As we know, language is a cultural carrier. Different social backgrounds and national cultures have a great effect on the cultural connotations of idiom. Along with the development and progress of human society, animal words gradually have got their established connotations in all languages. However, the connotations of animal words in one language do not necessarily coincide with those in another because of geographical environment, convention, history, and religion in different cultures. Therefore, this paper intends to take the Chinese Zodiac as a research object from a cross-cultural perspective to explore the differences in animal culture between China and the West. By comparing factors such as social customs, religious beliefs, and natural environment, explore several methods of translating animal idiom so as to promote smooth cross-cultural communication and provide references for related research.

Research on Translation Strategies of MOBA Games from the Perspective of Intercultural Communication: A Case Study of League of Legends

In the context of global integration, the communication and connection between countries around the world are increasingly intimate, and electronic sports are flourishing on a global scale. Most popular e-sports games in the current market are developed by foreign companies. When these games are introduced to China, local companies often perform localization adaptations. Game localization involves several steps, including language translation, image adaptation, technical adjustments and cultural adaptation. Among them, language translation serves as the foundation of localization, and its quality directly affects the games acceptance and sales performance in the local market. This paper, based on the perspective of intercultural communication, takes League of Legends as an example. It conducts a case analysis of language translation in the game, including character names, character lines, weapon skills, etc., from five dimensions: text, voice, vocabulary, grammar, and rhetoric. It summarizes practical translation strategies for MOBA games, aiming to provide theoretical guidance for game translators and improve the quality of game localization.

AN ANALYSIS OF INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION IN A CLASSROOM WITH A WIDE RANGE OF CULTURAL AND LINGUISTIC BACKGROUNDS

Intercultural communication has become essential for human relationships, collaboration, and understanding in a wide range of areas, including but not limited to science, politics, economics, journalism, psychology, and education. This is due to the dynamic integration of diverse cultures all over the globe. More specifically, how communication between different cultures occurs within a scope, such educational institutions need to be a main priority for educators and instructors concerned about effective communication throughout the teaching and learning process. This study is supplemented with dimensional descriptions of intercultural communication in a culturally and linguistically varied school. Qualitative data recovered from a teacher's holistic perspective of intercultural communication provides a vivid illustration of cultural reactivity in terms of language, identity, and local customs. Furthermore, the reflection technique serves as a mirror for the instructor, allowing them to "look" again at all of the pedagogical concerns that pertain to the curriculum and the tactics. In addition, the article helps ensure that educators' voices are heard when confronted with the positive and negative aspects of communication in multicultural environments.

On the mechanism of dialogue of cultural contexts from the perspective of intercultural communication

The dialogue mechanism of translation cultural context is a pattern of the translation process in which the source linguistic and cultural context and the target linguistic and cultural context interact through dialogue. This pattern includes the domestication of weak dialogue, the foreignisation of strong dialogue, and the harmonisation of equal dialogue. The three mechanisms of dialogue are related to intercultural sensitivity, cultural adaptation goes through three stages: culture shock, cultural adaptation, and cultural coexistence, which are the basis of domestication, foreignisation, and harmonisation. In the initial stage of intercultural communication, the barriers of cultural differences are encountered, and culture shock occurs. The same happens in the translation process, where the translator usually uses the strategy of domestication to reduce the cultural shock of the reader of the translation. In the middle and late stages of intercultural communication, the communicators gradually adapt to the other culture and begin to form or have already formed a cultural identity with it. Accordingly, in the translation process, the translator often uses the strategy of foreignisation to satisfy the cultural adaptation of the translation reader. Different cultures do not have a hierarchy, valuation, or superiority over each other. They are independent, have their own advantages, complement each other, and coexist harmoniously. In the practice of translation, when faced with the conflict between two cultures, a harmonisation strategy based on the idea of “striving for unity while preserving differences” is used to maintain the independence of one's own culture and cooperate with the other culture to achieve proper joint agreement. The balance between domestication and foreignisation is a state to be achieved in the process of intercultural communication.

