The Mediating Effect of Motivation between Internal Communication and Job Satisfaction

Communication in organisations is essential for them to be competitive in a global world that is constantly changing. Internal communication especially can be a highly effective and useful strategic tool for improving organisational performance through employee motivation and satisfaction. Based on a questionnaire survey completed by 426 employees of Portuguese organisations, this work aims to understand, using a partial least squares structural equation model, the importance of internal communication in the motivation and satisfaction of Portuguese employees. The results show that internal communication in organisations directly influences job satisfaction and also indirectly, through motivation at work, giving motivation at work the role of mediator. It is therefore important for Portuguese organisations to invest in effective internal communication strategies in order to promote employee motivation and satisfaction, recognising motivation as a key mediator in the relationship between internal communication and job satisfaction.

The Role of Internal Communication on Employee Outcomes: A Review and Direction

Despite the importance of internal communication (IC) in organization and management studies, its role or impact on employee outcomes (specifically employee loyalty, commitment and citizenship behaviour) remains understudied. To address the preceding gap, this article systematically reviews the role of IC and its impact on employee outcomes. Our analysis reveals four critical themes, crisis events, culture/climate, organizational change and managers’ roles, where IC effectively influences the discussed employee outcomes. By summarizing the findings, we propose an integrated framework for researchers to move the conversation on the part of IC on employee outcomes forward.

Internal Communication in R&D: Decision-Making Methods Based on Expert Approaches

Relatively recently, internal communication received little attention from theorists, since they focused on external communication. The importance of internal communication is seen as the taker of responsibility for all internal exchanges of information between internal stakeholders at all levels. However, interdisciplinary cooperation in terms of internal communication is a significant issue for any organization running the R&D process. Different studies have already revealed strong links between communication and R&D success, but a lack of research continuity is visible, especially one relevant in practice. This article examines communication in the R&D process through the prism of decision making. It aims to take experience from R&D experts to supplement a list of decision-making methods used in the R&D process, which is compiled based on literature analysis. In the next stage of the investigation, the list of decision-making methods is used to determine the weights of the methods, which reflect the suitability of the decision-making methods in the R&D process. In the final stage of the investigation, differences in the evaluations of the US and German experts are presented, reflecting different experiences and differences in the conditions of the business environment.

Information and Communications Technologies as a Driver of Effective Internal Communication

Internal communication is considered to be fundamental process for organization. The information and communication technology (ICT) has been a strong trigger of organizational change in every aspect, as well as in internal communication. This paper investigates ICT tools usage effects on internal communication. Three research hypothesis were set up: (i) employees’ perceived importance of internal communication has a relationship with their ICT usage, (ii) employees’ perceived quality of internal communication has a relationship with their ICT usage, and (iii) ICT tools usage contributes to the perceived impact of IT on informing, motivation, productivity, loyalty, organizational development understanding, reducing rumors within organization of employees, willingness to change and overall satisfaction of employees. In order to test hypothesis, data were collected via an online survey conducted among Croatian public relations experts. Data mining was applied in data analysis: including both, descriptive (distributions) and predictive models (Bayesian networks). Sensitivity analysis of Bayesian networks identified significant factors of successful internal communication. Results showed that Skype usage mostly contributed to the quality of internal communication, whereas social network usage mostly contributed to the perceived importance of internal communication. Bayesian network model identified e-mail usage as a predictor of employees informing and chat usage as predictor for productivity of employees. Organizations’ management should embrace opportunities that new technologies have brought to the field of internal communications and use it as a tool for improvement.

