Abstract

According to the paper’s author, in the late XIX-early XX century symbolists were enchanted with the Eastern culture. Significantly, the East was a pillar of V. Brusov’s poetic world view. The paper analyzes the Eastern motives, images and topics in the poet’s creative heritage, in particular, in his collections of verses «Chefs d’oeuvre», «Me eum Esse», «Tertia Vigilia», verses «A Scholar», «On Easter Island», «A Priest», «Esarhaddon», as well as in his verses devoted to Alexander the Great, Cleopatra, etc. The analysis concludes that V. Brusov created a concept of historic and aesthetic synthesis of the West and the East.