Babaytseva, in whose grammatical teaching one of the most important concepts is syncretism. An attempt is made to reveal the similarities and differences between the two concepts and to prove the mental preparedness of the Chinese to perceive the theory of transitivity and the concept syncretism of V.V. Babaytseva. In the process of analysis, etymological and comparative methods are used to clarify the similarities and differences between the philosophical tradition of Chinese culture and the content of the concept representing the essence of grammatical theory. The term “syncretism” in linguistics has a special meaning, is an important concept in the theory of transitivity and reflects its main content. The concept of 中 (zhong) reflects the mental characteristic of the Chinese, for whom the intermediate part is often more important than the extreme points. We assume that in Chinese culture and communication is provided the basis for Chinese to perceive this Russian linguistic theory. The principles of Chinese philosophy lay the mental foundation for the Chinese perception of the theory of transitivity and syncretism and confirm the possibility of their application in the practice of teaching Russian in China

Based on the perspective of intercultural communication, this paper firstly elaborates on the importance of teaching English translation of canonical books, then discusses the teaching strategies of the English translation of canonical books under the perspective of intercultural communication, and verifies the effectiveness and practicability of the strategies through the application practice, to help students better understand and translate canonical books, and further improve their intercultural communication skills.

BRIDGING CULTURES: INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION IN PUBLIC RELATIONS FOR JAKARTA PRACTITIONERS

This research aims to describe how public relations practitioners apply intercultural communication competence, who have worked in government institutions, mass media, hospitality, and other organizations with a diversity of ethnic and cultural members, and also should have specific competence to solve their problem communication in all daily activities. This research is based on an intercultural communication perspective, and interpersonal competence of public relations, with the research method being a case study, interviewing technique for gathering data, and qualitative descriptive analysis.Five key informants invited with different background organizations described that they have worked in public relations functions and follow the mechanism of intercultural communication competencies, such as motivation to communicate, sufficient knowledge of culture, appropriate communication skills, sensitivity, and character. The research result describes five competencies that have applied in their professional communication activities, especially building good relationships, mapping cultural background, having a high motivation to communicate with others, practicing relevant communication when they encounter several difficulties, then always trying to understand the psychology of others when they start to communicate, in formal or informal situation. Then, in the process of anticipating so as not to experience frustration or culture shock with communication partners from different cultures, the speakers also made adaptations, making relevant adjustments, based on the current situation, in the form of speaking in general, discussing local products, discussing the latest issues. and optimize social media. It becomes a medium to reduce the inconvenience of communicating due to differences in culture and background.

The Concept of Miracle in Religious Discourse (Semantic Features of Russian and Chinese Cultures in the Perspective of Intercultural Communication)

The relevance of studying the processes of religious consciousness comes from the importance to ensure more coordinated interaction of scientific communities in intercultural communication. The PRC remains one of the key partners of the Russian Federation and partnership requires deeper understanding of the counterpart. This paper analyses social phenomena classified as miracles in Russian and Chinese cultures from the perspective of intercultural communication. To achieve this goal, the authors 1) highlight key theoretical approaches to the study of the semantics of miracle; 2) systematize the available data on key concepts and denotations of the semantics of miracle in Russian culture and supplement existing approaches; 3) establish the key features of the semantics of miracle in Chinese culture; 4) outline approaches to creating a sketch of a universal semantic model of a miracle as an invariant of two cultures; 5) identify the capabilities and boundaries of this model. The research materials included corpuses of national folklore traditions, legal documents, literary and theological works, and scientific (mainly religious) studies. The methodological framework was formed by the approach of N. Luhmann, who defined religion as a variety of forms of the universal anthropological phenomenon of observing of the unknown. Distinguishing descriptions of the first (naive), second (expert) and third (philosophical-synthetic) order, represented by the corresponding languages L1, L2 and L3, allowed to identify the terms traditionally related to the sphere of religion (L1) and to trace their descriptions (L2) and reflection in L1 and L2 within the framework of philosophical and theological writings (L3). As a result, several historically specific interpretations of the concept and the denotations behind it have been identified. They include both universal similarity and local features determined by the historical development of Russian and Chinese societies. For Russia, these features are inextricably linked with the influence of Christianity, where a distinction is made between elitist theological forms and mass believes, often referred to as superstitions. The main lexemes marking the miraculous in Chinese are 奇迹 (qíjì), reflecting the phenomenon of the amazing, surprising; 神迹 (shénjì), applied to the miraculous, God-like, spiritual, but not witches or sorcerers; 妙 (miào) as an aesthetic perception of a miracle, including an incomprehensible mystery; 灵 (líng) marks the supernatural, emanating from the earthly principle yin, therefore associated with folk witchcraft and sorcery. It has been established that in both Russian and Chinese culture, miracle is always combined with a certain worldview (L1), with a complex of ontological statements (L2). Experts (L3) typically turn to the prism of religious disciplines and/or teachings that analyze the correspondence of worldview, ontological constructs and lived religious experience. The sketch of the universal semantic field that makes up the intersecting concepts of Russian and Chinese cultures, obtained as a result of the research, needs further clarification by turning to the sociology of religion and the psychology of religion.

