Abstract

This discussion sets out to define the aesthetics of Santa objetividad via an in-depth textual analysis of Salvador Dalí’s ‘San Sebastián’ as published in Spanish in Lorca’s literary magazine, Gallo in 1928. The text will be analysed before considering Lorca’s rebuttal and his own interpretation of the aesthetics of Santa objetividad in the Poemas en prosa (1927–1928). This discussion intends to shed light on an important aesthetic methodology that contributed to the evolution of Surrealism and through which we can trace the fault line that shattered the relationship between two of the great visionaries of twentieth century Spain.
