Exploring the Art of Guqin

This paper is based on the history of Guqin art and employs a chronological approach to examine various aspects such as players, music, and tablature throughout different periods. By outlining the historical development of Guqin art, it prompts contemplation on the contemporary inheritance and development of Guqin art. This paper presents four proposed ideas for the inheritance and development of Guqin art, which include establishing a professional Guqin teaching system, emphasizing the study of Guqin tablature notation techniques, strengthening the popularization of Guqin art among the general public, and addressing the new challenges faced by Guqin art in the present. The author believes that aligning Guqin art with the modern era is an inevitable trend in its artistic development.

The article shows how Yu. N. Bartenev influenced the work of poetess A. I. Gotovtseva. Bartenev appears as a bright, multifaceted, and contradictory person. The article proves that Gotovtseva’s communication with Bartenev became one of the significant factors in her creative self-determination and artistic development. The poetic messages of Gotovtseva to Bartenev were created at different times but indicate that the mentor’s influence on the poetess has not weakened over the years. The article notes that Bartenev’s trace in Gotovtseva’s poetry is also represented in latent form. As an example of such a representation, we consider Gotovtseva’s poems, which refer to the personality and work of A. P. Khvostova, who is part of Bartenev’s closest spiritual circle (“Khvostova, the new Prometheus...” and “Fireplace”). The article demonstrates that Bartenev’s influence largely shaped Gotovtseva’s literary taste and determined the peculiarities of her axiology and poetics.

„Miazga rzeczywistości” – nuda jako materia dzieła sztuki w teatrze Tadeusza Kantora

“The Pulp of Reality” – Boredom as the Material of a Work Of Art in Tadeusz Kantor’s Theater The aim of this article is to try to interpret the meaning of boredom in Tadeusz Kantor’s theatre. I analyse fragments of three performances that were key to his artistic development: The Return of Odysseus (1944), as well as The Madman and the Nun (1963) and The Dead Class (1975). By juxtaposing different ways of understanding boredom, in a philosophical and literary perspective, with Kantor’s work, I will examine whether and in what sense we can speak of this phenomenon in relation to his theatre. Finally, I will try to show why Bruno Schulz’s ideas may help us to uncover the potential significance of Kantor’s „pulp of reality”.

THE PATERNUS PLATE AND ITS SYMBOLISM

The Paternus Plate and its Symbolism. The eucharistic disk attributed to bishop Paternus of Tomis is a well-known artifact of the 6th cen tury. Since its discovery in 1912 it was approached from several perspectives, going from the evolution of the late antique and early Byzantine art to the study of the foreign policy of the Eastern Roman Empire. The present study takes into discus sion the symbolic significance of its decoration and reads it in the larger context of the artistic evolution of Byzantium before iconoclasm. Regarded in the context of the silver patens of the 6th century, the central monogram of Christ on the Paternus plate reveals itself as representing more than just an ornament. For the believer it had a clear symbolic significance: it represented Christ himself offering him the Communion. The central motive was also connected to the border decoration, con taining eucharistic symbols familiar to the contemporary viewer from several re ligious texts and discourses. Regarding such a eucharistic artifact with eusebeia, the 6th century believer was introduced into a salvific atmosphere, allowing him a glimpse into eternity.

Family rituals are closely connected to important milestones in an individual’s life, such as birth, marriage, and death. In the traditional Khakass culture, ritual poetry plays a significant role. Algys, a ritual of good wishes, is a multifunctional phenomenon in Khakass folklore. People believed in the power of words and were convinced that good wishes could influence human life and promote well-being. The research aim was to study the algys that accompany family rituals. The relevance is due to the lack of modern folklore research addressing traditional rituals. The novelty is in identifying the genre features of good wishes in the Khakass family rituals and ritual poetry. The material for this study includes samples of ritual poetry from recordings by N. F. Katanov, archival materials from the Manuscript Fund of the Khakass Scientific Research Institute of Language, Literature, and History (Abakan), and the Institute of Philology, SB RAS (Novosibirsk). Over one hundred poetic texts of Khakass ritual poetry have been collected, and a file of 80 stable poetic formulas has been compiled. This paper presents the results regarding the genre specificity of algys good wishes in the context of Khakass family rituals. The genre features, poetics, and semantics of good wishes in family rituals have been determined. The abundance of epithets, comparisons, and other poetic devices indicates the artistic development of the investigated poetic style. Stable poetic formulas for making sacrifices to the tayyg fire, spirits-masters of mountains and water have also been identified.

