Abstract
According to the paper, V. Brusov is a classic of the Russian modernist irony. It is irony that predetermines the writer’s aesthetic world view and poetic style, however, the issue has been off the critics’ grid. The paper considers collections of verses «Juvenilia», «Chefs d’oeuvre», «Me eum Esse» and a verse «Обязательства» (Commitment). The author concludes that the above-mentioned works are a distillation of irony, which can be identified by its trappings such as the poet’s disassociation from himself, excellence as infinity, impartiality, etc.
