This paper examines the discussion shown on the anonymous and unpublished Comedia del valor de las letras y las armas (manuscript II-460, Biblioteca de Palacio) surrounding the classic topic sapientia et fortitudo, a subject of great splendour during the Renaissance which endured even during the 17th Century in Spain. They have made researches to serve as an example of its presence on the baroque theatre on some Lope de Vega’s plays, which coincide with the previously mentioned piece on the presentation of the pairing of the pen and the sword about the formation of the «completed» man. The mentioned text, conserved on the Gondomar Collection, turns into an original and extremely interesting link within the literary tradition of the issue on the Spanish theatre of the Golden Age.