Through the three cases of Tangshan Nanhu Park, Liaoning Fuxin Haizhou Open Pit Mine and Hubei Huangshi National Mining Geopark, the success of mine development experience is analyzed from the aspects of mine landscape reconstruction and artistic development of mineral resources, starting from the method and concept that mine development must pay attention to history, adapt to local conditions and combine their own regional environment characteristics. To have a deep understanding of the urban ecological environment and ecological landscape, it is clear that multiple factors should be considered to solve the problems caused by a series of mining activities, such as the surrounding environment and residents' living conditions, so that social development can move forward in a coordinated manner.

A NATIONAL WORLDVIEW AND TRADITIONS IN KAZAKH POETRY OF THE 1960-1980S

The article states that literature without a national character, without traditions, cannot exist, has a national character - its element, the legitimacy of development. It is possible that each national literary path and history created together with the life of the people, under the influence of various social and political situations, are subjected not only to depressive, but also to periodic obstacles, sometimes progressing, outpacing the pace of development of society. But one thing is obvious, that the historical development of literature occurs spontaneously in the national channel, solely on the basis of national traditions. 60-80-ies Kazakh poetry is a feature of national values, a new attitude to tradition and other decisive relationships. Along with the continuation of the traditions of fine instruments, the issues of his artistic development, making changes worthy of time and enrichment have become relevant. The national worldview in Kazakh poetry is a national poetic tradition. The national poetic tradition is a precious pillar of all creativity. One way or another, the tradition did not develop, did not manifest itself in its specifics due to the differences of the epoch and time, there was no creation of tradition. Although traditions are developing and enriched with innovation, in the 60s the galaxy of poets that entered our literature continued the tradition and acquired a new character in our poetry. This is given a scientifically based maximum assessment. What is the role of lyrics in the national poetry that has become the object of research, and what is its nature, what values sprouted from its soils of that time and spread leaves, and what is its path of growth leading to, answering the questions, in what orientation and at what level, we put forward the significance of our work. Studying the trends of Kazakh poetry of the 60-80s, in order to comprehensively and deeply cover the rich heritage, we decided to limit ourselves to the work of a certain group of poets. Also, based on the works of many scientists, we have shown that Kazakh poetry has a deep source. All these conclusions, balanced thoughts and conclusions that we observe during the study of the national character of the Kazakh poem reflect what has been said.

Personal and professional development through sustainable partnerships in education Serbian experiences from the I-TAP-PD Erasmus+ project

The aim of this research is to evaluate how the partnership between teachers and artists was built in the context of Serbia. In conducting it, we sought answers to the following research question: What was the role of I-TAP-PD in the personal and professional development of teachers and artists in Serbia? It is based on the phenomenological theory of reflection in action. Research participants include three teacher-artist pairs. The residencies were delivered between August 2021 and June 2022. The data was collected with pre-residency questionnaires, reflective journals, classroom observation, post-residency group interviews. All qualitative data was analysed using thematic analysis. The results show that artists and teachers, in terms of sustainable partnership in researched practices in Serbia, identified the understanding of the “other“ as the most important aspect of the process of learning and teaching. In this endeavour, professionals developed high levels of empathy and their self-esteem notably increased.

The Impact of the Barbizon School on Nathaniel Hone the Younger’s Landscape Painting: a Comparative Analysis of the French and Irish Periods

The paper analyses the artistic career of the Irish painter Nathaniel Hone the Younger with a focus on his period of study and residence in France, particularly in Barbizon. It analyses the infl uence of Thomas Couture and Camille Corot on Hone’s artistic evolution, and how the traditions of the Barbizon school are embodied in his landscape painting. Special emphasis is placed on the analysis of Corot’s infl uence on the colour palette, compositional decisions, and technical aspects of Hone’s landscape painting. Further consideration is given to the specifi cs of Hone’s art following his return to his home country of Ireland, in particular, the subtle shifts in his creative approach, the retention and progression of skills acquired at Barbizon, and their adaptation within the unique context of the Irish landscape

Practical Music Training in Cultivating the Musical Creativity of Young Musicians