Digital communication between superiors and subordinates in Borneo Export and Import Trading Company (Intercultural communication perspective)

This research aims to find out how to smoothly establish digital communication between supervisors and subordinates who have different cultures and languages in PT Borneo Export and Import Trade Company. PT Borneo Export and Import Trade is a company involved in the food and beverage industry, especially in the swallow's nest health food. This research uses transactional analysis theory to see the extent of communication between superiors and subordinates effectively and uses bureaucratic theory to see the communication patterns that exist between superiors and subordinates at PT Borneo Export and Import Trade. This research uses a qualitative method with a constructivist approach to see the social reality of the case. According to the findings of the study, there are indeed barriers in this intercultural communication, but intercultural communication is successfully carried out by using digital communication, namely using Google Translate application as translation.

Through a comparative analysis of two Chinese translations of Tara Westovers Educated: A Memoir by Ren Aihong and the Taiwanese version it investigates the utilization of domestication and foreignization strategies in book title translation. This study bridges the gap between intercultural communication theory and translation practice. By scrutinizing these distinct translated versions, the research elucidates the effectiveness of employing appropriate translation strategies. It underscores that when chosen thoughtfully, these strategies facilitate the transmission of cultural nuances and linguistic styles encapsulated in the original titles. This, in turn, enhances the allure of the book titles to potential readers. In conclusion, this analysis underscores the significance of a well-balanced application of domestication and foreignization strategies in book title translation, shedding light on their role in preserving the essence of the original work while appealing to diverse linguistic and cultural contexts.

The Intercultural Communication Analysis of Conversations in the Project ‘My Hanoi’ by Faculty of Tourism, Hanoi Open University

Culture is significant in the process of creating communication, and language is the key element of communication. More than ever, English and tourism have created opportunities for people from different cultures to exchange and share their cultural values directly. Therefore, intercultural communication skill is highlighted in the context of the thriving global tourism industry. When a group of 20 junior students from the Faculty of Tourism, Hanoi Open University, took two foreign guests on food tours funded by the project ‘My Hanoi’ to improve their communicative competence in English, the researchers had a great chance to observe such interesting phenomena of intercultural communication in their conversations. Those phenomena were then analyzed from the intercultural communication perspective to indicate the strengths and weaknesses of our students in communicating with people from other cultures.

A Comparative Study of Kinship Address Forms between Chinese and English from an Intercultural Communication Perspective

Kinship address forms carry profound connotations. They are linguistic, social, and cultural phenomena, all of which hold significant importance in daily communication. Due to diverse social backgrounds, substantial differences exist between English and Chinese kinship address forms. Although the study of kinship terms is not a novel topic, it continues to be of research value due to its frequent usage in daily communication. Under the guidance of intercultural communication theory, this paper provides a brief comparison of Chinese and English kinship address forms, considering perspectives from the elder generation, the same generation, and the younger generation. It analyzes the underlying causes in terms of social structure, cultural background, and economic context, with the aim of fostering an awareness of cultural disparities between China and Western countries. This understanding can help reduce culture shock and the occurrence of pragmatic failures and provide valuable references for future comparative studies. The results demonstrate that Chinese kinship address forms are intricate and detailed, accurately describing all kinship relationships, including lineal and collateral, paternal and maternal, consanguinity and affinity, elder and younger generations, among others. In contrast, English kinship address forms are highly generalized and simplistic, typically distinguishing only between males and females.

