3D Adventure Game Design for Early Childhood Alphabet Recognition

Since good practices in childhood will influence adult habits, dental health education should start early. Until recently, the only way to get information about dental health care and good and bad food choices for teeth was through lectures and pamphlets. The traditional approach is considered boring, unnecessarily visualized, and not difficult enough for children to understand. Dr. Rizza Dwi Prasetya from K24 Dental Care Lamongan says that one of the most important things to maintain good dental growth and health is to instill the value of dental care in children from an early age. One way to do this is by creating a 3D adventure game for Android smartphones that teaches about oral health. The Multimedia Development Life Cycle (MDLC) approach, which consists of six stages-ideation, design, material collection, assembly, testing, and distribution-was used in making this application. With an indicator of 81% "Very Good", this 3D adventure game about dental health has gone through user acceptability testing and black box testing. This means that this application is suitable for use as an educational tool for children to help them care for and maintain oral health.

Periodontal and Caries Status in Relation to Oral Health Knowledge, Attitudes, and Behavior of Medical and Dental Students in Taxila, Pakistan.

Background The importance of oral health in general well-being is widely acknowledged. It is expected that students belonging to dental and medical fields maintain a strong awareness of oral health and participate in public oral health awareness and initiatives, particularly in low-income nations such as Pakistan. Objectives The objective of the study was to assess the relation of periodontal status and dental caries status of medical and dental students in Taxila, Pakistan, with their oral health knowledge, attitude, and behavior. Methodology A cross-sectional study was conducted in Taxila targeting a total of 350 medical and dental students. Convenient sampling was used for the study. Data collection involved a structured questionnaire for oral health knowledge, attitudes, and behavior. The questionnaire was pilot tested, and Cronbach alpha was 0.70. Periodontal and dental caries was assessed using the Community Periodontal Index (CPI) and the Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth (DMFT) Index, respectively. Ethical approval and informed consent were obtained, maintaining confidentiality. Descriptive statistics summarized demographic and oral health data, whereas statistical tests explored associations of periodontal and dental caries status. Results Overall, the students' mean percentage scores were 7.14 ± 1.5 on knowledge, 24.4 ± 3.5 on attitudes, and 7.53 ± 1.4 on behavior. The mean CPI score was 1.17, and the DMFT score was 1.64 ± 1.66. Notably, dental students were well aware of their oral health compared to medical students in all aspects. Analysis revealed that oral health knowledge and behavior were correspondent with good dental health, with significant results. Conclusion The medical and dental students of Taxila showed statistically significant oral health knowledge, positive attitudes, and behavior. The attitudes although alone did not significantly affect oral health status. However, enhancing oral health awareness among students requires collective efforts from health professionals.

Assessment of oral health status amongst postal employees of Bhubaneswar city: A cross-sectional study.

Upholding good dental health has wider effects on productivity and performance at work in addition to being crucial for individual well-being. Because it can affect both their personal well-being and productivity at work, post office workers' oral health is therefore a critical issue of concern. Hence, evaluating Bhubaneswar city post office workers' dental health is the study's aim. With the aid of the WHO 2013 oral health assessment form, a cross-sectional study involving 171 regular post office workers was undertaken. Using the Chi-square test and an ANOVA for pertinent variables, the data were analysed using SPSS statistical software version 27.0. Potential confounding variables were adjusted using multiple logistic regression analysis. The survey included a total of 171 post office personnel, of which 76.6% were men and 23.4% were women. The participants' periodontal health revealed that 67.7% had deep periodontal pockets, 18.7% had shallow ones, and 95.3% had bleeding gums. The mean DMFT of the study participants was 4.10 ± 3.149. Among post office workers, tobacco use and oral health conditions represent a crucial junction of variables that call for caution and preventative action.

