Home Care for the Elderly under the Epidemic of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia

Objective: To explore the effects of home care in the elderly patients under the epidemic of COVID-19. Methods: According to the hospital deployment and guidance documents, a series of actions were worked out, including the home care service process and contingency plan, training of the knowledge of novel coronavirus pneumonia (NCP), providing psychological intervention for nurses, providing home care for elderly patients at home and education about home prevention of COVID-19 for the elderly family. Results: From January 19 to March 31, 2020, the home visiting nurses provided home care service for 93 elderly patients at home, representing a 20% increase over the same period last year. The home care service included retention / replacement of gastric tube, retention / replacement of urinary tube, pressure ulcer care, sputum suction care, maintenance of peripherally inserted central catheters and venous blood collection for 127 times. The home visiting nurses were in good physical condition without any bad mood. Conclusion: Under the epidemic of COVID-19, more home-based elderly patients had home care service needs. Home care could not only take advantage under the epidemic situation, but also meet the medical needs of elderly patients at home, and effectively alleviate the burden of epidemic prevention and reduce the risk of cross infection. Home care could play a great role in prevention and control of the COVID-19 epidemic.

Personal Alienation as a Factor in the Occurrence of Hypochondriac Disorders in the Elderly

The relevance of the article is conditioned upon socio-cultural factors, in particular the problem of demographic ageing of the population, as a result of which there is a need for new research on the specific features of the physical and mental state of health of elderly people in order to develop an appropriate level of assistance to them based on causal relationships. The purpose of the scientific article is a theoretical analysis of personal alienation as one of the factors in the occurrence of hypochondriac disorders in the elderly. The study of the chosen problem allowed applying general research methods, namely system analysis, synthesis, generalisation and systematisation. The article provides a theoretical analysis of the problem of personal alienation as a factor in the occurrence of hypochondriac disorders in the elderly. The article reveals the specific features of experiencing personal alienation in the elderly, its socio-psychological characteristics and causes of development. It was found out that the phenomenon of alienation in older people is based on the emotional and personal aspects, as a result of which the probability of hypochondriac disorders increases. A theoretical justification of the semantic load of the concept of hypochondriac disorders is given, the attributes of their occurrence and development in old age are considered, including the types of the most common diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, from the list of hypochondriac disorders. Among the main manifestations of hypochondria in the elderly, increased anxiety, depression, apathy, lack of trust, sentimentality, frustration, despondency, fear of the future, bad mood, etc. were found. The obtained results of the study provide an exhaustive analysis of the chosen problem, which is the scientific value of the work and also become the theoretical basis for the development of further practical methods for preventing the appearance of hypochondriac disorders in the elderly

The level of mood regulation in practicing hatha yoga in the background of people who do not practice this physical activity

Introduction: The aim of the study was to analyze mood regulation in people practicing hatha yoga in the background of people who do not practice this sport activity. Materials and Methods: 96 Respondents from the Slaskie and Kujawsko-Pomorskie province took part in the research The subjects were divided into two groups: practicing hatha yoga (N = 46) and control (N = 49). The analysis was carried out by means of a diagnostic survey using the standardized tool: Mood Control Scales. During the tests, the age and sex of the respondents were taken into account. Results: The average results of males and females exercising and not exercising hatha yoga in the Elevated Mood Scale are very similar to each other and range from 3.91 to 3.97 in women and from 3.87 to 3.91 in men. The results of men in the Depressed Mood Scale, as in the Elevated Mood Scale, differ slightly. However, a large difference, up to 0%, can be noticed by observing the results of women, 2.22 for exercising women and 2.79 for non-exercising women. Conclusions: Practicing hatha yoga has a beneficial effect on the level of mood regulation, contributing to the improvement of the mental state, the implementation of vital tasks and life goals and, consequently, reducing the negative mood and proper social functioning. Decreasing the level of low mood positively affects the quality of life. People with the ability to regulate the mood are less subject to mechanisms exacerbating the negative mood and, consequently, do not undertake the procedures leading to this mood. It can therefore be assumed that a bad mood is not treated in the category of failure, life catastrophe or a state without a way out. The conducted research allowed to show a greater tendency to reduce the level of low mood in women practicing hatha yoga. In the analysis, there were dependencies between the tendencies of mood regulation and gender. These dependencies were seen in women, whereas with men this did not play a significant role research did not play a significant role. However, there was no negative effect of the hatha yoga exercise on the level of mood.

