Abstract

Abstract The Kβ emission spectrum of metallic cobalt has been studied, with a Cauchois spectrograph, photographically. Two satellites at 1.6151 and 1.6116 A have been observed for the first time. These have been identified as β 7 and β 6 respectively. The newly observed line β 6 and the earlier reported lines β III and β 5 IV in this spectrum have been assigned to the 1 s −1 2 l −1 −2 l −1 3 p −1 array. Also the earlier reported satellite β II has been assigned to the 1 s −1 3 p −2 −3 p −3 array. Moreover, the earlier reported satellite β 5 I in this spectrum has been associated with the 1s −1 −3d −2 1 S 0 radiative Auger transition. The origin of the satellite β 7 could not be assigned.