To assess the effect of selected locally available beverages on salivary pH, flow rate, and oral clearance rate among adults

Aim: The aim of this study is to assess the effect of selected locally available beverages on salivary pH, flow rate, and oral clearance rate among adults. Materials and Methods: A quantitative diagnostic method for dental caries would improve oral health, which directly affects the quality of life. The pH scale measures how acidic or basic a solution is, with 7 being neutral. When the pH of plaque drops below normal, or <5.5, the acidity starts to dissolve minerals and destroy the tooth’s enamel. This clinical trial will be conducted on 40 subjects. Test beverages will be Red Bull, mixed fruit juice, tea, and sweetened milk. Unstimulated salivary samples will be collected for each study subject at least 1 h after their breakfast. After the collection of baseline salivary samples, the subjects will be given one beverage to drink, and then stimulated saliva samples will be collected at fixed time intervals. A digital pH meter will be used to measure the pH at every step. Statistical Analysis: This will be carried out using SPSS version 17, one-way ANOVA, and post hoc Tukey’s test will be applied in the statistical tests. Results: The maximum drop in pH was seen in the case of carbonated beverage (Red Bull), the oral clearance for all the liquid food items was achieved at 14 minutes. Conclusions: Liquids had a considerable cariogenic and erosive potential despite their quick clearance from the mouth cavity. it is always recommended to limit beverage consumption to maintain good dental health.

Dental disease is a common issue in companion rabbits

There are approximately 1.1 million pet rabbits in the UK. Rabbit teeth continue to grow throughout their lifetime, and dental problems are not uncommon. New research from the Royal Veterinary College has identified that one in seven companion rabbits are experiencing dental disease. There are various risk factors which can contribute to dental disease, but all companion rabbits should have regular dental check-ups to maintain good dental health.

Edukasi Cara Menyikat Dan Menjaga Kesehatan Gigi Yang Benar Pada Anak-Anak Di Desa Bandar Magodang

Community Service Activities are mandatory activities carried out by UIN North Sumatra students, especially at the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training. PMM-4 students carry out community service activities in Bandar Magodang Village, Bintang Bayu District. One of the series of activities planned by PMM-4 students is a study house which is attended by the children of Bandar Magodang Village. This study house program aims to help the children of Bandar Magodang Village in brushing and maintaining good and correct dental health. This program is running well, this service activity is carried out through 3 stages, namely planning, implementation and evaluation. The method used in implementing this community service is a qualitative approach. Data were collected before and after the intervention to assess changes in children's knowledge and behavior. The results showed a significant increase in their understanding of the importance of brushing their teeth properly and maintaining dental health in general. The implication of these findings is the importance of ongoing dental health education in rural communities to improve children's dental well-being. This learning house action was completed on 18-19 August 2023 in one of the residents' yards in Bandar City, Bintang Bayu District.

Are changes in malocclusion associated with adulthood psychosocial well-being?

The purpose of this study was to investigate the longitudinal psychosocial effects of changes in malocclusion from adolescence to adulthood on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQOL), self-rated dental appearance, and overall life satisfaction. The Dunedin Multidisciplinary Health and Development Study is a longitudinal birth cohort study of 1037 children born at Queen Mary Hospital, Dunedin, New Zealand, between April 1, 1972 and March 31, 1973. Data on their health and development, including dental examinations, has since been collected periodically. Malocclusion severity was measured using the Dental Aesthetic Index in participants aged 15 and 45 years (data collected at age 18 years was supplemented for data missing at age 15 years). Other data collected included clinically assessed oral health (dental caries and periodontal disease experience) and self-rated dental appearance, OHRQOL, life satisfaction, and personality traits. Malocclusion data were available for 868 participants in adolescence and 834 aged 45 years. For those with a severe handicapping malocclusion at 15 years old, 46.6% who received orthodontic treatment transitioned to a resolved (ie, mild-moderate) malocclusion when aged 45 years, whereas only 16.2% of those who did not receive orthodontic treatment made that transition. A transition to a worse malocclusion was associated with impacts on OHRQOL when aged 45 years in the subdomains of functional limitation, psychological discomfort, and physical disability as well as worse self-ratings of dental appearance, and these findings were held after adjusting for potential confounders. Malocclusion was not associated with overall life satisfaction. Maintenance of acceptable occlusion after orthodontic treatment requires a strong emphasis on achieving and maintaining excellent dental health and avoiding chronic oral conditions such as dental caries and tooth loss. The long-term benefits of orthodontic treatment may diminish by midlife unless good dental health is maintained. Orthodontists have the responsibility to raise awareness among their patients on how to maintain good oral health after orthodontic treatment.