Research on the Application of ASMR in the Development and Design of Sleeping Products

In order to improve the sleep quality of the urban population and effectively alleviate the influence of a bad mood before sleep on sleep quality. Through the use of Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (AMSR) induces a sensory phenomenon to help sleep, combine this new experience with the design, according to the features of this sensory phenomenon formulate a sleeping product scheme, discovering the new way to help to ease symptoms of sleep disorders. Through comparative experiments, test the sleep time of the target population, it is utilized to compare the sleeping time of the subjects after the application of the product. Analyse the feasibility and effectiveness of the product. The result showed that apply this product, 66% of the subjects reported that it was good to sleep, the validity of this method is proved.

Manpower and Employees’ Attitudes Are Very Important in An Organisation

KFC or also known as Kentucky Fried Chicken is one of the most leading fast food restaurants around the world. KFC that originally from America has thrived around the world including Malaysia and Kuwait. Although it is an advanced company, it still has some sensitive internal issues that will cause problems to the company. If this problem is not carefully and wisely deal with, it will drop the company name and bring a negative impact to everyone that involved in the company. In this research, we examine the issues in an organization and KFC is the subject of our study. KFC has been in a bad mood for the past few years. Many of the customers complaint about the services and the attitudes of the employee in the restaurant. In Jan 2015, a case of brawl between KFC employees and customers was viral in social media and there also a case where KFC employees show pornographic signs to customers. This shows the attitude and the behavior of KFC employees who do not adhere to ethics and are not prudent will affect the good name of a company. Employees issues in KFC is the best topic to be discuss in this study. There lot of problem that face by KFC in term of employees such as lack of manpower in their branches. If compare from our observation, there a huge difference between the number of workers in KFC and its competitor, Mc Donald. Therefore, we can see that Mc Donald is more efficient than KFC although KFC has lower cost for their human resource.

Analysis of psychological stress and its influencing factors in pregnant women in late pregnancy

Objective To explore the status quo and influencing factors of psychological stress in pregnant women in the third trimester, and to propose reasonable intervention measures to improve their current situation, and to provide reference and guarantee for their smooth transition through pregnancy. Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate 92 pregnant women in the second trimester of pregnancy from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University from June 2017 to June 2018 by using questionnaires, quality of life and stress scales.The results of the survey were investigated and analyzed. Results The survey showed that the average psychological stress score of pregnant women in the third trimester was (1.79±0.46)points.The main stressors were psychological pressures to protect the health of pregnant women and the safety of the fetus.The planned pregnancy was the influencing factor of psychological stress (F=2.456, P=0.015). The negative life events and subjective support and stressors 1, 2, 3, etc.as independent variables, the results showed that stress source 2, positive life events and anxiety were the main influencing factors of patients' psychological stress (t=6.874, 3.692, 2.754, all P<0.05). Conclusion The psychological stress status of pregnant women in the third trimester is moderate, and the planned pregnancy is the influencing factor.The main psychological stress is to protect the health of the pregnant woman and the safety of the fetus.Therefore, the clinical counseling can be actively carried out in the clinic and the intervention of pregnant women's psychology should be strengthened to alleviate the bad mood and relieve psychological stress. Effect of cognitive-behavioral therapy combined with family rehabilitation therapy on improving depression patients