The pivotal role of practical music training in fostering and refining the musical creativity of young musicians has been substantiated through diverse research frameworks and educational models. The vitality of this study is tethered to exploring and delineating the intrinsic connection between hands-on music training and the augmentation of creative faculties among budding musicians. Practical music training, entailing a wide spectrum of activities such as instrumental practice, composition, improvisation, and ensemble participation, serves as a technical skill enhancer and a facilitator of creative thinking and innovative musical expression. This research pivots around a holistic approach, contemplating both the psychological and pedagogical domains, to delineate how varied practical training can be strategically utilized to cultivate musical creativity among youth. Through an immersive exploration of case studies, pedagogical models, and experiential narratives, this study aims to scaffold a comprehensive framework that elucidates the synergy between practical skills and creative musical endeavors. It further seeks to extend insights into how educators and trainers can intricately weave creative thinking into the fabric of their instructional methodologies. Ultimately, this study underscores the imperative of fostering a learning environment where practical and creative domains are not viewed as dichotomous entities but as intertwined aspects, collectively nurturing the comprehensive musical development of young artists.

Naturalistic inquiries of M. Bashkirtseva as an artist: Synthesis of literature and art

Relevance. Maria Bashkirtseva�s multifaceted approach as an artist and memoirist was significant in the formation of the French naturalism movement. Her integration of literary influences, particularly from Dostoevsky, with her artistic expression provides a unique perspective on the interaction between literature and painting in the late 19th century.Purpose. This study aims to explore Bashkirtseva�s role in developing naturalism through her artwork and diaries, emphasizing her innovative synthesis of literary and artistic elements.Methodology. A comprehensive analysis of Bashkirtseva�s paintings, diaries, and personal letters was conducted to trace her artistic evolution and literary influences. The study also examines critical receptions and scholarly works on her contribution to art and literature, alongside a detailed examination of her personal educational background.Results. The research highlights several key periods in Bashkirtseva�s career where her artistic direction significantly intersected with literary themes, particularly those of naturalism. Her work not only reflects her personal experiences and societal observations but also illustrates a deliberate blending of narrative depth with visual realism.Conclusions. Bashkirtseva�s contributions were instrumental in shaping the narrative and aesthetic dimensions of French naturalism. Her ability to infuse literary naturalism into her visual art marks her as a pivotal figure in the integration of these cultural domains. The study reaffirms her status as a crucial link in understanding the evolution of modern European art and literature.

RELATIONSHIP: SELF-ESTEEM - ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT - ARTISTIC ACHIEVEMENT OF MUSIC STUDENTS AFTER THE PANDEMIC YEARS

The research aimed to investigate the relationship between the self-esteem of music students and their academic and artistic performance in both, the pre-pandemic period of Covid-19 and post- pandemic (N - 72 subjects and 78 subjects). Thus, in the year 2019, between self- esteem and academic results there is a positive correlation with a mean value of, r- .560 with p-0.01, and in the year 2022 there is a positive but, significant correlation with a much lower value, r- .261 with p-0.05. The same decrease was seen in the correlation between self-esteem and artistic achievement. This in 2019 had an average value of r- .567** with p-0.01 and in 2022, the correlation becomes insignificant with a value of r- .136. Between academic and artistic outcomes, in the year 2019 there is a positive correlation with a mean value of, .583** with p-0.01. In the year 2022, the correlation remains positive but with a reduced to half value, .258 with p-0.05. We can affirm that the Covid-19 pandemic was a factor that hindered the artistic development of the Music Faculty students.