Se analiza la relevancia de la comunicacion, en cuanto a la utilizacion del lenguaje no sexista se refiere, como elemento integrador y por lo tanto facilitador de la gestion conflicto. Tambien se citan y referencian publicaciones de fecha anterior dada la relevancia de sus autores como referentes en los temas tratados y por tanto de necesaria inclusion. It analyses the relevance of communication, as far as the use of non-sexist language is concerned, as an integrating element and therefore facilitator of conflict management. Period of the publications reviewed: The search has been limited to those publications between the year 2000 and the present day. Previous publications are also cited and referenced, given the relevance of their authors as references in the topics dealt with and therefore of necessary inclusion. Origin and types of documents reviewed: The searches have been carried out in various databases such as Leisure and Tourism, Google Scholar, Academic Search Complete, Redalyc, Science Direct, Scopus, Web of Science and ABI, reviewing books, reports, popular and scientific research journals, academic texts, doctoral theses and specialized and contrasted web pages, and an analysis of secondary sources. Author’s contribution on the publications analysed: There is abundant literature on the presence of women in the company, but academia does not observe a relationship between this incorporation, internal communication, company policies and the benefits that all this brings to the proper management of conflict in the workplace. Conclusions on the lines on research studied: One of the most relevant factors is the incorporation of women into the business ecosystem. It is not enough to consider the equality policies that the law requires, but we must go further, given the benefits they bring to companies that incorporate them as having positive skills in conflict management.

Case overview/synopsis Ashok Leyland Ltd. is the 2nd largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles in India, the 4th largest manufacturer of buses in the world and the 12th largest manufacturer of trucks globally. Vinod Dasari joined this company in 2005, and since 2011, he has been the MD and CEO of the company. This case is about restaging of this company that commenced in the year 2013 when the company was heading toward a loss for the very first time in its 65 plus years of history. Ashok Leyland was heaving under its own weight, saddled with overheads, grappling with intense competition from old and new players and struggling to become agile and meet the new challenges in the market. A potential loss of up to Rs 750 crores (US$123m) looked inevitable. The challenges were that major structural changes were required and the company needed not only a transformational change but also a surgery. Algorithm and methodology of diagnostics of communication system of the enterprise

On the basis of comparative analysis of approaches to the study of organizational communications developed a method of their diagnosis, consisting in determining the composition of the characteristics of the communication system of the enterprise, specialized methods for measuring and assessing the magnitude of critical deviations, and the research algorithm. Specifics of the considered strategic diagnostics consist in the accounting of resources and abilities of the organizational communications considered as complete set of external and internal communications. The resulting tools are used in decision-making procedures on the directions of development of the communication component of the strategic potential of the production enterprise. The tendency of alignment of the importance of communications supporting organizational changes with resource-providing communications with the increasing turbulence of the external environment is established, which increases the importance of internal communications for modern enterprises, including the distribution of budgets for the development of communications.

Christian ontology of personality in the context of communication theology

The paper analyzes the problem of Trinitarian theology in the light of the communication paradigm and clarifying the outlines of a new ontology of personality that grows from the phenomenon of communication. The author of the article argues that communication event lays the foundation for a hypostatic being of the Divine Persons of the Trinity, providing its ontological unity. This dynamism of the divine hypostasis, implemented in their dialogue, shifts the focus from the fact who is the Divine Trinity, to the space between, in which their conversation is heard. The relation of each Hypostases of the Trinity - their relativity lays the foundation of the divine ontological being. The beginning of the Communion becomes a meeting of a man with God, which is made possible thanks to the special disposition of the first to hear the appeal of the Second - that is through the openness. Relationship with God is a ground for dialogue with neighbors and the rest of creation. For personal progress must keep the most perfect specimen to which to aspire. It is tempting to think of the approach of the Creator through attachment to the community of the faithful, the mystical body of Christ, and thus leads to ecclesiology. Ecclesiology, in turn, is the basis for the doctrine of the Divine Trinity. Identification and prioritization of key stakeholder groups in marketing communication of colleges

This paper shows the possibility of using the Stakeholder Circle Methodology for the identification and prioritization of key stakeholder groups for the purpose of marketing communication in colleges. At the beginning, we emphasize the necessity of the use of marketing communications in the context of the changing market situation of tertiary education in the Czech and Slovak Republics, then we present basic steps of the Stakeholder Circle Methodology and methodology of the research. The selected research results are compared and subjective priorities are assigned based on professional judgment and, at the end, objective priorities are identified by Stakeholder index and subsequently key stakeholder groups are identified. Particular individual departments, faculty and staff, the media, potential and present students, and marketing and public relations departments belong among the most important target groups of stakeholders in marketing communication of universities. Based on the research results, the importance of internal communication has to be supported by universities’ marketing communication, followed by media relations forward to increasing a positive image and goodwill.