Objective To explore the effect of cognitive-behavioral therapy combined with family rehabilitation therapy on improving depression patients. Methods Totally 82 depressive patients admitted to our hospital from February 2016 to January 2017 were randomly divided into the control group and the observation group according to the random number table method, with 41 cases in each group. Patients in the control group were treated with family rehabilitation therapy, while the patients in the observation group were treated with cognitive behavioral therapy on the basis of family rehabilitation therapy. After 12 months of intervention, the patients in the observation group were treated with cognitive behavioral therapy. The treatment efficiency, psychological status, coping style and medication compliance of the two groups were compared. Results After intervention the scores of Self-rating Depression Scale (SDS) and Hamilton Depression Scale (HAMD) in the observation group were (31.08±4.83), (14.14±3.52) points respectively, which were significantly lower than (36.97±2.73), (16.68 ±2.14) points of the control group (t=-6.789,-3.948, P < 0.01). The effective rate of the observation group was 97.56% (40/41), which was significantly higher than 70.05% (32/41) of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (χ2=5.581, P<0.05). The scores of problem solving and help seeking items in the observation group were (1.66±0.18) and (1.81±0.21) respectively, significantly higher than (1.39±0.11), (1.48±0.13) of the control group; avoidance and self-blame items were (1.33±0.12) and (1.47±0.14) respectively, significantly lower than (1.58±0.19), (1.48±0.13) in the control group, and the difference was statistically significant (t=-8.349-8.555, P < 0.05). After treatment, the compliance of the observation group was significantly better than that of the control group (χ2= 8.902, P < 0.05). Conclusion Cognitive behavioral therapy combined with family rehabilitation therapy for depression patients can effectively improve the bad mood of patients, improve their medication compliance, and achieve better clinical treatment results. &amp;lt;jats:p&amp;gt;Introduction: Postpartum depression negatively affects a woman&amp;#039;s quality of life and the development of a relationship with her child, which can have far-reaching consequences on the cognitive, behavioral and emotional development of the child. Etiology includes genetic predisposition, sudden hormonal changes, and sociodemographic factors. Case report: A 28-year-old patient, married, mother of a one-month-old boy. She graduated from the High school of economics, unemployed. She appears in the family medicine clinic due to chronic fatigue and bad mood, at the insistence of her husband, who thinks that she needs professional help. She grew up in a harmonious family. He gets along well with his wife, there are no existential problems. It denies previous illnesses. Neat appearance, inconspicuous posture and behavior, psychomotor diskette slowed down, more sparse spontaneous verbalization, slightly compromised volitional instinctual dynamisms, lowered basic mood. In the laboratory findings, hypothyroidism with elevated thyroid peroxidase antibody and antithyreoglobulin antibodies is detected. The thyroid ultrasound verifies the right lobe of 46x14x15mm, the left lobe of 48x13x12mm, inhomogeneous and easily hypoechoic structure. The Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale indicates the presence of depression (total score 18). The patient is referred for a consultative examination by a psychiatrist and a nuclear medicine specialist. Psychiatrist indicates the introduction of Sertralin 50 mg tablets (1x1/2 for the first seven days, then 1x1) and Bromasepam tablets 1,5 mg (2x1/2), nuclear specialist Levotiroskin sodium tablets 50 mcg (1x1/2 for 5 days and 1x1 for 2 days). After six months, withdrawal of the symptoms of the disease and exclusion of therapy by a psychiatrist. Conclusion: Autoimmune thyroid disease is a significant and often unrecognized cause of postpartum depression. Early detection and timely therapeutic intervention of these have a significant role in the prevention and successful treatment of postpartum depression.&amp;lt;/jats:p&amp;gt;

The Association of Cyber-Bullying and Adolescents in Religious and Secular Schools in Israel.

Internet usage during leisure time is a growing area of research, especially among adolescents. Our aim was to evaluate the association between Internet usage patterns of religious and secular adolescents, exposure to cyber-bullying, and psychosomatic symptoms in Israel. A cross-sectional study was carried out using questionnaires administered to 7166 students aged 11-17 (4223 secular; 2943 religious). Cyber-bullying was more common among secular students (11.4%) than religious students (8.4%). Multiple logistic regression predicting cyber-bullying showed significant results for boys, primary school age, Internet usage, bad moods, sleeping disorders, and dizziness. A comparison across school levels and between the education sectors did not show major differences in the probability to experience bullying. However, different characteristics played the role in explaining propensity to that experience. These findings can help to plan school-level oriented intervention programs to educate adolescents on prudent use of the Internet to combat the spread of cyber-bullying.

The Italian Version of the State-Trait Cheerfulness Inventory Trait Form: Psychometric Validation and Evaluation of Measurement Invariance

The State-Trait Cheerfulness Inventory–Trait Version (STCI-T60) measures the temperamental basis of sense of humor involving theoretically derived personality dispositions of cheerfulness, seriousness, and bad mood. The reliability and validity of the newly developed STCI-T60 Italian version were assessed in a sample of Italian speakers ( N = 683). Proper fit for a three-dimensional factor structure observed in previous studies was replicated and each factor demonstrated acceptable internal consistency and test–retest reliability. The associations between the STCI subscales and major personality dimensions, optimism, resilience, stress, and general well-being were further examined and results were in the expected directions (e.g., cheerfulness and bad mood being positively and negatively associated with well-being variables, respectively). Cross-cultural invariance examination was conducted to provide more validity data for the Italian STCI. Metric invariance was found between Italian and Canadian English speakers ( N = 632), but scalar invariance was not shown.