DEVELOPING METHODOLOGY FOR IDENTIFYING GIFTEDNESS IN VISUAL ART EXPRESSION DOMAIN IN PRESCHOOL AGE

Among professionals dealing with giftedness, one of the commonly accepted purposes for identifying giftedness is providing gifted with adequate pedagogical support, optimal nurturance, cognitive growth, development and opportunities for self-fulfillment. It is also recommended for researchers to choose one position in which giftedness would be understood and setting precise criteria for defining giftedness. In this article, we are interested in identifying giftedness in the domain of visual art expression among preschool children. Some of the general criterions for identifying gifted children include creativity, precocity, high intrinsic motivation, individual speed and approach to learning. The excellence criterion, the rarity criterion, demonstrability criterion, the productivity criterion and the value criterion are given as factors within the Pentagonal theory for identifying the gifted. When it comes to the visual art giftedness as domain-specific giftedness, realm of production is most readily apparent distinction between gifted and non-gifted children. It is presented in children’s artworks. This considers on the one side a child reaching the level of relatively realistic representation in early childhood, and on the other side it is child’s advance in experimentation with form, color, line, composition and other aesthetic properties of a drawing/painting. While having these sets of characteristics of artistically gifted children, we faced the problem in lack of standardized or generally accepted or recommended instruments for this process. Being in this position, we approached developing methodology - procedures, research techniques and instruments, relying on the recommendations given by professionals dealing with artistic development and art giftedness theoretically and through practical research. This methodology, as well as the results achieved through implemented research are presented in the article. With the sample of close to 350 preschool children in our local community, we were able to identify visual art giftedness in around dozen preschoolers, proving our instruments and procedures efficient enough. On the basis of these results, we can further work on improving and refining this methodology reaching as many artistically gifted children as possible, striving to support their giftedness.

Drawing the Masters: The Formation of Giovan Battista Bassi and the Methods of the Accademia Clementina

This article expands our understanding of the formation and early career of the landscape painter Giovan Battista Bassi (Massa Lombarda, 1784-Rome, 1852), and, in particular, of his time at the Accademia Clementina in Bologna. An investigation of his production – with a focus on four Bassi drawings – paired with an analysis of newly discovered archival documents reveals that the Academy’s landscape painting students began by studying etchings of famous artists, such as Giovan Battista Piranesi, from the collection of Pope Benedict XIV. From these etchings they borrowed various elements, which can be clearly identified in their invented and idealised landscapes. For their annual end-of-year exam, students were challenged to reproduce actual landscapes, creating unique compositions based on real environments. An analysis of Bassi’s artistic evolution during his studies at the Academy, under Bolognese master Vincenzo Martinelli, together with an investigation of the Academy’s archives, sheds light not only on Bassi’s formation but also on the pedagogical methods employed in the Academy before its 1803 closure.

A Retrospective of Steinbeck Biographies

Abstract John Steinbeck has been the subject of seven biographies. After a brief definition of what constitutes a “literary biography,” these seven biographies are here divided into three classes: non-literary biographies, full-length biographies (which treat Steinbeck’s life as a whole), and books that chronicle an important relationship between Steinbeck and a person who influenced his artistic development. Each biography is discussed in this order. Non-literary biographies include John Steinbeck, Knight Errant: An Intimate Biography of His California Years by Nelson Valjean (1975) and The Intricate Music: A Biography of John Steinbeck by Thomas Kiernan (1979). Full-length biographies include The True Adventures of John Steinbeck, Writer by Jackson J. Benson (1984), John Steinbeck: A Life by Jay Parini (1995), and Mad at the World: A Life of John Steinbeck by William Souder (2020). Biographies that highlight one of Steinbeck’s important relationships include John Steinbeck and Edward F. Ricketts: The Shaping of a Novelist by Richard Astro (1973), and Carol and John Steinbeck: Portrait of a Marriage by Susan Shillinglaw (2013).

The artistic peculiarities of Alexandru Grecu’s direction from the last decade of the 20th century

The article provides a brief analysis of the process of the artistic development of Alexandru Grecu’s creative personality and the manifestation of his distinct directorial peculiarities in the performances: Ce e viaţa omului/ What is the life of a man, Moţoc, Hercules, Unde mergem, domnilor?/Where are we going, gentlemen?, Triunghiul păcatului/The triangle of sin, Moliere, Căsătorie cu de-a sila/Forced Marriage, Ciuleandra, Care-s sălbaticii?/ Who are the savages?, Metamorphoses I, Metamorphoses II, S.R.L, The Moldovan, the Master and Margarita. Examining the peculiarities of Alexandru Grecu’s direction, the author reveals the artistic message that identifies the interconnection and interdependence of public life and of each individual in a rapidly changing world. The article emphasizes the fact that, being a relevant component of the artistic culture of the era of postmodernism, the performances of Alexandru Grecu, as a distinct sociocultural phenomenon, reveal through the prism of a multidimensional theatrical action the essence of the phenomena of social life, basing its artistic approach on the dramatic material, its stage interpretation, the situation and the moment in which the stage creation is produced.