The Effectiveness of the "I Can Brush My Teeth" Movement and Song Program in Improving Tooth Brushing Knowledge in Children Aged 4-6

Children with good dental health can experience optimal physical, mental and social development, but in reality 9 out of 10 Indonesian children experience dental caries. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the "I Can Brush My Teeth" singing and dancing program to increase 4 – 6 years old children’s toothbruhing knowledge. This research uses quantitative research method with a within-subjects quasi experimental pre-post design to measure the effectiveness of intervention using movement and song methods delivered through music video clips as a medium for learning children's knowledge regarding the frequency, duration, schedule and benefits of good toothbrushing, as well as providing children with an understanding of the importance of parental involvement. Post test results showed a significant increase in the average children's knowledge score using the non-parametric Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test comparison technique with a P value of 0.002 with a significance limit of <0.05. One week after post-test1 another post-test was done (post-test 2), and the increase of toothbrushing knowledge persists significantly with a P value of 1.000 with a significance limit of <0.05. Based on the results of the data analysis above, it can be concluded that "I Can Brush My Teeth" singing and dancing program is considered effective in increasing the knowledge of children aged 4 - 6 years about good tooth brushing. Further research evaluating the effect of parental involvement using singing and dancing programs on the level of knowledge about good toothbrushing behavior in children aged 4 - 6 years is considered necessary.

Health Education of Dental and Oral Health as a Preventive Action for Children in Rural Areas

Good dental health is what everyone expects, but in fact, public attention to dental and oral health is still quite low, most people underestimate the health of their teeth. This can be seen in the many cases of dental caries and cavities. Symptoms of dental pain begin with the occurrence of dental caries and will continue to become large and affect the dental nerves, causing pain. This incident is because most parents pay less attention to the dental health of children under five, especially the lack of attention in brushing their teeth at night and also getting used to consuming formula milk in toddlers before going to bed. Therefore it is necessary to carry out socialization regarding efforts to maintain dental and oral health to obtain maximum body health. The socialization program was carried out with lectures and demonstrations using video media, posters and dental displays. The socialization activities went well and smoothly with the high enthusiasm of the participants in listening, asking, and answering questions so that a pleasant atmosphere was created and the participants were able to practice how to brush their teeth properly. So it can be concluded that the socialization program that was carried out was effective in increasing knowledge and awareness of dental and oral health in children in rural areas.

SPECIAL METHODS OF SCHOOL HEALTH PROGRAMME FOR SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN IN DENTISTRY

School health program is a program of preventive promotional activities in the field of dentistry using the method “trainer of trainer” or abbreviated as ToT. The program is organized by the Indonesian Association of Dentists (PDGI) together with dental faculties across Indonesia as trainers and multinational company as facilitator. The goal of this program is to create a generation of a nation that will be free of tooth cavities by 2030. Teachers and parents of students with special needs are the target audience for this training, enabling them to carry out morning and night toothbrushing activities for good dental and oral health. ToT's activities include two things: giving advice to teachers and students' parents and brushing their teeth in the morning and evening for 21 days. The problem is that children with special needs do not have the same abilities as other children in terms of receiving information, responding to teaching, and applying what has been taught. Low levels of independence and varying levels of learning difficulties are challenges for trainees. Special methods in teaching morning and night toothbrush activities should be applied well to both teachers and parents of students with special needs, such as how to brush their teeth, the habits of brushing the teeth properly, the use of special brushes, and tips and tricks that can be implemented by the teacher and parents so that children with special requirements can run the program.