SUMMARY: This paper deals with the issue of noise as an environmental pollutant, and furthermore it suggests possible solutions for this issue. Sound is a form of energy transmitted by sound waves. In general, sounds may be perceived as desirable or undesirable. Sounds which are considered undesirable and unwanted can be observed as noise, however the perception of sound in general is significantly subjective and individual. In particular, one person can perceive a certain sound as pleasant, whereas another could characterize it as annoying, unpleasant, and generally undesirable. This paper explains the term “noise” in detail, noise indicators as numerical values, and the ways noise can have a negative impact on people. Even today, noise pollution is often neglected compared to other environmental pollutions (i.e. water pollution, soil pollution, air pollution etc.). However, exposure to noise has an accumulative character. The consequences are noticeable after a prolonged exposure and can manifest themselves as bad mood, fatigue, insomnia, headache and loss of concentration, thereby having a direct influence on the quality of life. The focus of this paper is traffic noise and acoustical solutions which can reduce it. The dominant part of sound energy produced by traffic is in the middle-frequency range, which coincides with the range of maximum sensitivity of human hearing. When planning a new traffic route the negative influence of noise on people and the environment can be reduced by choosing the route which is remote from populated areas. In cases when the roads are fitted into the existing terrain and near populated areas, they can be equipped with protective noise barriers. The paper gives a detailed explanation on what noise barriers are, and an overview of different types of noise barriers that are currently in use. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of different types of noise barriers are discussed.

Effect of high quality nursing on bad mood, postoperative complications and nursing satisfaction of patients with radical gastrectomy

Objective To explore the effect of high quality nursing on bad mood, postoperative complications and nursing satisfaction of patients with radical gastrectomy. Methods A total of 30 patients in this hospital from April 2016 to April 2017 were selected as the research objects.They were divided into the control group and the observation group according to the order of admission, 15 cases of each group.The control group was given routine nursing, while the observation group was given high quality nursing.The complication rates, Self-rating Anxiety Scale(SAS)score, Self-rating Depression Scale(SDS)score and nursing satisfaction scores of the two groups were compared. Results After the nursing intervention, the SAS and SDS scores of the patients in the two groups were significantly reduced compared with those before the intervention. The scores of the observation group after the nursing were significantly lower than those of the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.05). The incidence of postoperative complications in the observation group was significantly lower than that in the control group, and the time to get out of bed and stay in hospital in the observation group were significantly shorter than those in the control group, with statistically significant differences (P<0.05). The mean satisfaction score of the observation group was significantly higher than that of the control group, and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05). Conclusion The implementation of quality nursing for patients with radical gastrectomy can improve the patients' bad mood, reduce the incidence of various postoperative complications, and improve the level of nursing satisfaction. Efficacy of Physiologically Active nutrients in the Treatment of Asthenic Disorders in Patients with Chronic Diffuse Liver Diseases

Over the period after an exacerbation of chronic liver diseases, patients often retain common symptoms (weakness or fatigue, bad mood, sleep disorder, vegetative disorders — asthenic syndrome). In the context of prevention and treatment of these symptoms, such nutraceutical products as enriched foods in the form of tablets, sachets, etc, have been increasingly attracting research attention.Aim.To study the efficacy of the “Hepato Smart” nutraceutical product for the treatment of asthenic syndrome in outpatients suffering from chronic diffuse liver diseases with compensated function and functional disorders of the gallbladder over the period after exacerbation.Materials and methods. The study included 50 patients, with 41 of them having completed the program. The nutraceutical product (curcumin, piperine, tanshinone IIA, choline; standardized for curcumin and choline) was assigned 1 pill 3 times a day with meals for 4 weeks. To objectify common symptoms, we used a D-FIS questionnaire (Daily Fatigue Impact Scale), a 4DSQ Four-Dimensional Symptom Questionnaire for assessing distress, depression, anxiety and somatization, and a SF-36 questionnaire for assessing the quality of life.Results.Following 4 weeks of the “Hepato Smart” course, a statistically significant decrease in fatigue was noted by D-FIS scores (p = 0.003), as well as a decrease in the level of distress, depression, anxiety and somatization by 4DSQ scores (p = 0.005; p = 0.006; p = 0.003; p = 0.003, respectively). The quality of patients’ life according to the SF36 questionnaire also improved due to both physical and psychological components (p = 0.003). 16 patients continued taking the preparation for another 8 weeks to maintain the achieved result. As an additional effect, the disappearance of pain in the right hypochondrium was noted in those cases when patients presented this complaint at the time of inclusion in the observation program. The safety profile was good, 1/3 of the patients noted the appearance of heartburn, which was eliminated when taking the product with food.Conclusion. The “Hepato Smart” nutraceutical product improves the general condition of patients with chronic diffuse liver diseases and functional disorders of the gallbladder due to a significant reduction in fatigue and anxiety. It also improves the quality of patients’ life due to the physical and mental components of health.

