Research skills are important and relevant for management, because they allow to make informed decisions. The involvement of young people in science is very relevant in our country today and requires a set of activities with initiatives and projects of talented heroes in the field of research and development. The management of the process of organizing research activities begins with the support of the country's leadership, which, increasing the level of popularization of scientific activity, announced the next period 2022-2031, the decade of science and technology in Russia. Therefore, in his article, the author examines the effectiveness of youth involvement in research activities at different levels, starting from school, obtaining professional education, admission to postgraduate and doctoral studies. The results of the work are based on the relevant approaches reflected in the authors' publications published in the abstract database eLIBRARY for 2018-2023, to the definition of the concept of the effectiveness of youth involvement in research activities. Summarizing the opinions of scientists, the author compiled a classification of indicators, which formed the basis of the author's model of managing the effectiveness of the organization of research work of students and the author's standard system for evaluating the effectiveness of student involvement in research work, can be adapted to any organization (scientific, educational or industrial), correcting the proposed or adding their own criteria and assessments.

Dental teaching faculty involvement in research activities.

This study aimed to examine personal and professional factors in determining the research activity and research culture among dental teaching faculty members in Hyderabad City, Telangana. Two dental schools with ongoing dental undergraduate and postgraduate programmes were included in the study. The Research and Development (R&D) Culture Index Questionnaire comprising 16 items was employed for this study. Also, self-reported research activity undertaken in the past twelve months was recorded. The association of demographic variables and professionally related variables with the perception of R&D culture and participation in research activities was assessed using the Chi-square test. A P value was set at 0.05. Of the one-hundred and fifteen faculty members who participated in the study, seventy-four (64.4%) worked in the government sector and forty-one (35.6%) in privately funded dental college. The mean age of the study population was 34.11 + 7.13 years. The majority of them presented a paper or poster at the conference (66.1%; 76) followed by publishing paper in peer-review journal (42.6%; 49) and grant application for research (6.1%; 7), and authoring of a textbook was undertaken by only 2.6% of the study population. Males (61.1%; P = 0.04) and those employed in private dental college (65.8%; P = 0.02) had significantly high levels of overall perception than their respective counterparts. Our study concludes that this study population has a positive perception (50.32 + 6.95) towards research with the majority of them having done a paper or poster publication (66.1%) in the last one year.

The article is devoted to the problem of developing the research potential (RP) of university students. Basing on the results of empirical study, the authors analyze the correlation between indicators of research potential and university students’ personality characteristics as predictors of its development. Methodologically the study was based on the structural-functional approach and the model of the research potential of students’ personality proposed by N.V. Bordovskaya, S.N. Kostromina, S.I. Rozum, N.L. Moskvicheva. The study employed the survey method (a questionnaire developed by the authors was used) and the psychodiagnostic method using a set of techniques: the questionnaire of N.V. Bordovskaya and co-authors «Methodology for assessing research potential», «Test of meaningful life orientations» adapted by D.A. Leontiev, «Assessment of the level of claims» by V.K. Gerbachevsky, and «Determination of the level of self-esteem» by S.V. Kovalev. A correlation analysis of the obtained empirical data was carried out with the calculation of the Pearson coefficient. The questionnaire survey revealed that outside of academic tasks university students demonstrate little interest and involvement in research activities. The correlation study shows the interconnection between the components of the research potential and the level of aspirations, self-esteem and meaningful life orientations of the university students’ personality. The identified personal characteristics of university students act as predictors of the development of research potential, which provides a basis for the development of psychological and pedagogical technologies considering the correlation between RP components and meaningful life orientations and indicators of the locus of control of the Self, the core of the motivational structure of the personality, predictive assessments of activity.

Knowledge, Attitude and Perceived barrier towards Medical Research among Undergraduates and Postgraduates Medical Students of Nepalgunj Medical College

