The Impact and Spatial Spillover Effects of Tourism Development on Urban Welfare: Empirical Evidence from the Yangtze River Delta in China

The ultimate goal of China’s tourism industry is to create a flourishing sector that brings happiness. It is of immense theoretical and practical importance to investigate the impact of tourism development (TD) on urban welfare (UW) and uncover its spatial spillover characteristics from a macro perspective. Utilizing panel data from 41 cities in the Yangtze River Delta region from 2000 to 2021, this study applies the spatial panel Durbin model to explore the direct and spillover effects of TD on UW. The results show that TD significantly boosts UW in both local and neighboring areas, with the spillover effects taking a dominant position in the total effects. Examining the sub-dimensions of UW, the local welfare effects of TD primarily stem from economic welfare, whereas the spillover effects are characterized by the “three-wheel drive” of economic, social, and environmental welfare. This study can provide practical insights into the coordinated and sustainable development of the regional tourism industry.

On the Path of High Level Development of Tourism and Cultural Industry in Ethnic Minority Regions

Comprehensively promoting rural revitalization and focusing on promoting high-quality development is a major strategic deployment proposed in the report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. Promoting the higher-level development of the tourism and cultural industry in ethnic minority areas is not only a concrete manifestation of implementing the new development concept and continuously consolidating the achievements of poverty alleviation, but also an inherent requirement for promoting the rapid development of the cultural industry, enhancing the country's soft power and competitiveness. It is also an inevitable choice for advancing the task of comprehensively building a socialist modernized country. However, due to multiple factors such as geographical location and historical conditions, there is still significant room for adjustment in achieving higher levels of development in the tourism and cultural industry in ethnic minority areas. This article focuses on ethnic minority areas with relatively lagging economic development in the rural revitalization strategy, studies the current development status and improvement paths of the tourism and cultural industry in these areas, comprehensively analyzes the problems and reasons faced by the tourism and cultural industry in ethnic minority areas, and proposes corresponding countermeasures and suggestions based on reality.

Development of Rural Cultural Tourism Industry under the Digitalization of National Culture: A Case Study of the Yellow River Basin in Huyi District, Xi'an City

The report of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China made important arrangements for accelerating the construction of digital China and implementing the national cultural digitalization strategy, clearly proposing to "accelerate the development of the digital economy and promote the deep integration of the digital economy and the real economy"[7] Rural tourism is the key to promoting the breakthrough and development of the private economy and the county economy, as well as the key to promoting the adjustment, transformation and upgrading of the industrial structure. In addition, the improvement of the governance of villages near the Yellow River Basin has carried out a lot of theoretical research on the rural revitalization of the Yellow River Basin from different perspectives such as industrial prosperity, cultural inheritance, ecological restoration, and rural governance, which has laid a good theoretical support for the research and implementation of this project. However, compared with the eastern region, there are still a series of problems in the development process of rural cultural tourism in the western region, and some problems have not yet been solved. The Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th CPC Central Committee proposed that the development of the rural economy should be promoted through the development of industry so that the peasants can live a better life. Therefore, under the requirements of the governance of the Yellow River Basin and the strategy of rural revitalization, it is of great significance to study and discuss the main problems existing in the integrated development of the cultural and tourism industry in the Hubei District of Xi'an City, and put forward targeted opinions and suggestions, which is of great significance to promote the high-quality development of the cultural and tourism industry.

Forest Wellness Tourism Development Strategies Using SWOT, QSPM, and AHP: A Case Study of Chongqing Tea Mountain and Bamboo Forest in China

Forests drive tourism growth in China, offering ecologic and economic benefits over urbanization trends. Wellness tourism, aligned with UN goals, thrives in forest settings, though challenges remain, particularly in the underinvested forest regions of Western China. This study aims to identify and rank the forest wellness tourism industry development strategies for Chongqing Tea Mountain and Bamboo Forest National Park in China. The SWOT method was used to construct the strategy, while the AHP method and QSPM matrix were used to rank the selected strategies. The data used in the analysis were the survey questionnaire data of 356 individuals to construct the model to identify the strategies, and the interview data of 23 experts to rate the strategies using the Delphi method. The effectiveness of eight internal and seven external factors for forest wellness tourism was evaluated. The survey results highlight the most significant advantages of the Chongqing Tea Mountains and Bamboo Forest as being its “beautiful natural and unique scenery”, and its most significant shortcomings as its “insufficient supporting facilities and weak infrastructure”. The QSPM matrix analysis reveals that the ‘offensive strategy’ is the best. The results also emphasize the importance of “Protecting the diverse tourism resources to keep the market prospect and promote wellness industry development” in the study areas. Therefore, the potential of developing forest wellness tourism in this area should be considered and included in the agenda of policy makers to strengthen the development of forest wellness tourism, improve the economic status of the tourism of the jurisdiction, and create employment opportunities in tourism-related businesses.

