Abstract

UNU Monitor is a quarterly review of the United Nations University's (UNU) current research, publications and forthcoming projects in the area of global environmental change. This issue features an article on the problems of waste management in one of the largest urban conglomerations on the earth, Tokyo, by Ruediger Kuehr. Mr Kuehr is an MA candidate at the Institute of Political Science, Westfaelische-Wilhelms-Universitaet, Muenster, Germany. In 1995, he spent five months at the UNU Centre in Tokyo where he worked on issues related to Japan's environmental policies.