Introduction: Medical science is one of the most advance and modern technology over the course of time period with extensive research and scientific knowledge of human body and health care to make incredible changes enabling the population remain healthy with mere absence of disease or infirmity. Research is considered as one of the useful measures to track the scientific advancement of a country. Promoting research skills in undergraduate and post graduate medical students help to develop scientific advancement in medical field of a country.
 Aims: To assess knowledge, attitude, and perceived barriers among undergraduate and postgraduate medical students.
 Methods: An institutional based cross sectional analytical study covering total 224 undergraduate and postgraduate medical students of Nepalgunj Medical College was from January 2022 to April 2022. A pre tested, pre designed, sets of questionnaire were provided to all recruited participants after obtaining informed written consent. Then informations generated by the study were analyzed for scientific result by using descriptive analysis and independent T- test.
 Results: Male students were 135(60.3%) whereas female students were 89(39.7%) only. The mean knowledge score was 33.69 ± 3.8 and mean attitude score was 19.67 ± 2.34. The average 100(44.6%) had good knowledge and 118(52.7%) had positive attitude towards medical research. Most common perceived barrier was not having proper mentoring and research familiarity. Seventy Six(39.6%) undergraduate students had behavioral hesitation to participate in research while 21(65.6%) post graduate students showed social factor as one of the hesitancy to involve in research.
 Conclusion: Most of the participants had good knowledge regarding research and expressed positive attitude toward involvement in research activity. Some of barriers were lack of funds, awareness and research skills. This study would improve scientific knowledge and research skills for academicians and clinicians too.

Teachers' perception towards research at Nursing Institute, Rabat, Morocco

In Morocco, nursing education is currently undergoing a major evolution, allowing training institutes to comply with the higher education system. As a result, there is an emerging need for additional training in the form of a Master's degree and a PhD. This provides an opportunity to aspire to an academic and especially a research qualification, and gives an interesting impulse to teaching and research in nursing. This study sought to investigate teachers' perception towards research at the Higher Institute of Nursing Professions and Technics of Health in Rabat. A cross-sectional survey started in Avril 15th 2021 and completed in May10th 2021 was used with a convenience sample of teachers from the High Institute of Nursing Professions and Technics of Health in Rabat and It’s Kenitra annex. Data analysis was performed using the software Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 20. Chi Square test and value at 95% confidence level were used to measure the association between study variables and the teachers research perception. Significance was when 𝑝≤0.05. A total of 77 teachers enrolled in this study. 55.8% were aged 30 to 40 years old, 68.8% were female, 57.1% had a master diploma and 60% had more than 5 years teaching experience. Analyses showed that the most correlated variable were age respectively with research motivation (p=0.03), having research skills (p=0.04) and the fact that the research is stressful (p=0.02). The correlations are significant between the level of education, research skills (p=0.04) and research is stressful (p<0.001). Significant association was demonstrated between training in research methodology and the development of research skills. Research experience was correlated with both research skills (p=0.02) and perception of research as stressful (p<0.001). Despite positive participant’s perception towards research, their lack of skills and educational training in research may influences their involvement in research activities. These shortcomings could be reduced by additional education, support, improved communication, and opportunities to undertake research activities.

Introduction. The article presents the results of the philosophical discussion with high school students, considers the problems and prospects for conducting classes in philosophy with children, and proposes original teaching methods that repre- sent a synthesis of philosophical, pedagogical and research approaches. The purpose of the article is to demonstrate the relevance of the ideas, methods and approaches of philosophy with children in the context of modern philosophical, pedagogical and research problems. Research methods are based on the theoretical principles of hermeneutic-phenomenological and psychoanalytic approaches to the interpretation and structural-semiotic analysis of linguistic state- ments. The scientific novelty of the research lies in devel- oping the author’s approach to holding philosophi- cal discussions with schoolchildren, which carries out the synthesis of philosophical-pedagogical and research teaching methods. Results and conclusions. As a result of the study, a conclusion is made about the relevance and demand for such classes of philosophy with children related to interdisciplinary trajectories of its development, the search for effective teaching strategies focused on the comprehensive develop- ment of children and their involvement in research activities.

Principlism and citizen science: the possibilities and limitations of principlism for guiding responsible citizen science conduct

Citizen science (CS) has been presented as a novel form of research relevant for social concerns and global challenges. CS transforms the roles of participants to being actively involved at various stages of research processes, CS projects are dynamic, and pluralism arises when many non-professional researchers take an active involvement in research. Some argue that these elements all make existing research ethical principles and regulations ill-suited for guiding responsible CS conduct. However, while many have sought to highlight such challenges from CS, few have discussed principles per se providing the foundation for regulations. In this article we will investigate the possibilities of midlevel principlism in guiding responsible CS conduct. Principlism has the potential of accommodating many of the concerns taken to reduce the relevance of existing principles.