People's Livelihood in Zhejiang Practice and Development

2023 marks the 20th anniversary of the implementation of the "Double Eight Strategy". Under the guidance of the policy, this study visited seven counties in Zhejiang (Jinhua Pujiang, Jinhua Panan, three counties in Wenzhou, Taizhou Linhai, Ningbo Ninghai) to develop local industries according to local conditions as the central theme, and conducted research from the aspects of infrastructure construction, leading development of party construction, agricultural science and technology construction, cultural tourism industry development and comprehensive application. On the basis of practical exploration, this study summarizes and proposes the "T-E-T" innovation model of people's livelihood based on data analysis, refining the model core of "promoting people's livelihood by combining culture and tourism, restoring and stabilizing people's livelihood by infrastructure, guiding people's livelihood by The Party Construction, and promoting people's livelihood by science and technology", and building a solid "TET" framework with education, talents and technology as the starting point. Adhere to the problem-oriented, focus on the new problems encountered in practice and the people's urgent problems, and explore new ideas and new ways to solve new problems.

Wildlife conservation through traditional values: alarming numbers of crocodile attacks reported from Timor-Leste

Abstract On the IUCN Red List the saltwater crocodile Crocodylus porosus is categorized globally as Least Concern, with national populations ranging from fully recovered to extinct. The saltwater crocodile population of the Southeast Asian island nation of Timor-Leste was severely depleted by colonial hunting but has recovered since independence in 2002. During 2007–2014 there was a 23-fold increase in reported crocodile attacks (104 documented attacks), concomitant with a 2% annual increase in the human population. Public tolerance to attacks and the reluctance to harm crocodiles are entwined with reverence of crocodiles as sacred beings by most but not all Timorese people. In 2022, 7–8 years after our previous assessment, we visited five sites on the south coast of Timor-Leste in Lautém, Viqueque, Manufahí and Cova Lima municipalities. High rates of crocodile attacks continue. We obtained 35 records of attacks for 2015–2022 (34% fatal). In the municipalities where crocodile attacks occurred (Lautém, Viqueque, Cova Lima), the sacred status of crocodiles prevented inhabitants from harming them in retribution. In Manufahí, where no attacks were reported, such traditional values never existed and crocodiles were hunted for subsistence and to improve safety. The design of a context-specific crocodile management programme that respects the reverence attributed to crocodiles by most people but reduces the risk of people being attacked by crocodiles is a conservation management challenge for the government of Timor-Leste. The developing tourism industry, which relies on coastal beaches and reefs, is jeopardized by the risk of crocodile attacks.

When a villager is a rural homestay operator: role expectation research using the machine learning model?

ABSTRACT With the growing development of the Chinese rural tourism industry, villagers are gradually becoming involved in tourism, and the role of rural inhabitants has shifted. However, understanding tourists’ expectations of rural tourism operators remains challenging. This paper uses machine learning techniques such as LDA and SnowNLP to analyse online review data from 115 rural homestays in Hainan Province. Five topics of role expectations are identified, which can be grouped into quality expectations, image expectations, obligation expectations and attached expectations. Corresponding types of content are then mapped onto a convertible and dynamic model of residents’ role expectations, based on the concepts of ascribed status and achieved status, to discover the mechanism of role transformation of rural homestay operators. It is worth emphasising that residents’ roles are not singular in the particular spatial context of rural tourism operations. Image expectations within the achieved status can transfer from the ascribed status, while the gap between quality expectations and reality implies rural residents’ immaturity as operators. This study holds significant implications for the management and practice of rural tourism.

