Abstract

The goal of the paper is to analyze two eponymous verses entitled «A Monument» by G. Derzhavin and A. Pushkin, penned in the XIX century, and by V. Brusov and V. Khodasevich, created in the early XX century, to trace the transformation of the Horatian ode style over the three centuries. The analysis concludes that «A Monument» by V. Brusov followed the traditions of G. Derzhavin and A. Pushkin, being, nonetheless, their new embodiment. «A Monument» by V. Khodasevich is indirectly linked to the Horatian ode; nevertheless, it fits within the tradition, aiming at commemorating a person as such.
