Construction monitoring and control of cable-stayed bridges without backstays

The cable-stayed bridge without backstays is an important branch of the cable-stayed bridge family. It tilts the bridge tower to one side and removes the backstay, using its own weight to balance the cable tension. It has the characteristics of novel structure and beautiful appearance and is highly favoured in urban construction both at home and abroad. In this paper, based on the construction of the main bridge of Jinzhou Bridge, a spatial model was established using finite element analysis software to simulate and analyse the construction process, with a focus on researching the construction control. Jinzhou Bridge has a novel structure and complex technology. The inclination angle of the bridge tower is the largest among its counterparts, and the difficulty of construction control is relatively high. This paper uses the adaptive control theory to control the construction of the main bridge of Jinzhou Bridge. During the construction process and the bridge state, the structure of Jinzhou Bridge is subject to reasonable stress and the bridge body is safe and reliable. The line shape of the main beam is basically smooth, further demonstrating the correctness of the construction control theory data.

Accelerated construction and geometry control of cable-stayed bridge: cable crane method

Mountainous regions with rugged terrain, steep valleys and restricted access to roads and rivers present distinctive challenges for segmented erection of cable-stayed bridges (CSBs). In recent years, the cable crane method (CCM) has emerged as an innovative solution for CSB construction to address the difficulties associated with vertically lifting and horizontally delivering girder segments in such challenging environments. However, integrating the CCM with a CSB introduces a coupling effect, significantly complicating the control of bridge geometry. In this work, the accelerated construction and geometry control for CSBs employing the CCM in mountainous regions were systematically studied. The characteristics of 1521 bridges in mountainous regions were investigated, followed by a numerical analysis of geometry control and field measurements of as-built geometries, forces and ambient conditions during construction. Critical techniques for CSB construction using the CCM are also clarified. The mechanical behaviour of a bridge during construction was comprehensively evaluated to improve geometry control. The numerical results were validated through field measurements, offering valuable insights for future CSB practices using the novel CCM.

Parametric modeling and engineering application of the high-speed continuous beam bridge based on Building Information Modeling.

To improve the informatization and intelligence level of high-speed railway (HSR) bridge construction, a parametric modeling method for continuous beam bridges based on Building Information Modeling (BIM) is proposed in this study. By this method, the parametric families of continuous beam components and key construction machinery are established, and the rapid modeling of overall continuous beam bridge and the simulation of critical construction process are realized as well. Taking the Caoxian-Shangqiu bridge of Xiong'an-Shangqiu HSR as a case study, the parametric modeling method is applied to conduct the engineering application on the prestressed duct layout and rebar clash detection. The results indicate that the modeling efficiencies of HSR continuous beam bridge and construction machinery are significantly increased by the established parametric modeling method. Based on the BIM model of continuous beam bridge, the improvement in the precision of prestressed duct layout and the elimination of rebar clash points can be achieved. The research achievement can guide the visualization of construction disclosure, enhance construction efficiency, and provide reference and technical support for the construction management and control of HSR continuous beam bridges.

Construction control of rigid frame-continuous girder bridge based on grey theory

To address the issue of excessive mid-span deflection in rigid frame-continuous girder bridges during the later stages of normal use and to provide a basis for setting the pre-camber of this bridge type. This study focused on a specific rigid frame-continuous girder bridge. Based on the outcomes of finite element analysis, a GM(1,1) model developed using grey theory was utilized to forecast the vertical deflection of the primary girder in the construction phase of a rigid frame-continuous girder bridge, resulting in notable outcomes. The results suggest that the GM(1,1) model grounded in grey theory offers precise estimations of the vertical deflection of the primary girder during the prestressing tendon tensioning stage, displaying a minimal deviation of merely 1.73 mm compared to actual measurements. Consequently, applying the GM(1,1) model based on grey theory for projecting the vertical deflection of the primary girder in the construction process of rigid frame-continuous girder bridges can advance the accuracy of construction management. Through comparative analysis of measured values estimated values and theoretical values at the construction site, it is evident that the predictive model effectively controls the displacement, thus serving as a reference for construction control in similar projects.

A Practical Approach to Alignment and Error Feedback Control for Long-Span Arch Bridges

The accurate installation of long-span arch bridges’ arch ribs remains a challenge due to the complex calculations required for cable forces and arch rib displacements, as well as the significant influence of environmental and construction loads. In this study, we propose a practical approach to alignment and error feedback control for long-span arch bridges. Cable forces were optimized using multiple control objectives based on influence matrix principles. The impact of temperature on the next segment to be installed was analyzed using the metastatic GM(1, 1) model and fitting results. Several tunable parameters were employed to account for parameter errors and environmental interference. These parameters were adjusted based on the deviations between practical and theoretical alignments for different arch rib segments, achieving a model output of an offset-free-tracking arch rib structure. This technology was applied to monitor the construction of the Tian’e Longtan Grand Bridge. Compared to conventional alignment control approaches, the proposed method achieved excellent arch ring alignment after the closure of the high-accuracy arch rib and cable release, as well as effective control of cable force uniformity and tower deviation. Field measurement data indicate that the closing deviation of the arch ring is only 3 mm. This study provides a valuable reference for the construction control of long-span arch bridges.