Constructing a Green Marketing Model for Tourism and Amusement Industry Development

Environmental sustainability has become an important international political issue and is considered a key driving force of innovation. Therefore, the consumers are paying more and more attention to the sustainably managing and environmentally friendly enterprises, and the enterprises are paying more and more attention to the importance of the green environmental management strategies.    Relatively they must pay attention to the issue of "sustainable management" which is an important consideration direction for the development strategy of business management. This study uses fuzzy analytic hierarchy process to conduct empirical analysis on tourism industry operators.In order to cope with changes in the market environment, it is necessary to promote the development strategy of "green marketing" to achieve sustainable management. When considering "sustainable operation", we should explore the development model of procurement, operation, and marketing. Therefore, this study suggests that the development of "green marketing" in the tourism industry should take "brand loyalty" and "corporate image" as the most important indicators. 

An Analysis on the High-Quality Development Path of Sports Tourism Industry in Shandong Province from the Perspective of Porter Rhomboid Theory

From the perspective of Porter's diamond theory, this paper analyzes the four basic elements of sports tourism in Shandong Province, namely resource elements, demand conditions, related industries and enterprise strategy, as well as the two role elements of opportunity and government, and finds that there are problems such as rich resources but unbalanced distribution of sports tourism in Shandong Province. Based on this, the author puts forward some development paths, such as increasing the mining and publicity of traditional resources, emphasizing the training of sports talents, stimulating the domestic demand of sports tourism, promoting the integration of sports tourism industry with other industries, improving laws and regulations, and strengthening the macro-guidance of the government, in order to provide certain theoretical references for the healthy, sustained and high-quality development of sports tourism industry in Shandong Province.

Design of rural tourism management cloud platform based on intelligent audio processing and sensor navigation positioning

People's living standards are constantly improving, and many people are eager to travel, especially to rural areas, which has become a tourism trend, which has also driven the local economy. Each place is actively utilizing the advantages of its own region to establish a unique tourism economic industry chain and seek the interests of local villagers. Based on this, this article takes the specific development of contemporary rural tourism industry as the basic research object, and develops a specialized rural tourism management cloud service system platform. The system mainly relies on intelligent audio processing and related navigation and positioning functions. By finely processing the collected intelligent audio signals, utilizing specialized data conversion tools to improve the accuracy of the collected signals, and using a linear aliasing model to handle subsequent problems. We also propose a carrier based system coordinate for navigation and positioning algorithms, which can estimate the optimal information value among them. In addition, this article also conducted a specific analysis of the performance of two models, namely the single step model and the Seq2Seq model. The tourism management cloud service system platform for rural areas based on intelligent audio related processing and precise navigation positioning proposed in this article can effectively promote the development of local rural tourism and improve the quality of life of villagers.

The Influence Factors of Economic Development of Tourism Industry

Objectives: This paper aims to conduct research on the factors that impact the advancement of the tourism economy in order to adapt to the rapidly changing demands of the tourism market. Methods: A case study was performed using a gray correlation model to analyze the tourism industry in Henan Province. Findings: Among the first-level indicators, tourism economic support had the highest correlation with tourism economic development, followed by tourism physical base, tourism transportation influence, tourism human resources, and tourism information service. Then, relevant suggestions were given according to the analysis results. In the new era of the integrated development of culture and tourism, the tourism industry is facing the new requirements of high-quality development, and it needs to pay more attention to customer satisfaction, improve service quality, and build a service brand so as to win the future. This paper takes Shanghai Spring & Autumn International Travel as an example, by analyzing some of the problems existing in the service quality of the current tourism enterprises, combining the theory of perceived service quality model and the theory of service quality gap, exploring the elements affecting the service quality of travel agencies, and putting forward reasonable suggestions to promote the high-quality development of China's tourism industry.

What keeps historical theme park visitors coming? Research based on expectation confirmation theory.

Culture is one of the most important factors in attracting tourists and influencing the tourist experience. In China, "theme park" is a new field of tourism research, an excellent theme park can not only drive the development of a city's tourism industry, but also help it better publicize its history and culture. The article takes Kaifeng, China as the background, and selects the Song Dynasty historical and cultural theme park, which was established based on the traditional ink painting Qingming Riverside Drawing, as an example, to study the factors affecting tourists' travel experience in historical and cultural theme parks, and based on which it explores the reasons for the formation of tourists' satisfaction and post-trip behavioral intentions, to provide references and suggestions for the development of cultural theme parks from the point of view of travel experience. Based on the expectation confirmation theory, this essay introduces five constructs, namely, expectation (tourism motivation), performance (service quality), confirmation (tourism experience), satisfaction, and post-trip behavior intention, to construct a model of the factors influencing tourists' satisfaction by tourism experience in historical theme parks and analyze the intrinsic correlation among the factors within the model. It is found that tourists' tourism experience is mainly affected by tourism motivation and service quality, satisfaction and post-trip behavior intention are jointly determined by the above three. According to the research results, this study believes that tourism motivation, service quality, and tourism experience should be the focus of attention of the current tourist destinations, therefore, focusing on tourists' motivation to optimize the quality of service, helping tourists to enhance the sense of tourism experience, and improving based on the above focuses is of great significance to promote the development of historical and cultural theme parks.

