Abstract

Abstract EASTERN STAINLESS Type 321 is a titanium-bearing steel designed to be free from the harmful chromium carbide precipitation (and associated intergranular corrosion) after welding or after an extended period of time in the sensitizing temperature range (800-1600 F). Type 321 is used primarily within this sensitizing (damaging) temperature range; however, its carbon combines preferentially with titanium leaving chromium in solution to maintain full corrosion resistance. Among its applications are high-temperature steam service, chemical plants and heavy-duty aircraft exhaust manifolds. This datasheet provides information on composition, physical properties, hardness, elasticity, and tensile properties as well as fracture toughness, creep, and fatigue. It also includes information on high temperature performance and corrosion resistance as well as forming, heat treating, machining, joining, and surface treatment. Filing Code: SS-396. Producer or source: Eastern Stainless Steel Company.
