Abstract

The dissociation of glycinatocopper(II) ion has been observed by stopped-flow spectrophotometry at 675 nm between pH 1.5 and 2.9 to follow the rate law kobs = k−1+kH[H+] with k−1 = 41±19 s−1 and kH = (7.6±1.1)×103M−1, s−1 at 25°C. The results indicate, Through application of the principle of microscopic reversibility, that the zwitterionic form of glycine cannot be ignored in the kinetics of the complex formation reaction.