Menstrual pain is a problem that is quite disturbing activity and causes a bad mood so that women do not like menstrual pain. Primary dysmenorrhea is menstrual pain that is not associated with pathological abnormalities. Menstrual pain experienced by many young women is estimated at 40% to 50%. Many things are done to reduce pain such as the use of drugs or other ways such as the use of herbs, drinking juice, distraction, relaxation, massage or pressing the stomach, the use of aromatherapy, compresses, exercise and rest and sleep. Based on research conducted at Secang 3 Public Middle School, Magelang Regency shows that most teenagers who experience menstrual pain experienced mild pain 59 respondents (60.2%), moderate pain 30 respondents (30.6%) and severe pain 9 respondents (9.2%). Most of the students liked non-pharmacological therapy 96 respondents (94.1%) and 2 respondents (1.96%) chose pharmacological therapy which is antipain medication. The type of non-pharmacological therapy that has been chosen to reduce menstrual pain is depressing the stomach with the fetal position of 67 respondents (68.4%), resting or sleeping 62 respondents (63.3%). Most of the teenage girls during menstruation choose to press the stomach and sleep rest because it is easy to do, inexpensive and there are no side effects to the body. It is advisable to do activities to flex the uterine muscles as they approach menstrual days to reduce menstrual pain and medical examinations for those who experience severe pain.

The interaction effect of anxiety and mood on energy intake and blood pressure in healthy women university students

PurposeIn spite of the importance of food intake in weight management and preventing chronic diseases, it remains difficult to predict how anxious people change their eating behaviour in exposure to bad or good moods. The purpose of the study was to investigate the interaction effect of anxiety and different moods on food intake and blood pressure in healthy women students.Design/methodology/approachA total of 82 women university students (18-30 years) participated in the study. Subjects completed a valid anxiety questionnaire at baseline to measure trait and state anxiety scores, then they were randomly divided into two groups to watch comedy and drama movies for mood induction. After watching, some snacks were presented, and then energy intake and blood pressure were measured.FindingsStudents who suffered from severe state anxiety, consumed more energy from food when they watched a dramatic movie (p= 0.014). Subjects who suffered from moderate level of state anxiety and watched a dramatic movie experienced more systolic and diastolic blood pressure compared with subjects who suffered from moderate state anxiety but watched the comedy (p= 0.043 andp= 0.041, for systolic and diastolic blood pressure respectively). More diastolic blood pressure was shown among students who watched the drama movie and suffered from a severe level of trait anxiety (p = 0.049).Research limitations/implicationsElectrocardiography and stroke volume measurement were not used.Originality/valueOur findings showed blood pressure elevation in anxious people when they experienced bad feeling such as sadness, and they also consumed more energy from food. Both of these factors are related to the occurrence of chronic disorders such as cardiovascular diseases.

Relationship among depression, anxiety and social support in elderly patients from community outpatient clinic

Objective To explore the relationship among depression, anxiety and social support in elderly patients in community outpatient clinic. Methods A total of 551 elderly outpatients from two community health service centers of Hongkou District in Shanghai were evaluated with patient health questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), generalized anxiety disorder-7 (GAD-7), perceived social support scale(PSSS) for depression, anxiety, physical health and social support. Results The prevalence rates of depression and anxiety were 26.1% and 17.2%, respectively. The scores of PHQ-9 and GAD-7 were 2.0(4.0) and 1.0(2.0). There were statistically significant differences in the scores of family support, friend support, other support and social support among the elderly patients with different degrees of depression or anxiety (P<0.01). Family support(B=-0.196) and friend support(B=-0.171) were protective factors of depression in elderly patients in community outpatient clinic.Age, family support and friend support were protective factors of anxiety in elderly patients, while gender and fluctuation of physical diseases were protective factors of anxiety(P<0.05). Conclusions The depression and anxiety is intimately related to social support in elderly outpatients. Appropriate measures should be taken to optimize social support, mitigate bad mood negative improve their quality of life. Key words: Elderly outpatients; Depression; Anxiety; Social support

