Abstract
UNU Monitor is a quarterly review of the United Nations University's (UNU) current research, publications and forthcoming projects in the area of global environmental change. This issue's Monitor features a report by Haresh C Shah UNU Visiting Scholar and Chairman of the Civil Engineering Department at Stanford University, USA, on the increase in global earthquake risk. The article also includes a report on the United Nations University's recently established Global Network on Natural Disaster Risk Management, and its project on Natural Disasters in Mega-Cities.