Increasing mathematics students' involvement in research activities at teacher education universities

The paper explores the problem of creating interest in mathematics students' research endeavors at teacher preparation institutions. The purpose of the study is to determine whether it is possible to organize students' scientific investigation using the 5E Instructional Model during a workshop on approximation theory and the Fourier series. The study takes into account the survey responses from the students who assisted in assessing the workshop participants' emotional states. The Differential Emotion Scale, a tool for expressing evaluations of positive and negative emotionality, was used to gather the data. The benefits of the atmosphere created by the 5E Instructional Model on students' emotional states and how it shapes their motivation in scientific inquiry when setting up workshop classes are covered in the article. We have reason to believe that running workshops based on the 5E Instructional Model is effective. The students' involvement throughout the session and enthusiasm in research activities increased as a result of the index reduction of their negative feelings.

Awareness of and attitudes towards public involvement in research on ageing and health among older people in Sweden.

BackgroundWhile the importance of involving older people in research is increasingly acknowledged, quantitative studies exploring the perspectives of larger samples of older people who take an active role in research on ageing and health are scarce. The aim of this study was to investigate the awareness of and attitudes towards public involvement in research on ageing and health among older people in Sweden.Materials and methodsData derived from a survey (N = 881) of people aged 60 years or older in Sweden. Demographics, self-rated health, and attitudes were analysed using descriptive statistics. Awareness of and previous active involvement in research were analysed using chi-square tests and Mann Whitney tests. Factors associated with willingness to be actively involved in research were determined by logistic regressions.ResultsOf the 26% who responded (N = 881), 39% (n = 343) were aware that they could be actively involved in research. Awareness and previous active involvement in research were significantly associated with a higher level of education. Public involvement was believed to enhance research communication and enable valuable contributions related to ageing. The proportion of respondents who were willing to be actively involved in research was significantly higher for respondents with previous experience and a higher level of education.ConclusionsEngaging older people in Sweden in research targeting active involvement in research presents a challenge. The study shows an over-representation of people with higher education, who tend to be more aware, have previous experience, and are more willing to be involved in research with public involvement. This implies a risk that groups with lower education are not represented, and that knowledge co-produced with mostly highly educated groups will lead to a biased picture. Statistical modelling of the impact of online courses in higher education on sustainable development

PurposeThe concept of sustainable development (SD) is a popular response to society’s need to preserve and extend the life span of natural resources. One of the 17 goals of the SD is “education quality” (Fourth Goal of Sustainable Development [SDG-4]). Education quality is an important goal because education is a powerful force that can influence social policies and social change. The SDG-4 must be measured in different contexts, and the tools to quantify its effects require exploration. So, this study aims to propose a statistical model to measure the impact of higher education online courses on SD and a structural equation model (SEM) to find constructs or factors that help us explain a sustainability benefits rate. These proposed models integrate the three areas of sustainability: social, economic and environmental.Design/methodology/approachA beta regression model suggests features that include the academic and economic opportunities offered by the institution, the involvement in research activities and the quality of the online courses. A structural equation modelling (SEM) analysis allowed selecting the key variables and constructs that are strongly linked to the SD.FindingsOne of the key findings showed that the benefit provided by online courses in terms of SD is 62.99% higher than that of offline courses in aspects such as transportation, photocopies, printouts, books, food, clothing, enrolment fees and connectivity.Research limitations/implicationsThe SEM model needs large sample sizes to have consistent estimations. Thus, despite the obtained estimations in the proposed SEM model being reliable, the authors consider that a limitation of this study was the required time to collect data corresponding to the estimated sample size.Originality/valueThis study proposes two novel and different ways to estimate the sustainability benefits rate focused on SDG-4, and machine learning tools are implemented to validate and gain robustness in the estimations of the beta model. Additionally, the SEM model allows us to identify new constructs associated with SDG-4.

Attitudes and Practices Regarding Research among Romanian Medical Undergraduate Students.