TRAINING OF TRAINERS METHOD FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TEACHERS TO IMPROVE DENTAL HEALTH KNOWLEDGE

Introduction: Many school children suffered from dental caries, which causes children to skip school because of toothache. The involvement of teachers in schools is considered important. The teacher is a model for children who can provide motivation for proper dental health behavior. The purpose of this study is to provide training to elementary school teachers, to increase their dental health knowledge, in order to educate their students. Materials and Methods: This is a pre-experimental design study, which provides dental health training to teachers. This activity involved 4 dentists as trainers, who had previously performed calibration. There are 2 schools involved, namely Saraswati 1 Elementary School and Saraswati 2 Elementary School in Denpasar Bali. A total of 31 teachers who signed the informed consent were included as samples. Dental health education materials are in the form of power points, animated educational videos, dental models, fluoridated toothpaste and toothbrush for children. The questionnaires were used as an instrument. The educational theme is "prevent cavities by brushing your teeth morning and night. Visit the dentist before it's too late". Data were analyzed using Wilcoxon signed rank test. \ Results and Discussion: At the beginning of the study, it was found that 25.81% of teachers had the poor knowledge category, and 74.19% were in the middle category. There was no teacher with good knowledge category. However, at the end of the study, 100% of the teachers had good dental health knowledge. There are differences in knowledge of teachers before and after receiving training. Conclusion: Dental and oral health training method for elementary school teachers can improve dental health knowledge, so that teachers are worthy to teach dental health to their students.

Evaluation on Correlation of Gender and Age towards Toothbrushing Knowledge Among Primary School Students

Observation of the level of knowledge is the first step to determine a student's understanding to the basic concepts of a practice. Early assessment of dental health knowledge of children will lead to big contribution to good dental health in future. However, few evaluations of children in different geographic regions regarding genders and age so as to equally treated with dental health strategies. The aim of this study was to explore the level of knowledge and evaluate whether there was a correlation between gender and age to the level of dental health knowledge in terms of toothbrushing in Sangkaragung, Bali. The method of this study was descriptive analytics with total sampling as much as 51 students in grade IV and V SD N 1 Sangkaragung. The evaluation of gender, age and its correlation to the knowledge level of in terms of toothbrushing procedure was performed with statistical analysis of chi-square test. The instrument used questionnaire to ace the level of knowledge with the final result in good, fair and bad criteria. The results shows that p-value is 0,281 which is more than significance 0,05 for the gender. Meanwhile for age, the result of p-value is 0,042 (p-value 0,05). In conclusion, there is no correlation between gender and the level of knowledge of dental health toothbrushing, however, age and of dental health toothbrushing knowledge is correlated among students in SD N 1 Sangkaragung.

Peningkatan Pengetahuan Kesehatan Gigi dan Mulut Melalui Penyuluhan pada Siswa Madrasah Ibtida’iyah Negeri 2 Bantul

The importance of maintaining healthy teeth and mouth from an early age through the provision of education is the basis for this community service. The purpose of this activity is to increase knowledge and build habits of elementary school students about maintaining good and correct dental and oral health. The method used in this community service is dental and oral health counseling through audio visuals and demonstrations which are held at Madrasah Ibtida'iyah Negeri (MIN) 2 Bantul. A total of 109 students from grades IV and V were involved in this activity. The activity is accompanied by pre-test and post-test work as well as the practice of brushing teeth together as an indicator of the success of the activity. The results of counseling activities at MIN 2 Bantul showed that there was an increase in knowledge of oral and dental health with higher post-test results of 14% compared to the pre-test and skills in carrying out proper tooth brushing techniques. The conclusion from this activity is that there is an increase in dental and oral health knowledge after providing counseling to students in grades IV and V of Madrasah Ibtida'iyah Negeri (MIN) 2 Bantul.

