Abstract

This study aims to analyze the interests and expectation of EFL learners majoring in sports prior to developing ESP General English curriculum. For this purpose, participants are the students of college of sports at C university of Gangwon-do. The participants were 33 in the quantitative research method and 6 in the qualitative one. The data were collected and analyzed with descriptive statistics and in-depth interview. The results are as follows. 1) the recognition of the importance of English learning was high, but the preference for English learning was low. 2) participants underestimated their English ability and perceived their English speaking and writing skills to be weak. 3) English learning was not usually done, and the necessity of English was placed on employment. 4) they had high expectation that English classes would bring employment and improvement of English skills. 5) listening and speaking were requested as content to be covered in English class.