The Identity Dilemma of Chinese Immigrants in Singapore from the Perspective of Intercultural Communication and Identity Negotiation: A Case Study of the Chinese Language Movement of Singapore Chamber of Commerce

This paper is based on the background of many Chinese immigrants to Singapore in recent years. Singapore is a multicultural country. The Chinese identity in Singapore is also influenced by multiple factors such as history and culture. This paper studies the causes and status quo of the identity dilemma of the Chinese in Singapore, which provides a reference for China's research in this field and promotes the development of China-Singapore relations. This study is based on the intercultural communication theory and the consultative identity theory, using case analysis to draw the conclusion that the current Singaporean Chinese are faced with a dilemma in the identity process, and put forward suggestions on this phenomenon: Singaporean Chinese should actively negotiate to carry out innovative development on the basis of protecting the fundamental development of identity culture. Understanding and helping Singaporean Chinese to form an identity and value system is conducive to promoting the positive development of China-Singapore relations under the background of globalization.

Films “of Eastern Life” of the 1920s in the Light of Intercultural Communication among the Peoples of the USSR

The article explores various films “about Eastern life” of the 1920s, conducting a historical and anthropological analysis of the content of these films and their reviews from the perspective of intercultural communication. The research methodology is grounded in the semiotic tradition and the communicative model proposed by Yu. M. Lotman. Printed media texts and visual sources (films) were used in the composition of this article. The aim of this piece is to expose the communicative functions of cinematography as a medium for information exchange and to ascertain the cognitive possibilities of silent cinema for the communicative interaction of the peoples of our country.
 Films “from Eastern life” had to conform to certain criteria, taking into account the idiosyncrasies of the national mentality of the inhabitants of the eastern outskirts. The study revealed that legends were employed in scriptwriting as a phenomenon of folk spiritual culture. Films inspired by folklore depict architectural masterpieces and the diverse nature of different regions. The harem theme popular in Western Europe found its way into Soviet films “about Eastern life”, but the quest for the “false exotic of the East” often resulted in communication breakdowns. The “inauthentic” portrayal of the East did not resonate with viewers and film critics.
 Nevertheless, silent films of the 1920s introduced the ethno-confessional characteristics of peoples, their history, traditional way of life, mores, and customs. These films contributed to the broadening of the national worldview, thereby confirming the high cognitive potential and significance of cinema in the intercultural communication within the multi-ethnic landscape of the USSR.

On Foreign Translation of Chinese Agricultural Classics from the Perspective of Intercultural Communication

The classics have always been a relatively important part of Chinese traditional culture, and the vast number of classics is the main carrier of Chinese traditional culture. At the same time, the translation of agricultural texts is an indispensable part of Chinese culture to go out and enhance its communication power and influence. Through the translation of agricultural classics texts into English, the target readers who lack Chinese cultural background or have insufficient cultural background can recognize the excellent Chinese traditional culture. While the number of agricultural texts is relatively small compared with other fields and has not been given due attention. Moreover, Chinese agricultural texts are mostly in literary languages, which are not only difficult to understand but also require strong professional translations. The Qi Min Yao Shu is one of the most complete books on agriculture in China, reflecting the knowledge of agricultural science accumulated by the working people of China before the sixth century, and is a treasure of knowledge on agriculture. From the perspective of cross-cultural communication, the foreign translations of culturally loaded words, agricultural terms, sentences, and styles in the Qi Min Yao Shu are studied with typical cases selected from them. Finally, the significance of the study of the foreign translation of Chinese agricultural texts is that: (1) according to different translation methods, the translation principles of agricultural texts are summarized (2) this thesis can enrich the number of foreign translations of agricultural texts and serve as a reference for later research.
