrieved in this study, including 121 in Chinese and 86 in English. Finally, 74 Chinese literatures and 16 English literatures were included. Among the 74 valid Chinese literatures, 64 (86.5%) were accompanied with tinnitus, 58 (78.4%) with dizziness/vertigo, 25 (33.8%) with aural fullness, 10 (13.5%) with headache, 4 (5.4%) with insomnia, 4 (5.4%) with a mixture of dizziness and tinnitus, and 2 (2.7%) with vomiting. Among the 16 English literatures, 15 (93.8%) were accompanied with tinnitus, 12 (75.0%) with vertigo, 1 (6.3%) with aural fullness, and 1 (6.3%) with a mixture of various symptoms. Among the 64 Chinese articles mentioning tinnitus, only 9 mentioned tinnitus matching tests, and 1 mentioned that the treatment for tinnitus accompanying symptoms was sound therapy and psychological counseling. The incidence rates of tinnitus accompanying four different types of sudden deafness, from low to high, are as follows: low-to-mid frequency, 82.4%; mid-to-high frequency, 90.7%; complete deafness, 92.4%; and flat type, 92.8%. Conclusion: Tinnitus is the most common accompanying symptom of sudden deafness, and tinnitus matching test is an effective evaluation method. When establishing a scientific, comprehensive, and systematic diagnosis and treatment system or guidelines for sudden deafness, attention should be paid to the diagnosis and treatment of tinnitus symptoms and their adverse psychological reactions, in order to reduce the incidence of tinnitus patients in the later stage of recovery from sudden deafness.

Analysis of traditional Chinese medicine syndrome elements and clinical symptoms in prediabetes: A systematic review.

Prediabetes mellitus (PDM) and impaired glucose regulation precedes diabetes and serve as early warning signals. A 2018 Chinese epidemiological survey reported prediabetes at 25.5% prevalence and type 2 diabetes at 10.8%, respectively. Untreated carries one-third of the risk of diabetes progression. This study aimed to understand traditional Chinese medicine syndromes in PDM to guide clinical practice and diabetes prevention. We systematically searched the Chinese and English literature in PubMed, EMBASE, Sinomed, CNKI, VIP, Wanfang until March 31, 2023. We manually explored the Chinese prediabetes literature, trial registrations, and references, adhering to predefined criteria. The results were independently summarized by 2 researchers. Statistical analysis was performed using EXCEL, IBM SPSS 27.0, and IBM SPSS Modeler 18.0, with data mining techniques including association and cluster analysis. Analysis of 23 clinical trials (8943 patients) identified phlegm dampness syndrome as predominant, with qi deficiency, dampness, and phlegm as the principal pathogenic elements. Spleen syndrome elements dominated, with a priori correlation analysis favoring spleen dampness. The prevalent PDM clinical symptoms include amnesia, mental fatigue, limb fatigue, dizziness, and lumbar discomfort. Prediabetes is strongly associated with spleen dampness, highlighting its role. Common traditional Chinese medicine syndrome elements include qi deficiency, phlegm, and dampness. Clinical diagnosis and treatment should prioritize syndrome differentiation and emphasize spleen-focused approaches. Although limited research exists on prediabetes syndromes, further exploration of PDM and spleen dampness is crucial.

Value Recognition: The International Communication of Shared Human Values and Aesthetics: A Case Study of the Overseas Dissemination and Reception of Chinese Literature

International communication should fundamentally aim at promoting the exchange and mutual learning of civilizations, achieving a transformation from “cultural clashes” to “civilizational exchange and mutual learning.” The manifestation of international communication that facilitates this exchange and mutual learning is that the values contained in the communication texts ultimately become integrated into the culture of the receiving party and even into human culture as a whole due to this exchange and mutual learning. Achieving civilizational exchange and mutual learning in international communication requires “value recognition” efforts between the disseminating and receiving parties, focusing on the universal values of human happiness for all, which is the “greatest common divisor” of value recognition among different receiving subjects. International communication that facilitates the exchange and mutual learning of civilizations must take the inevitable route of such international communication: the path of aesthetic communication.