Objectives: This study focuses on the assessment of attitudes and practices regarding research among undergraduate medical students from Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed thorough anonymous questionnaires (May–June 2018) among 510 third- and fifth-year students of Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy from Cluj-Napoca, Romania. Results: More than 60% of the third- and fifth-year students declared that they were interested and willing to perform research during medical studies, while more than two-thirds were interested in doing so after graduation. In total, 6% of third-year students and 31% of fifth-year students declared that they had prepared a scientific presentation for a medical congress at least once. Around 9% of the third-year students contributed to the writing of a scientific article and participated in research projects. Among fifth-year students, one-quarter were involved in writing scientific papers, and 21% participated in research projects. Conclusions: To the best of our knowledge, this study assesses, for the first time in Romania, the perspectives and behaviors of medical undergraduate students with regard to involvement in research activities. The results show that Romanian medical students value opportunities for conducting research, which encourages institutional initiatives that support their involvement in curricular and extracurricular research activities.

Integration of school and university resources in the training of future defectologists

Subject of research: the article contains theoretical and practical material about one of the acute problems of higher defectological education – the quality of training of young specialists coming to a modern school to work with students with disabilities. Method, methodology of research: the paper considers a practice-oriented approach to the university training of students-defectologists as one of the ways to improve the quality of professional training, which involves expanding the scope of cooperation of higher education institutions with general education organizations, integrating the resources available to them for the formation of professional competencies of future defectologists. The joint work of higher education organizations and general education institutions ensures an increase in the level of training of students-defectologists according to modern practice requirements, and the school gives the opportunity in the future to get a young specialist, motivated, involved in solving the problems of the modern education system. The novelty of the research: the experience of interaction between a higher education institution and an educational organization carrying out educational activities according to programs adapted for students with disabilities in the field of training future defectologists is analyzed and summarized. The potential and forms of such interaction, its influence on the formation of professional competencies of special pedagogical personnel are revealed. Conclusions: the constructive interaction between the school and the higher educational institution, the joint solution of tasks for the training of future defectologists within the framework of a practice-oriented approach should be carried out in different directions, such as: organization of different types of practice; involvement in research activities of both students and school staff; analysis and generalization of scientific, practical and scientific-methodological experience of educational organizations.

Mapping the State of the Art to Envision the Future of Large-Scale Citizen Science Projects: An Interpretive Review

Citizen science, i.e. citizens’ involvement in research activities, is achieving an increasing re-levance across disparate scientific domains. However, literature is not consistent in arguing citizen science’s attributes and implications when large-scale projects are concerned. The paper systematizes extant scientific knowledge in this field and identifies avenues for further deve-lopments through a bibliometric analysis and an interpretive review. Various approaches to citizen science are implemented to engage citizens in scientific research. They can be located in a continuum composed of two extremes: a contributory approach, which serves research institutions’ needs, and an open science approach, which focuses on citizens’ active participation in knowledge co-creation. Although contributory citizen science paves the way for participatory science, it falls short in empowering citizens, which is central in the open science approach. Interventions aimed at enabling citizens to have an active role in co-creating knowledge in a perspective of science democratization are key to overcoming the understanding of citizen science as a low-cost model of scientific research and to boost the transition towards an open science approach.

DIAGNOSIS WITH THE HACKATHON ECOSYSTEM OF THE UNIVERSITY OF THE READINESS OF STUDENTS FOR RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES. The changes in society associated with the country's transition to an innovative way of development radically change the nature and goals of labor activity. Profession under such conditions is considered by a person as a source of material well-being and gaining the desired social status. Professional self-determination occurs too late or is realized as forced, so the lack of opportunity to realize one's professional preferences has a negative impact on the individual and on society as a whole. As a result, in recent decades there has been a significant increase in the requirements of modern employers to the professional training of graduates of educational institutions. A young specialist must improve in the profession, be ready to change professional activity, i.e. be socially and professionally mobile, scientifically established, which can be realized with the help of Hackathon-ecosystem.METHODS. Collection of information, survey of students and teachers were carried out using a systematic approach on the basis of the Hackathon ecosystem. Processing of the obtained information, definition of scientific statements, generation of conclusions and practical recommendations were carried out with the help of the software product "Methodology of studying students' adaptation to dual education in higher education".FINDINGS. It is proved that the research activity of students is a necessary condition for their professional self-determination, acts as part of a holistic, long-term, dynamic process of entry into the profession and as a result of the choice and design of their future professional activity. Students' involvement in research activity largely determines the effectiveness of their social and professional development.CONCLUSION. Research activity of university students is an effective means of forming knowledge, abilities and skills necessary for personal and professional self-determination. It not only stimulates and motivates personal and intellectual development, contributes to the continuation of education, proves the degree of its readiness and acts as one of the guarantors of the success of the process of professional self-determination in general.