STUDY ON CONSTRUCTION MONITORING AND CONTROL OF MULTI-SPAN PRESTRESSED CONCRETE CONTINUOUS BEAM BRIDGE

This article focuses on the construction monitoring and control of a pre-stressed concrete continuous beam bridge, consisting of 13 spans. The goal is to ensure that the bridge structure meets the design requirements throughout the entire construction process. By comparing the theoretical and measured values of the bridge’s alignment and stress during the cantilever construction, closure, and completion phases, it can be observed that the deflection deformation of the bridge is generally in agreement with the theoretical calculations. After the completion of the entire bridge, the measured elevations of each section have an error range of -18mm to 20mm compared to the design elevations, which satisfies the specifications. A comparison analysis of the measured and theoretical stress values at the root and mid-span of the cantilever indicates that the stress difference at the root is within the range of -0.2MPa to 0.2MPa, and the stress differences at the mid-span after completion are 0.03MPa (upper) and 0.09MPa (lower), all of which meet the structural design and code requirements. By establishing a gray GM (1,1) model and using gray system theory, the deflection error during the construction process is predicted and controlled. The prediction accuracy of different methods is compared to determine a reasonable prediction method suitable for long-span pre-stressed continuous beam bridges, providing reference for similar engineering projects.

Application of Neuronal Intelligent Prediction Algorithms in Automated Decision Support for Bridge Construction

Abstract By predicting the construction elevation of a cable-stayed bridge with the help of the BP neural network, it was found that the BP neural network is suitable for the prediction of bridge construction, and an accurate prediction value can be obtained. The maximum deviation of the prediction value is 41.6 mm, which is a large error. Therefore, the use of intelligent algorithms to predict the linear elevation of cable-stayed bridge construction and reduce the impact of error can provide an important reference basis for the next stage of elevation control of standing molds and guarantee the accuracy of bridge construction control.

Evaluation of new target structure and recognition for point cloud registration and coordinates transformation of China’s large double-span bridge

In view of the limited precision of traditional point cloud registration methods in bridge engineering, as well as the lack of intuitive guidance for bridge construction control regarding relative coordinate relationships of point clouds, this study proposes a novel dual-purpose target for the total station and laser scanner, along with a corresponding algorithm. The scanning point cloud undergoes intensity filtering, clustering, planar denoising, contour extraction, centroid fitting, registration transformation, target recognition, registration, and coordinate transformation. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm can accurately extract the centroid coordinates of the targets and effectively handle complex on-site conditions. The coordinate transformation achieves high precision, with an amplification error of only 2.1 mm at a distance of 500 m. The registration precision between planar and spherical targets is nearly identical, surpassing that of planar iterative and ICP algorithms. Application of the algorithm in the context of China’s large double-span steel-tube concrete arch bridge scenario. it was found that the maximum deviation of the radius of the main chord tube was 10.8 mm, the maximum deviation of the distance from the center of the main chord tube was 8.3 mm, the average length of the merging opening was 775.0 mm, the maximum lateral deviation of the merging opening was 9.6 mm, and the maximum deviation of the height of merging opening was 25.2 mm. The results showed that no additional restraining measures were needed, and the smooth jointing could be realized only under a suitable temperature. Comparison with measurements obtained from the TS60 total station exhibits a close match, with a verification error within 3.9 mm, thereby meeting the precision requirements for construction control.

Asymmetric Cantilever Construction Control of a U-Shaped Box Concrete Continuous Bridge in Complex Environment

The bridge of Shanghai Metro Line 10 over Metro Line 6 is a U-shaped concrete single-box double-cell concrete box beam continuous bridge. A novel method is applied to construct the asymmetric cantilever prefabricated and assembled continuous bridge due to the limited construction space and the complex environment. Four mechanical state control methods are applied during the T-shape structure construction process: tensioning pre-stressed steel strand, jacking by the axial force servo system, adjusting the leg reaction force, and setting the auxiliary leg. Auxiliary measures such as the compressive column, side-span counterweight, and temporary pre-stressing are also taken into consideration. The finite element method simulations are performed to measure effects of the four control methods during the construction process. The front leg force of the bridge erection machine and the deflection of the bridge are then monitored. It was deduced that the simulated and measured values of the cantilever T-shape structure are controlled within the limit range during the construction process.

Optimization of Suspender Cable Force of Long-Span Concrete Arch Bridges Based on Embedded Matrix Method

In order to simplify the completion process of cable force optimization and adjustment in long-span concrete-filled steel tube arch bridges, a new method was proposed in the present study. To this end, a reasonable completion cable force calculation method was proposed based on the influence matrix principle of cable force optimization. Then combined with the mechanical characteristics of concrete-filled steel tube arch bridge, the weighted matrix was introduced to simplify the influence matrix of cable force and optimize the suspender cable force. The performed comparative study showed that the maximum difference of single cable force between the measured and calculated values is less than 5%, and the calculation error satisfies the requirements of the specification. It is concluded that the proposed method can accurately control the suspender tension construction in the arch bridge, optimize the cable force of long-span concrete filled-steel tube arch bridge, and realize the comparison and selection of various optimization schemes. The research results have been successfully applied to the suspender force adjustment of Third Pingnan Bridge, which greatly simplifies the adjustment steps and the total cable force difference in the whole bridge is 1.37%, the difference between the measured and designed suspender tensions of Heshan Hongshui River Bridge at completion state is less than 2%. The successful application of this method effectively saves the labor and material cost of suspender adjustment and further enhances the superiority of steel tube concrete arch bridge. The proposed method is expected to be an excellent choice to monitor constructions, adjust the bridge completion stage, and provide a reference for the suspender tension construction control of similar bridges.