Xue Baochai and Marya Bolkonskaya: a comparative analysis of the characters of the novels of Cao Xueqin and Leo Tolstoy

The article is devoted to the comparison of the images of the characters of Xue Baochai in Cao Xueqin's novel "The Dream in the Red Chamber" and Marya Bolkonskaya in Leo Tolstoy's epic "War and Peace". In Cao Xueqin's novel, a full-fledged image of Xue Baochai was created as the "ideal woman" in relation to traditional society. In the novel by L. N. Tolstoy, among a number of female images, the essence of which is revealed through the "dialectic of the soul", Marya Bolkonskaya is a woman with a kind heart and strong religious beliefs. To date, there have been no attempts in literary studies to compare the formation of a female characters in Russian and Chinese literature. It seems possible to compare two female characters in terms of their appearance and psychological traits, the philosophical ideas of the authors, as well as to identify the problem of the influence of the historical period in which the characters live. When writing the article, the method of comparative analysis was used, this allowed to identify the common and special in literary works. Using this method, similar life paths of the characters of the novels and different ways of depicting them were revealed. The novelty of the research lies in an attempt to compare the images of the characters of two literary masterpieces describing different eras and countries. The main conclusions of the author of the article are as follows: Cao Xueqin, who was influenced by traditional Chinese ideas, created a complex and tragic image of Xue Baochai and revealed the nature of the position of a woman within the framework of feudal social relations; L. N. Tolstoy, in the process of creating the image of Mary Bolkonskaya, followed Christian ideals, endowing the character with virtues; Due to the difference of the authors' life experiences and ideological views, as well as the socio-economic conditions of their formation and development, the fates of the characters of their works also differ.

Fostering Creative Problem-Solving Abilities in Chinese Language and Literature Majors

This paper discusses the importance and necessity of fostering creative problem-solving abilities among Chinese language and literature majors. Traditional teaching methods such as lecturing have limitations in cultivating students' creative problem-solving abilities, lacking open-minded thinking training and interdisciplinary practices. The evolution of Chinese language and literature education from emphasizing language rhetoric to literary history is analyzed for its impact on student capability development. To effectively enhance students' creative thinking and practical problem-solving skills, the recommendation is to introduce diversified methods and interdisciplinary training in teaching, enabling students to flexibly apply literary knowledge to address real-world issues. This reform not only contributes to cultivating well-rounded professionals in the field of literature but also provides crucial support for societal and literary research advancement.

Research on the Management and Development Strategy of the Zibo Ceramic and Glass Museum

Purpose – In contemporary China, the promotion of the cultural and art industry is advocated. The cultural and art industry is rapidly expanding into various fields in China with increasingly strong momentum, establishing itself as a leader in Chinese art. accompanied by the quiet rise of culture and art, art museums in China have also emerged. there is a growing demand for the construction of cultural and art spaces by all sectors of society. Design/Methodology/Approach – Based on the management development strategy of the Zibo Ceramic and Glass Museum, according to the cultural and artistic characteristics and style of Zibo, this research adopts the following research methods when writing. the researcher uses the literature research method, by reading a large amount of ancient and modern Chinese and foreign literature, from which it can be glimpsed which aspects of the Zibo Ceramic and Glass Museum can absorb and learn from. Findings – Under the trend of China increasingly valuing the empowerment of the cultural and art industry, people are increasingly welcoming the cultural and art industry with an open attitude, and cultural and creative museums to appreciate and feel the sensory and spiritual enjoyment that the artistic atmosphere brings to them. Research Implications – This study focuses on analyzing the management development strategy of the Zibo Ceramic and Glass Museum. this research focuses on demonstrating the current development status of the Zibo Ceramic and Glass Museum and the setbacks encountered in the development process.

Islamization of the Term “清真” (Qing Zhen): Its Analysis for Purity and Authenticity for Muslim in China

This paper aims at examining the meaning of the two Chinese characters “清” (Qing) and “真” (Zhen” once used singly as well as combined together in the Chinese classical literatures in order to show why and how the Chinese Muslim scholars have applied and Islamized them for interpreting Islam by the Confucian ways and Taoist methods at the civilization and culture dialogue level. Further, the paper also demonstrates the evolution of “Qing Zhen” which has eventually become a special term for Muslims in China and how its connotations have currently been limited and restricted. Meanwhile, the paper discusses the related critical issues, such as the epistemology of the Ḥalāl Food and its legislation in China. Lastly, the author comes with some humble suggestions which tie with the results of the study by wishing for Muslims, in China or anywhere else, to reexamine their conducts and to reconsider how to inherit Islam as well as how to hand it down to the next generation.