FORMATION OF RESEARCH COMPETENCE OF HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS

The article considers the possibilities of forming the research competence of high school students. It is highlighted that research competence reveals the level of development of students’ thinking processes and research activity. It is determined that the essence of research competence is to highlight the personal traits of students, which are expressed in the conscious willingness and ability to independently master and acquire systems of new knowledge, based on previously acquired set of knowledge, skills, abilities and methods. It was found that research competence can be formed only in the process of research. The key concepts that determine the necessary conditions for the organization of such activities of students in school are search, independence, initiative, practical action, experiment, teamwork, the situation of ambiguity, contradictions, the presence of different points of view. It has been proven that involvement in research activities is related to the level of readiness for it, which can be characterized by motivational, cognitive, procedural, creative and reflective-evaluation component. It is determined that the effective means of realization of the professional orientation of teaching physics are the emphasis of students on the universality of physical methods; use of practical tasks that illustrate the need for physical knowledge in different situations; use of interdisciplinary links. It was found that for the formation of research competence a special place in the physics course of primary school should be given to educational and research tasks. The importance of the competence approach in the educational process is shown. The concepts of “research competence” and “research activity” are revealed and the connection between them is shown. The research assignments and tasks that can be used during the teaching of physics in primary school in order to form the research competence are proposed.

НАСЛЕДИЕ САРМАТОВ В ПРАКТИКЕ ФОРМИРОВАНИЯ ПРОЕКТНОЙ КУЛЬТУРЫ БУДУЩЕГО ДИЗАЙНЕРА КОСТЮМА

Project culture as a “superlevel of the project process” (O.I. Genisaretsky) begins to form in the professional education of the future designer with his active involvement in research activities and understanding of its value. A pre-project study based on the analysis of historical, value, socio-cultural, environmental and other contexts makes it possible to temporarily abstract from the practical and methodological approach, which is exceptionally key in understanding students at the initial stage of training. The presence of weak ideas about the above-mentioned contexts limits the functions of design in improving the environment and developing culturally significant processes in society. Therefore, an important pedagogical task is to involve the student in solving socio-ecological, ethno-cultural, spiritual and practical problems in project practice. The typology of value-semantic problem-project tasks developed at the Department of Design of Orenburg State University, involving the performance of extensive research work, reflecting the socio-cultural significance of the design industry and regional specifics, as well as actualizing the subjective position of the future designer, in our opinion, ensures the professional and personal development of the student and the formation of his project culture. Among them are level research tasks in the discipline “Conceptual Design”, tasks for the phased implementation of a conceptual idea in the discipline “Project execution in the material”, a set of questions, tasks and tests for independent research and self-control. The fund of these humanitarian-oriented project tasks also includes the topics of final qualifying works. The article presents the logic of the implementation of the diploma project of modern women’s clothing based on the material culture of the Sarmatians. The creation of such a collection requires a deep immersion of the future designer into the life and way of life of the people, the use of various methods of scientific research, in the extrapolation of cultural heritage to modernity and the value self-determination of the student necessary for the personal implementation of the project process. As a result, axiological, ecological, cognitive and other components of the design culture of the future designer are formed.

Students' self-assessment on the influence of research on their education in medical schools

Abstract Background The reform of medical education and the introduction of the Bologna process into the higher medical school of the university changed the views on the research component in the process of studying a student in Kazakhstan following the principles of Soviet teaching of a medical school student. Methods A questionnaire was developed based on the AGREE methodology. The questionnaire is posted on the SurveyMonkey online questionnaire resource. A total of 1,439 university's students participated in the survey. Results About 85% of students in medical schools of universities in Kazakhstan agree on the trinity ‘science - education - practice' - the main principle of teaching students. When answering the question “Teachers at the university, when conducting lessons and lectures, always provide information about new research results,” 63% of respondents agree with this. About 77% of students believe that research is of high quality at the university. 78% of respondents noted the availability of research infrastructure at the university. About 80% of the respondents answered positively to the question of the relevance of research topics at the university. Students' participation in the research was assessed by them at a low level (about 45% of positive answers versus 51% of negative answers). Conclusions Analysis of the current situation on student participation in research in medical schools of universities in Kazakhstan shows an insufficient level of student involvement in research activities and an insufficient commitment of universities to the principle of the trinity of science, education and practice. Students who are actively and productively engaged in research have professional competencies in using the acquired knowledge, skills and abilities in practice than their colleagues who are not involved in research. Key messages The insufficient level of student involvement in research activities reflects the insufficient commitment of universities to the principle of the trinity of science, education and practice. Early involvement of students in research allows to generate their professional competence ispolzovanieya acquired knowledge and skills in practice.