Prevalence and determinant of insomnia among family physician and nurses working in primary health care center of ministry of health in Jeddah in 2018, Cross sectional study

Introduction: Insomnia as lack of sleep or poor sleep quality affects psychological and physiological health among Health Care Personnel (HCP) primarily physicians and nurses that pose a threat on the quality of services their giving and safety to deal with patients. Aim of the Study: To evaluate the prevalence of insomnia among physician and nurses working in Primary Health Care (PHC) centers of the Ministry of Health in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia as well as to increased insomnia awareness on its risk factors. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional study involving 144 physicians and nurses from 8 PHC centers in Jeddah. Self-administered questionnaire was used for data collection. Results: Participants has average age of 35.06 ± 6.0, years of professional practice was 11.03 ± 6.7 (N=143). Insomnia prevalence among physicians and nurses working in PHC centers in Jeddah was 29.2%. In this study, insomnia or poor sleep quality was found significantly associated to demographic characteristics such as years in practice and presence of a child pre-existing health and metal conditions such as to emotional stress, chronic disease, bad moods and loss of interest in things interested before. Prediction models showed risk factors such as emotional stress, chronic disease, bad moods and years in practice were the most significant contributors to insomnia or poor sleep quality among participants. Conclusions: Among these risk factors, emotional stressor, chronic disease, bad moods and years in practice were the most effective contributors to insomnia. No evidence for hedonic shifts to bring about more moral hypocrisy: A comment on Lindenberg et al. (2018)

Lindenberg et al. report experimental evidence for the effect of hedonic shifts on subjects’ propensity to engage in moral hypocrisy. Hedonic shifts are changes in individuals’ cognitive states that can be triggered by cues in these individuals’ environments such as ambient smells. Individuals in a hedonic cognitive state aim at doing what makes them feel good. Hence, the authors hypothesize that (1) individuals who are in a bad mood and are put in a hedonic cognitive state will more often take a moral stance and (2) when asked to act morally refuse to do so, (3) especially when the costs for acting morally are high, and (4) even if the moral issue upon which they are asked to act is unrelated to the issue pertaining to the moral stance they took. The authors test these four hypotheses in two laboratory experiments and conclude that their results support these hypotheses. In this comment, I highlight design, measurement, and data analysis issues arising with the two studies that challenge this conclusion. Throughout my comment, I give some indications as to how a laboratory experiment testing these four hypotheses could be designed and conducted.

Application of six-step standard communication process in nursing communication with elderly lung cancer patients

Objective To explore the application effect of six-step standard communication process in nursing communication with elderly patients with lung cancer. Methods A six-step standard communication process training was conducted for 38 nurses in the Thoracic Surgery Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January to June 2017 selected by purposive sampling. Nurses' Clinical Communication Competence Scale (NCCCS) was used to evaluate the changes of nurses' communication ability with patients before and after training. A total of 38 elderly patients with newly diagnosed lung cancer in Thoracic Surgery Department from January to December 2016 were enrolled as the control group, and during their in-hospital period of time, the nurses had not received the training and their communication was in the conventional way; a total of 35 elderly patients with newly diagnosed lung cancer in Thoracic Surgery Department from July 2017 to June 2018 were enrolled as the observation group, and during their in-hospital period of time, the nurses had already completed the training and their communication mode was based on the six-step standard communication process. The two groups were compared in terms of their scores in Profile of Mood States-Short Form (POMS) 24 hours after getting newly diagnosed (before intervention) , 24 hours before operation (after intervention) , and their nursing satisfaction degree upon discharge. Results After training, nurses' communication ability in difficult situations, emotional perception ability, emotional support ability, basic language communication ability and basic non-verbal communication ability were significantly improved with statistical differences (P 0.05) ; after intervention, the observation group had lower scores in dimensions of depression-dejection , tension-anxiety , anger-hostility , confusion-bewilderment , and fatigue-inertia than the control group with statistical differences (P<0.05) . The observation group had higher nursing satisfaction degree upon discharge than the control group with statistical differences (P<0.05) . Conclusions For elderly patients with lung cancer in Thoracic Surgery Department, the application of six-step standard communication process can effectively improve the nursing communication efficacy, improve patient's bad mood and improve nursing satisfaction.