Internal Communication and Morale in a Natural Resources Public Organization

This research examined perceptions of employees of a natural resources public organization. The employees had positive perceptions of the organization and the importance of internal communications, but evaluations were not high for morale, awareness of issues in the organization, and internal communications effectiveness and consistency. There were positive correlations between the constructs related to internal communications and the constructs related to morale. It was recommended that an organizational structure that fosters positive internal communications be promoted. It was also recommended that promoting informal relationships between organizational units to improve communications. For research, it was recommended that the link between internal communications and organizational climate continue to be studied to unravel the relationship between the constructs. Interventions to improve internal communications of intact groups and organizations should occur. Research should also address how being a public organization affects the ability to foster positive internal communications and organizational climate.

Comunicação interna no âmbito da gestão pública: o caso de uma autarquia pública federal brasileira

The intention of this article is to present a case study on the adoption and use of new channels of internal communication in a federal public autarchy. The study was conducted at the National Institute of Social Security, in Sao Paulo, between July 2008 and July 2009, and aimed to monitor the period in which a new internal communication plan was developed and implemented in its initial phase. The research methodology used was the case study, consisting of documentary analysis, field research and in-depth interviews conducted with the institution’s public employees. As a result, it was possible to observe the internal resistance and the difficulties encountered in the management of the new plan. Among its conclusions, the study highlights the need for a previous study on the conditions of relationships and practices developed in a public service unit at the adoption of new communication tools. It also highlights the importance of planning and management actions in the implementation of the intended communication actions, including internal marketing efforts to sensitize users about the meaning and importance of internal communication in promoting greater agility and efficiency in the workplace, in order to offer best public services to users.

The importance of communication in the process of integration in the European Union: Case study of the Republic of Macedonia

Facing the challenges of the new changes and reforms on the way towards accessing the European Union, the Republic of Macedonia is also facing the challenge to strengthen the capacities of the administration, which inevitably means informing it about European values and systems of operation, but also informing the public about innovations and changes the future membership brings. The paper focuses on the manner in which the Macedonian public is being informed regarding Macedonia's process of advancement towards the European family, with emphasis on the importance of internal communication in the public administration in terms of the exchange and dissemination of information on activities related to the pre-access process. Through analysis of the relevant strategic documents and the results of the implemented projects, it can be concluded that it is necessary to continuously inform the public about the process of entering the Union. At the same time, it is also necessary to include the public administration in the process of shaping the policy for informing the public.

How Corporate Communication Influences Strategy Implementation, Reputation and the Corporate Brand: An Exploratory Qualitative Study

This paper reports the findings of a qualitative field study of five firms from diverse industries on best practices in corporate communication, especially as they concern the links between a company's corporate communication function, on the one hand, and its implementation of strategy, its reputation and its corporate branding, on the other. The overarching question addressed in this study is this: How can the corporate communication function operate successfully at the heart of an organization, that is, where companies are orchestrating buy-in for strategy and building the corporate brand and reputation? Results show the importance of the following elements: alignment between the function and strategy implementation, CEO as best reporting structure, focus on brand and reputation, importance of internal communications, innovative uses of information technology and the function as an art and science.

MANAGING RISKS AND LIABILITIES IN THE HIGHWAYS AND TRANSPORT SECTOR

In recent years, more people have been claiming financial recompense for personal injuries they sustain. Increasingly, the targets of such claims are highway authorities, transport operators and property owners. This paper outlines an area of risk commonly overlooked by practitioners, but which can be managed effectively and can afford both cost savings and public safety improvements. Inconsistencies between design standards, safety improvement policies and maintenance regimes for the more common vehicle-based infrastructure can all weaken an authority's position when assessing their prior knowledge of potentially hazardous environments. This has direct implications on the likely success of defending public liability claims. With the evolution of intelligent transport systems and more sustainable modes of transport, the liability situation is changing. Tram tracks, cycle routes and even the existence of busy pedestrian routes beside low priority traffic routes, are all testing the robustness of highway authority policies and practices. This paper outlines how the highway factor may be found to be contributory in the event of an accident. The highway authority's and transport operator's duties and powers are then considered, along with examples showing how exposure to personal injury claims can arise. The concept of “prior knowledge” (emanating from a vast array of sources) is introduced, before the importance of internal communication and the management and use of information is considered.