Publication Output of Lecturers in Library Schools, Nigeria

In recent times, there has been an observed stagnation of lecturers in terms of academic level growth and non-promotion, which is linked with publication output. This necessitated the investigation of LIS lecturers’ publication output in universities in Nigeria. The descriptive design was adopted using an online questionnaire, which yielded 86 responses. Data generated were analyzed using simple percentages, Tukey HSD tests, and ANOVA. The study revealed that the productivity of LIS lecturers is based on their area of specialty and interest. Factors such as promotion, contribution to knowledge, peer recognition, salary improvement, and staying current (consistency/complete involvement in research activities) were the major reasons that they publish. Time constraints, poor interpretation skills, exorbitant publication fees by journal editorials, and the high rejection rate of manuscripts by journals hinder publications. Statistical significance was observed in the number of publications of LIS lecturers from library schools in various geopolitical areas. The study therefore recommends that financial support from both government and non-governmental organizations should be made available to lecturers. Such funds should be accessible with the provision that there be appropriate feedback on research progress. Departments and institutions can also organize seminars or symposia on the need to collaborate in research, and outline steps on the preparation of manuscripts suitable for publication in reputable journals to avoid rejection by journal editorial boards. There should also be a reduction of workload for lecturers through the provision of work leave/vacation for some period of time to ease work and research tension.

Chinese higher education-based physical education teacher educators’ professional learning needs for involvement in research activities

ABSTRACT Research activity is one of the key professional learning needs noted by teacher educators working in higher education. The purpose of this study is to explore what research activities Chinese higher education-based physical education teacher educators (PETEds) prioritised and, in turn, expressed their aligned research-related professional learning needs. A sample of 15 Chinese higher education-based PETEds was interviewed. The results conveyed that Chinese PETEds had a strong desire to avail of research-related professional learning activities, with the majority prioritising peer-review publication. The motives for PETEds to be involved in research tend to be extrinsic to the individual and include pressures aligned to the evaluation of their academic position and institute requirements. PETEds who entered teacher education with a PhD were expected and supported to do research, while PETEds without a PhD requested opportunities to undertake a PhD abroad. While it was easier for PETEds to undertake collaborative research with a research group within their faculty/department, there was a lack of collaborative research external to the faculty/department as well as a lack of international collaboration.

Statistical literacy and scientific reasoning & argumentation in physicians.

Objective: Statistical literacy (SL) of physicians, i.e. the ability to use and interpret statistical numbers in the context of science, is an essential prerequisite for risk estimation and communication. Together with scientific reasoning and argumentation (SRA) skills, SL provides the basis for evidence-based practice. Several studies suggest that in medical students both skills are underdeveloped. The aim of the present study was to investigate these skills in practicing physicians and how these skills were acquired. Methods: Data collection in N=71 physicians was conducted online and as paper pencil. SL was assessed with multiple-choice items. SRA skills evidence evaluation and drawing conclusions were measured with a decision scenario. Results: Study results indicated that physicians have medium levels of SL (M=17.58, SD=6.92, max 30 pts.) and SRA (evidence evaluation: M=7.75, SD=1.85, max 10 pts.; drawing conclusions: M=37.20, SD=5.35, max 60 pts.). Skills development via autodidactic learning activities (M=4.78, SD=1.13, range 1-6) was reported significantly more often than development during formal medical education (M=2.31, SD=1.46), t(71)=-9.915, p<.001, or in extracurricular activities (M=3.34, SD=1.87), t(71)=4.673, p<.001. The active involvement in research seemed decisive: The number of publications and time spent in research significantly correlated with SL, r(71)=.355, p=.002; respectively r(71)=.280, p=.018. SRA skills were predicted by the type of MD-thesis, β=-.380, p=.016, and working in research, β=3.355, p=.008. Conclusion: Active involvement in research activities seems to be a very important factor for the development of both SL and SRA skills. The implementation of systematic fostering of these skills during formal medical education seems warranted.