With the advancing development of structural performance and construction techniques, continuous concrete box girder bridges have been widely used due to their advantages including their broad applications, good appearance, and reliable structural safety. However, as the bridge span and its construction demands are increasing, the bridge construction process tends to be more complex. Especially, the construction methods and bridge installation sequences of cantilever bridges not only exert structural internal force on the bridge construction process but also affect the internal force and line shape of the bridge structure of finally constructed bridges. Hence, it is essential to realize bridge construction control. Only in the presence of the excellent construction control performance, can the structural safety in the bridge construction process can be ensured while meeting the designed requirements of bridge line shapes and internal forces of constructed bridges. In this research, by taking the Weihe grand bridge located at Shandong Province, China as construction background, the specific targets and methods of bridge construction control were introduced for the reference of bridge construction and research.

This paper focuses on the theme of bridge construction control, using the finite element analysis and calculation program as the platform, taking a concrete-filled steel tube concrete basket arch bridge as the research object, combining the theoretical foundation of the concrete filled steel tube basket arch bridge, and using finite element software to simulate the rotating structure in three dimensions Simulation, analysis of the force status and longitudinal and lateral changes of the rotating structure at various angles and when closing, and the structural stability analysis of the rotating process. The most unfavorable stress conditions and the most vulnerable to instability conditions are determined. And through simulation, the accuracy of the line shape of the steel pipe arch rib in the vertical rotation process, the accuracy of the arch axis detection and the accuracy of the elevation detection are estimated.

Research on a Prediction algorithm of Bridge Engineering Mechanics parameters based on Deep Learning

With the increase of the span of cable-stayed bridge, the influence of geometric nonlinear factors in engineering mechanics is becoming more and more obvious, so it is necessary to seek the construction alignment prediction method of long-span cable-stayed bridge considering the influence of geometric nonlinearity. In this paper, we analyze the basic principle and improvement measures of BP neural network algorithm, establish a prediction model with the help of Matlab language, and discuss its application in the construction control of long-span cable-stayed bridge. Taking a large span steel box girder cable-stayed bridge with a main span of 1088m as the engineering background, the rationality and feasibility of this method are verified, which provides a reference for the alignment control of the same type of bridge.

Comparative analysis of calculation methods for Cable Curve of Landscape Suspension Bridges

The main cable curve control of landscape suspension bridge is not only the premise of achieving the ideal completed state, but also the key problem of suspension bridge construction control. By analysing the characteristics of the main cable of anchored double tower landscape suspension bridge, the analytical equations for calculating the main cable curve of suspension bridge are derived by parabolic method and segmented catenary method. Then combined with practical work, the main cable curve was calculation methods by using the two calculation methods. Results show that both the parabolic method and the catenary method can be used for the preliminary design of the main cable curve of the landscape suspension bridge, but the segmented catenary method with repeated revision iteration has higher accuracy.

Structural health monitoring on a steel-concrete composite continuous bridge during construction and vehicle load tests

This study presents the structural health monitoring system of an I-shaped steel-concrete composite girder bridge during construction and vehicle load tests. Strains and deflections were monitored. A finite element model was built and calibrated. Vehicle load tests were carried out for various load conditions. Measured results show that the strains in the concrete slab and steel beams changed rapidly in the first 15 days and stabilized. The composite girder was in an elastic working state under the vehicle load tests. This research provides guidance for the construction control and safety evaluation of similar I-shaped steel-concrete composite bridges in the future.

Analysis of Parameter Sensitivity of Construction Control of Multi Span PC Continuous Beam Bridge with Corrugated Steel Webs

In order to study the sensitivity of construction control of multi span PC continuous beam bridge with corrugated steel webs, taking the main bridge of Yesheng Yellow River Highway Bridge in Ningxia as an example, the space finite element analysis software is used to simulate the bridge and calculate the construction control. In the process, different values of the main parameters of the structure affect the degree of the linear and internal stress of the bridge. The calculation results show that the effects of shrinkage and creep of concrete roof and floor, segmental weight and temperature gradient on the deformation and stress of the main beam are obvious; the elastic modulus of the concrete has a certain degree of influence on the deformation and stress of the main beam, and the influence of the prestressing parameters is smaller. Therefore, in the process of construction control, the influence of shrinkage and creep of the concrete roof and floor shall be considered, the weight of the main beam shall be strictly controlled, and the effect of the measurement time and the temperature gradient effect shall be taken into account in the linear monitoring.
