Abstract

Vancomycin-resistant enterococcus (VRE) is currently a concern of health professionals due to its increasing incidence health care services. The present study describes the first case of VRE identified in Goiânia, Central-West region of Brazil isolated from a male patient, 70 years old, admitted to the hospital with a diagnosis of abdominal aortic aneurysm infrarrenal. Several surgical procedures were performed and use of multiple antibiotics, but after 61 days the patient died. Among the possible causes of death, points to sepsis with culture of wound secretion with isolation and identification of VRE.