By analyzing the behavior patterns of tourists on social media platforms, social network analysis algorithms can identify the factors that influence their decision-making, such as personal preferences, social influence, and situational context, and generate personalized recommendations to improve their travel experience. For example, if a tourist has shown a preference for outdoor activities on social media, tourism behavior prediction systems can recommend relevant activities and destinations that match their interests. These systems can also incorporate real-time data, such as weather forecasts and traffic conditions, to adjust recommendations accordingly. Overall, tourism behavior prediction based on social network analysis can provide tourists with more personalized and satisfactory travel experiences, while also promoting the development of local tourism industries.

Purpose: TV news contents spread out via various media instantly and simultaneously. Focusing on those who are exposed to TV news contents on Gangneung, the city of cultural tourism, this study aims to identify the impact of TV news contents on travel motivation (i.e., intrinsic (PUSH) and the destination attraction factors (PULL)), travel satisfaction, and behavioral intention
 Methods: Using quota sampling, 656 data were collected from Gangneung visitors. Several statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS 28.0, including frequency analysis, reliability analysis, principal component analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis.
 Results: The results revealed the following key findings. Firstly, among the factors of timeliness, reliability, and usefulness, the usefulness factor showed the most significant influence in both PUSH and PULL factors, indicating that positive or negative news coverage about the region alters travelers' destination selection and decision-making. Secondly, among the PUSH and PULL factors, sociability, pleasure-seeking, natural scenery, and convenience had a significant impact on travel satisfaction, while escapism and entertainment did not affect travel satisfaction. Thirdly, travel satisfaction significantly influenced the intention to revisit and TV news viewing intention. Lastly, timeliness and usefulness of TV news had a significant impact on viewing intention, but reliability did not show such influence.
 Conclusion: Positive or negative news coverage about the region in TV news affects the development of the local tourism industry. In case of small local cities with a weak financial independency, the utilization of news media is an effective avenue to tourism promotion.

Study on the Coordinated Development of Tourism Industry–Regional Economy–Ecological Environment in the Yili River Valley

This study aims to clarify the relationship among the three systems of tourism industry, regional economy, and ecological environment in the Yili River Valley, which is essential for the sustainable development of the region. We explore the spatio-temporal evolution characteristics and influencing factors of the tourism–economy–ecosystem in the Yili River Valley using the center of gravity model, spatial mismatch index model, spatial variance model, and obstacle degree model, based on panel data from 2010 to 2019. The study shows that (1) the comprehensive development indices of the tourism industry, regional economy, and ecological environment in the Yili River Valley exhibit varying degrees of growth trends. Smaller increases are observed in ecological environment indices, while larger increases are found in regional economy and tourism industry indices. Both the regional economy and tourism industry indices share a strong correlation and similar development trends. (2) At the macro-regional scale, during the study period, the centers of gravity of the tourism industry, regional economy, and ecological environment in the Yili River Valley have consistently been separated from the spatial geometric center of the region. The degree of misalignment of the centers of gravity of the three systems as a whole has gradually reduced, indicating that the level of coordinated development of the region has continuously improved. (3) At the micro-regional scale, during the study period, most of the spatial misalignment indices of the Yili River Valley regions showed positive and negative fluctuations, and the types of misalignment varied to different degrees. However, the gap in spatial misalignment indices between different regions gradually narrowed, and the divergent characteristics of “east-west concentration, north-south dispersion” were gradually broken, with the overall indices showing a balanced development trend. (4) The spatial dislocation index of each region in the Yili River Valley is affected by multiple systems and factors, and the overall spatial dislocation factors are mainly the comprehensive utilization rate of general solid waste, exhaust gas emission, dust removal amount, etc., which mostly originate from the ecological environment system.