Evaluating Parental Knowledge and Awareness of Oral Care for Preschool Children in Kuantan, Pahang

Background: Good oral health is an essential component of general health. Children's dental health, in general, is greatly influenced by their oral health. Parents significantly influence their children's lives and motivate them to maintain good dental health. This study aims to determine the parents' knowledge and awareness of preschoolers’ oral care in Kuantan, Pahang. Methods: A quantitative cross-sectional survey design was used to evaluate parents' knowledge and awareness of preschool oral care in Kuantan, Pahang. A total of 134 parents who have children aged between 4 and 6 years old at the registered kindergarten with the Department of Social Welfare that fulfil the inclusion criteria were recruited using the convenience sampling method. Descriptive and correlation statistical analysis were employed in this study. The data was analysed using IBM SPSS Statistic version 28.0 Results: This study reported that most participants were parents of more than 32 years, completed tertiary education level, and had monthly income between RM4,000 – RM10,000, with 53.7%, 70.1%, and 38.8%, respectively. Regarding knowledge level, more than half of parents had high knowledge (73.1%) of children’s oral care, and all parents had positive awareness (100%). There is no significant correlation between the level of knowledge and awareness with r=0.138 and p-0.112. Conclusion: Educational status may be associated with the knowledge level of children’s oral care. However, education may not influence parents’ awareness of pre-schooler’s children’s oral care. Thus, more awareness programmes on children’s oral care should be implemented in the community.

OVERVIEW OF EARLY CHILDHOOD CARIES AND PREVENTION PRACTICES IN PRESCHOOL CHILDREN IN PONTIANAK

arly Childhood Caries (ECC) is a dental caries disease in children characterized by one or more carious lesions (cavitary or non-cavitated), primary teeth missing/removed due to caries, or primary teeth filled in children under 71 months of age. Prevention of ECC can be done from the time of pregnancy, which aims to prevent the transmission of bacteria that cause dental caries from mother to child. Prevention of ECC continues when the baby is born with the help of parents to keep the child's teeth clean and maintain the child's diet. The research aims to discover how ECC describes and practices prevention in preschool children in Pontianak City. This research design is descriptive to see an overview of ECC and its prevention practices in preschoolers. Results DMFT examination on 107 kindergarten children aged 3-5 years, 13 children were free from caries, while 94 children had caries. Caries' status in the calculation of the DMFT index was determined according to WHO criteria, namely 0.0-1.1 very low, 1.2-2.6 low, 2.7-4.4 moderate, 4.5-6.5 high, >6,6 is very high. The DMFT index status assessment results get an average DMFT index value of 7,046, which is included in the very high category. Meanwhile, the average ECC prevention practice for children in Pontianak is 63.72%, which is included in the good category. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the caries status of kindergarten children aged 3-5 years in Pontianak City obtained the DMFT index, which includes the very high category. While preventing ECC in kindergarten children aged 3-5 years in the city of Pontianak obtained scores included in the good category. Expected with this research, parents can better maintain and improve their health and well-being by applying knowledge about how to maintain children's dental and oral health so that they can give directions to children better to maintain good oral and dental health and the age of 3-5 years are very susceptible to caries.

Motivation and Dental Health Self-Care Behavior with Adolescent Quality of Life using OHIP-14

Background: The prevalence of dental and oral disease in Indonesia is still high (57.6%) and the most cases are dental caries and periodontal disease. Adolescents during puberty are prone to oral health problems, so they need attention from dental and oral health care programs. Preventive measures against dental and oral diseases need to be carried out in adolescents so that there are no disturbances in function, activity, and work productivity which will affect quality of life. Technological developments require innovation to detect oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in adolescents early. Objective: To determine the relationship between motivation and dental health self-care behavior with the quality of life of adolescents using the Oral Health Impact profile-14 or OHIP-14 questionnaire. Method: This type of research is observational analytic with a cross sectional design. The research location is at the Junior High School in the Sleman Regency area. The sample was 100 teenagers aged 12-15 years. The sampling technique was carried out using purposive sampling. The data analysis used was bivariate analysis using chi-square correlation to determine the relationship between motivation and dental health behavior and quality of life in adolescents. Results: There is a significant relationship between motivation and quality of life (p=0.004; OR=4.74). Adolescents with low motivation have a tendency to have a low quality of life 4.74 times compared to adolescents with high motivation. There is a significant relationship between dental health self-care behavior and quality of life (p=0.041; OR= 5.47). Adolescents with bad behavior tend to have a lower quality of life 5.47 times compared to adolescents with good dental health behavior. Conclusion: There is a relationship between motivation and dental health self-care behavior and quality of life in adolescents. Keywords: Motivation, Behavior, Quality of Life of Adolescents

