The results of various intercomparison experiments organised by Eurados-Cendos, ORNL and PTB have been used as a basis to compare the dosimetric properties of personnel neutron dosemeters such as various albedo dosemeter types, etched track detectors and a combination dosemeter with bubble detectors. The paper presents an actual review of different techniques currently under study and discussed as alternatives in routine monitoring. Data are given for the energy response and the lowest detectable dose as a function of neutron energy as well as the angular response and uncertainty of measurement in standard fields. For intercomparison experiments more realistic radiation fields are recommended; problems and consequences are pointed out.
