Abstract
The article presents a brief review of the accumulated knowledge in the field of the perceptive world picture and its language reflection researches. The main trends in studying modes of perception in their monomodal, polymodal, and intermodal manifestation in philosophy, psychology and linguistics are analysed. Sensual reflection of the objective reality is represented by two different attitudes of our consciousness to the subjective one, - by sensation and by perception. The first traces of researches into these phenomena and their close connection with cognition are found in the works of the ancient philosophers. Along with philosophic ideas development the interaction of five sensation modalities was proved. This fact is sustained by various works of psychologists who go further in investigating the perceptive modes in their polymodal and intermodal manifestations. All these formed a basis for the linguistic researches of the perceptive world picture and its reflection in different languages. However the available results of the linguistic researchers have not moulded a coherent conception of this language world picture fragment in general, and of the English language world picture in particular.