Knowledge, Attitude, and Perception of Oral Health Among Parents of Children at Risk of Infective Endocarditis: A Cross-Sectional Study.

Infective endocarditis (IE) is a serious complication primarily affecting patients withcardiac conditions. It is widely recognized that oral microorganisms contribute to the development of IE. The objective is to assess the knowledge, attitudes, and perception of parents of children at risk of IE by studying the preventive measures employed by them. A self-constructed questionnaire composed of 14 questions was distributed among parents of children aged 0-12 years with known cardiac diseases. The parents/caregivers who were attending the pediatric outpatient clinics at King Fahad Medical City (KFMC) were selected randomly. Results:A total of 112 parents responded to this questionnaire. Almost 50% of the participants in this study reported that their children do not brush their teeth regularly, with only 12.5% of them brushing twice a day. Regarding the role of parents in supervising oral hygiene, 62.5% of them stated that they only provide advice but do not watch their child brush their teeth, and only 9.8% of parents are actively involved in advising and watching their children brush their teeth. In this study, 95.5% of parents agreed that maintaining good dental health was crucial for overall body health, and 58% of the participants showed interest in receiving more education about oral health and its impact on overall well-being.To assess the statistical significance, a nonparametric Pearson's chi-square test for fitness was employed. A p-value of ≤ 0.05 was used to report the statistical significance of the results. Conclusion:While the parents demonstrated adequate knowledge of oral health, their attitudes towardit were lacking. So, both parents and children require a modification in their attitudes towarddental care and oral health.

The Impact of the Socioeconomic Status(SES) on the Oral Health Status Among 15 Year-Old School Adolescents In Kerbala City/Iraq

Dental caries, plaque, calculus and gingivitis are the most common and widely spread oral health conditions affecting humans at different ages. Socioeconomic status was reported to be one of the factors affecting the severity of oral diseases. The aim of the study included studying the impact of socioeconomic status on oral health variables and investigating the prevalence and severity of dental caries, gingivitis, dental plaque, and dental calculus and an excellent data baseline for planning future preventive programs. The total sample was composed of 500 male students at 15 years old selected randomly from the secondary schools in Karbala city. Assessment of the socioeconomic status using a questionnaire; information about the student's socioeconomic status (SES) was obtained from the student's guardians. Diagnosis and recording of dental caries were according to the criteria described by WHO (2013). gingival index of Loe and Silness (1963) was followed for recording gingival health condition, the Plaque index of Silness and Loe (1964) was used for plaque assessment, and the assessment of calculus was done by applying the Ramfjord index (1959). A high prevalence of dental caries (95.60%) was found, and the caries-free students represented (4.40%); the caries prevalence and severity represented by (DMFT)(DMFS) respectively and the (FS) component of the DMF were significantly affected by the socioeconomic status (SES), Dental plaque and calculus are more in low SES group than other groups, with no significant differences, The mean of gingivitis of the total sample was(1.908), also finding gingivitis is more in low SES group than other groups with a Significant difference(0.011), and regarding the Gingival severity, all subjects have the moderate type of gingivitis (1.1-2). There is a clear and significant increase in the prevalence of dental caries and gingivitis concerning the socioeconomic status of this adolescent group of students. This requires good dental school health programs and improvement in the education level about the importance of oral health and more regular dental visits.
